My dad loved the Centurion, he wasn't to keen on its replacement, the Chieftain, mind you he did his driver training in a Sherman. He also served in Aden, and the Suez crisis. 1st Royal tank regiment 1953 to 1977. Sadly lost him in 2005.

My condolences. My uncle served in Aden, SBS. My dad was in the 7th Hussars, Centurion driver, then commander then TA instructor. He did training in, iirc, Fireflies, Churchills etc too. I think they still used Dingos and Bren Gun Carriers as well. Back then one knew who the enemy was! Unlike nowadays.

I'm really sorry to hear that your father passed away but also my father died too 5 years ago so it would be nice that could be in good company up there. My Italian father was a good story teller regarding history and he was involved with the Italian army and spoke good English. Yep, I miss my father too, both had an interesting life. Hope I didn't bore you...

@Michael Pearce hello, nice to hear that you have been living in Grumolo delle Abadesse years ago. I don't remember this town but I have been many times around that area including Asiago, I had a pretty girlfriend there, and I loved Padua as well. Actually I live 30 km from Florence, not a bad place surrounded by lovely hills full of vineyards! You should come back someday in Italy and see your friends and enjoy trekking and eating at some trattoria drinking some wine. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹 👍
Andy has one of the best jobs in the world y'all, seriously but he's absolutely put in the work and I imagine he's had to make some tough decisions to keep his business afloat, couldn't happen to a nicer man👍
I actually like building up individual tracks. It's repetitive, but relaxing. And what a feeling of accomplishment when they're done.

There is an Ontos model I think with 5 parts per link. That would drive you completely bat crap crazy. Nearly 800 parts for both tracks. Basically upper half lower half 2 pads and the pin.
Can't wait for this one to come out to all of us modelers. I would love to see an M60A1 1:16 scale come out. Haven't seen one as of yet.

Quite a few vehicles deserve the 16th scale treatment I think. The *A34 Comet* for instance, or the *Chieftain MK.5* .

I enthusiastically second this; an M48 or an M60!
Great review, I've been building and collecting the Tamiya 1/16 full option R/C tanks more than 20 years. They're so much fun to build, paint and drive around using the battle system.
How exciting. I hope Tamiya will start producing one pint paint bottles in the near future . This is one of my favorite tanks and look forward to building this kit. Thanks Andy for the great review .
I love your videos Andy! I bought the Tamiya 1/16 scale Tiger II in 2000 and finally built it in 2016. I absolutely enjoyed that build and the Centurion looks like a similar kit. I didn’t have the parts to make it RC but maybe someday.
Wow, what an amazing kit. Thanks for the review.
Great job Handy , this is a fine addition to any 1/16 tank collection
As usual, an informative and entertaining video. Thanks for doing them! I'd love to see a couple of 1/16 Tamiya tanks static or r/c. A Japanese Type 97 Shinhoto Chi-Ha and/or a Brit Matilda.
Just ordered a bunch of kits to carry me through the winter. Mostly 1/700 battleships and carriers, but also a couple of 1/350 German destroyers (Z25 and 44).
That looks amazing! I'm a British armour fan so would love to see it done like that. Also a Sherman fan so a 1:16 Firefly IC Hybrid is the dream
That’s huge! Can’t wait to see the videos on this one. Also anticipating the factory build. Happy days and model on! 😎
Looking forward to this build,Andy!
Looks like a nice winter project.
Cool... we used to operate Centurion tanks with our NZ Army and we have one in a museum.. thanks from NZ 👍🇳🇿
The engineering Tamiya puts into their stuff is extremely impressive. This thing is a masterpiece.

Centurion tanks.. Built at Leyland in Lancashire. A road is named after them leading up to the now defunct factory. Centurion way. There is a full size one on a roundabout junction just outside Preston. Looks superb.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a 1/16 Chieftain Mk5

Ditto. Centurion with the L7 is simply glorious :D
Awesome MBT, even in GW1 it served as a bunker buster, sand didn't affect it whilst Abrams ground to a halt (due to sand ingress)! My dad was a Centurion driver then commander and TA instructor. The Isrealis used them to good effect, iirc, in The Valley of Tears (Yom Kippur War). Their 7th Armoured Brigade - funnily enough my dad served in what was 7th Armoured (Desert Rats) when it had been rolled into the 7th Hussars in the 1950s.
Awesome huge kit Andy
One of the mantlet covers is for a static display only and the one with the bigger openings is for the moving tank.
Oh nice! Looking forward to this build.

