Awesome video on this little toy. My friend just recently gave me this toy truck since I built couple 1:1 beetles. I didn’t understand why this truck until he showed me the chassis of which is originally a sand scorcher. My gosh, very similar to a 1:1 beetle. I wasn’t much into RC’s, but I see how rare this truck is by checking the videos here on KZread. Since I do love beetles I may acquire a sand scorcher body on this chassis. I know the truck is rare, but don’t really care since I really love the sand scorcher body more and makes more sense on the chassis. It’s great that you rc people love these little toy car collecting. It’s sad how these things don’t run though. I restored couple beetles, and just restored my FD and have a other jdm project and I can never leave my car in the garage and not drive it. Love to drive my cars and will continue to. I guess the little toy cars are better on the shelf than playing with🤣. To each their own, Awesome toy collection though.

Thank you. I actually am this truck yesterday and it did great. It isn’t that you cannot run them, it is more about the cost to get the kit is so high, and it being 40 years old, you run the risk of damage. This model is easy enough to get parts for other then the body but other cars could break a plastic piece and you could be hunting for years to repair it. I wish I could run them all but realistically the value and parts availability dictates the likelihood. Awesome that you build cars. I have always had a love to restoration work of all types.

Excellent video thanks Keith. I have just restored a rough Rider and agree with you on the rear wheels. They look ridiculous and need some tweaks. I also added rubber bushing to change the bump stop height and it looks so much better. Under normal running I don't really think the springs move at all as the car is so light. It has a crazy amount of stiffness. Looks great on a shelf though😎👍 I guess the Ford isn't much heavier

Great build Keith. I like what you did to give the rear wheels the right stance for this truck. But i wouldn't do it with the cars that in real life are based on a beetle chassis. When you lift a real beetle, the wheels get this kind of stance. As odd looking as it is... It is realistic for VW Beetle-based vehicles.

I’ve been waiting for this.. I just scored what I believe to be a rare Blackfoot. My original Blackfoot I got in 91 from my cousin was an original issue with a baby blue chassis. I remember when my cousin got it, it had the baby blue body probably leftover from the srb I’d assume. Anyway I scored a Blackfoot with the baby blue chassis just like my old one was. Had a few guys tell me it was a brat chassis, had a few tell me it was a bush devil. But I remember my cousin building the original one he gave me, it was a Blackfoot, and so is the one I just scored. Anyway I’m rambling.. I’d love to build an srb, but I want the buggy or the beetle body srb.. agreed Tamiya should reproduce these

Technically, you can buy a 2016 blackfoot and a sand scorcher and slap together a pretty nice version. Those lisencing issues are always hard to say from the outside, might even be some other RC company, has bought exclusive rights to do ford RCs, etc. Kinda like what happened with the Lambo aventador. Obviously I dont know what exactly is wrong, but tamiya hasnt renewed a lot of the US trucks licenses, like the Clodbuster etc. REGARDLESS, sweet kit there my man. Pity you're in the states, othervise I coulda offered to paint up that driver figure for as a test, I'm somewhat decent at that stuff. :)

And built them up but never ran them in anger and I own both the sand scorcher and rough rider kits new in box for my collection. That weird look is scale for a 1960's Baja bug with raised suspension.. It's not an anomaly or something wrong with the design, in terms of scale appearance for e vehicle with swing-arm suspension rear, it is correct. The difference in front to rear ride height is because you dropped the rear suspension in your effort to get the arms to sit parallel to the ground.

So the gear ratio you used is a 4.66 gear. Should be good for torque and a little speed too 😁

Loved the F150 body...., BUT, it should have a double I beam front end and a live rear axle. - They could have modificated the 3 speed Hilux/Bronco chassis for this truck. I borrowed a Tamiya F150 from a friend back in the day and the SRB Chassis never seemed right for this truck. Just my opinion.

Keith, what say you, isn’t a rere wild willy a must? I guess its called wild willy 2 now but should I get one? It is a very classic Tamiya RC 😊

I love the wild Willy. Wouldn’t matter to me which one but my collection wouldn’t be complete without one. I have 3 original. 1 swb that needs a restore. 1 swb mint and 1 Lwb mint. They look great together in the cabinets. If I didn’t have them and my only option was a wild Willy 2 then I would be all over it. No limit with possible detail. I might look to get one in the future for a runner.

@@rcicons4915 ❤️ I hear you 😊 thanks for mentioning the SWB how big of a difference is there? Also I have realized that if possible, I would rather buy a rere than vintage, why you ask well usually the plastic is brittle and the ”glue” on the stickers is gone and the rubber tyres have turned into plastic 😂😂 but if no rere you have to go for vintage nib 😂

@@prophetate the problem with vintage Willy’s is they are expensive. A nib will run about $1,500. Crazy money. The rere is affordable.

Go the low ratio gears mate they are too heavy for the high speed gear
