Tamiya T-34-85 RC Tank Kit Build

Tamiya T-34-85 RC Tank Kit Build
I got surprised at Christmas with this 1/35th scale RC tank. I was not sure what to expect… was it mostly a model or mostly an RC???
Well it is mostly a model that is been made into and RC. I would suggest if you are interested in one of these to put together one of Tamiya’s 1/35th scale tank models first. If you can build one of those then you can build this guy! A much less expensive way to find out by doing a model first!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

    Hi Addam, what a wonderful gift, and proof, wives and mother-in-laws, sounds like a mighty fine family, that have looked after Addam. I know what you mean about having to choose between work and hobby, but unfortunately our hobby doesn’t pay the bills, so unfortunately needs must 🤨. Enjoy the building between the work commitments, that is what I do, I look forward to those time out moments. Take care, keep safe and well. 😉😊😉

    Exactly, RC is my relaxation time and stress relief. My job definitely can wear on you so having an outlet to focus on something and use to decompress is very important, whatever the hobby is! That I why I love the guys over at Operation 11 Charlie using RCs as a way to cope with PTSD for our veterans. I will be doing some more trucks for them this year, I hope to start a couple fairly soon! Take care John and thanks as always!

    Thank's for the presentation Addam. I had the Gepard in the late 80s. It was cable-steered. The tracks moved and the turred turned, no barrel movement. The tracks were the weekpoint. Made out of rubber, eating the batteries just in a few minutes. But a nice scale model, beside the cables coming out at the rear. But now with the 2.4 giga it caught my attention again. Don't know if they're doing the Gepard, but a Leopard or Abrams will do, too.

    @@AddamsPlayground Cool. These Tamiya kits are alright expensive compared to similar tank models from other manufactors. Often they cost twice of a Monogram or Revell model, but you get a great quality for the money. I'll check the prices over hear and what Tamiya takes more for the RC technology compared to the display model. 😉

I always weathered my tanks when they were fully assembled with dry brushing method and a wash and also airbrushing you do need to rotate the turret and move some stuff around like the tracks from time to time to hit everything but it works. can't wait to see the finished product.

    It actually looks about the same size as the little 24th scale SCX24 crawlers, so it could be quite fun to build a little indoor course that is design to drive both over. Anyway looks really fun for indoor use over the winter, so now I want one too :-)

    Yeah about the same length but about half the scale almost. Would be best to run it somewhere with not much more than a sandy or firm dirt as the tracks won't hold up to much abuse. It really is a mobile scale model.

    The problem with the Tamiya tanks is they are so crazy priced! I recently got 2 of the Heng Long tank kits from Motion RC for less than I could have purchased one of the Tamiya kits for! The Heng Long tanks come with smoke and sound and can shoot airsoft BBs as well. They already come with the IR sensors for battle too. Sadly I will never buy a Tamiya tank... this little one was garbage and the big ones are just too much money. Sorry to sound negative in my response, I just really dislike their tanks in general. I do appreciate you stopping by to check it out and for taking the time to comment.

    Yeah, I just think they have them a bit over priced and that is why you don't see tok many of them. It is a $35 model with some electronics and a few additional molded pieces to allow it to move but the cost is more than many of their 1/10th scale car kits. I'm sure they sell but if they were more reasonable I think they would be way more popular. It was a fun kit and it is really cool to see a static model come to life so it was worth it for this one. Not sure if I'll get another though. Thanks for stopping by and checking in!!

    @@WoodsUnknown yeah Vanquish is too pricey for me but maybe once the track is built a tekno buggy or truggy may be a cool option and something different! I tend to lean away from kits where parts are harder to get or may not be supported very long. Although Tamiya parts are not easy to find in stock I am confident they'll be made for a long time. I have thought about doing some more budget friendly cars and trucks on the channel but now it seems when a new one is released they all get flooded coverage by the bigger channels that get them pre-release. Maybe one day I'll be a big deal and will get hooked up with pre-release stuff. Honestly too many kits and companies right now to even try and keep up with!!!

    You can find them from time to time. The tanks from Tamiya are very hit or miss when they get released and how many they release. I will be 100% honest with you, I absolutely do not recommend getting one of these! They are terribly over priced and I never did get it running correctly. In all honesty you but the same static model from Tamiya for like $30 and build and paint it and set it on the shelf to look at. Then take the remaining money and buy the Heng long RC tank that is 1/16th scale with lights, sounds, smoke effects and shoots plastic BBs for around $250 dollars from Motion RC. Get the professional version with the metal tracks and wheels and you will be so much happier with everything.

    That’s an iconic tank. Since you’ve built the model, you can drive one in the game, “T-72 Balkans on Fire”. It’s because of that simulator game that I want to build this! Is there a part 2 yet?

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    I would avoid buying this!! It is entirely way to expensive for what you get. You are getting a $30 tank model and $50 in terrible electronics. Buy the model tank and have fun weathering it and then take the rest of the money and use towards buying a Heng Long tank that will actually drive around! there is a part 2 where I go over the issues I had and how frustrating it all was. It is still not running BTW, it is in a drawer in pieces and may stay that way...