And I hope Tamiya does a 1/16 Hetzer at some point. Prefer a Maus, but that's wishful thinking!
WOW, Beautiful!
Awesome kit. I want one and I want one NOW!!!
A damn good model of a damn good tank.
Was just on Andy’s website looking to see if the ship kits are back in stock when a new video drops, awesome!
Classic Tamiya quality. Can’t wait to see the build video, but definitely go Israeli. 😊👍🏻
That is a fantastic model.
A CenturionTank was tested in outback South Australia using an atomic bomb at Maralinga and it withstood the blast , only the paintwork was blasted off, the internals were like brand new. The engine only stopped after it ran out of fuel. Later the same tank served in Vietnam with the Australian army.
Huge box!
Nice kit. For new kits there obvious choices. Is3, t54/55, t72/90, t80 , isu152, chieftain, challenger 2… there is some of them on the market by other vendors or kits. But it would be nice to have them on tamiya lvl
I think Tamyia did again a wonderful RC model regarding the Centurion with very high quality parts. Would love to buy one👍👍👍
Still working on a 1/16 scale King Tiger with full interior (far more difficult than I initially thought), however, I need one of these in my life, eventually!!

Yup, the only downside is where to keep them once they are made.
Hi Andy, A few of us in singapore got the kit from the japanese release. We're building like 3 sho't kals in their dalet and gimel variants. There are sources to get the 1/16 L7 gun for conversion as we do it for the T-55 to tiran. Can't post the links for it here, I can send you the link to get one via other means. We are designing and 3d printing the addon ERA via resin printing.
Looking forward to this build :)
Hi Andy when I was in the army we saw the centurion firing live rounds and the tank rolled back about 3 or 4 feet that was something to see that was back in the 70s in Canada
I don't need it... I don't need it! I NEED IT! But seriously this ones awesome, can't wait to see this one finished!
Look at him go with all these giant projects. Now 2022 is going to be fun for sure :D
Fantastic. It's amazing that the greatest tank ever made has so few model options. Just wish Tamiya would do a 1:35 detailed kit.

I love the metal sprockets, but metal tracks are a must, because of the sound ;-)
Tamiya is famous for its detailed instructions and high-quality, easy to assemble kits. one trivia: the history is in multiple languages but what little I could glean from the Japanese section, it always provides more info than other languages sections

I think I need one of these! Aussie Mark 5 Centurion would be cool, also an M3 Stuart . 👍🏻🇦🇺
I’d like to get my hands on one of these. I enjoyed the Tamils 1:25 Centurion when I was a kid.
Awesome kit! Another great video, as expected. One clarification: it’s called CENTURION, not CENTURIAN.
Awesome I would love a Cromwell tank
The Centurion mbt was in British service for 3 decades. quite a few were deployed to trouble spots around the Empire and were finished in desert camouflage. several deployed to Kuwait when Iraq first started sabre-rattling in 1960 ( at a time UK was withdrawing from Gulf colonies. ) .. Australians used Cent's in Vietnam also. being 1/16 scale there's prob not that many parts or modification kits around so somewhat limited unless scratch-building parts. The Korean War versions look pretty good though. with a bit of weathering etc, the overall green would look fine.
Andy, you need to start that build ASAP. :D
Wow, that Centurion looks so good, and the kit is as you say a bit of a beast! And I'd love to see you do it as an Israeli Centurion, should be good!!
I think either Korean War (which Tamiya appears to have produced judging by the white star) or Suez. Centurions have a wide range of upgrades for each Mark so it may be quite hard to get the detailing quite accurate for a none UK standard mark III.
Such an awesome channel 👍🏻
I would love to see a M-47 1:16 scale come out.
awesome can wait to see it
Being part way through an original 1970's Tamiya 1/16 Leopard 1A4, this 2022 new release is a very interesting contrast.
Awesome!
Amazing
Oh wow, my most favourite tank ever. My wallet is going to hate me... If you want a "different" Centurion just paint it in British desert colours, we used them in every theatre and it was unquestionably the best British tank ever. So good that they named a street in the town where they were built "Centurion Way" after it. 👍

Yes, I would love to get a chance to see Israeli version of this wonderful Centurion tank ......... Love your channel Andy 👍
Great video! Depending on what you want to do with it, it would be the easiest to upgrade into a Sho't (meteor) as it basically is the same version of tank. However they were fitted with 50.cals and a mesh stowage bin on the back of the turret. The afv club shot kal (1967) can be used as inspiration 😁
Oh wow. I wonder if they will release a non motorized version. Love me some 1/16.

While not my cup of tea, I will track your progress with interest. I think my first and last foray into 1/16th is the Das Werk StuG that I'm currently building. Any word on aftermarket schurzen for it?
i hope they do a static display version
It's a brilliant addition to the Tamiya 1/16th stable. Has Tamiya only released it as a bundle that includes the RC unit, or is there a cheaper kit-only package I wonder?
very cool RC tank Andy might have to invest in one of those I have a King tiger in a Sherman
Suggestions,Late Jagdpanther(I know Trumpeter are doing a full interior one).Jagdpanzer,Sturmpanzer,Sturmtiger,SDKFZ250 and the Famo.I know some of these are already around but they're either expensive or r/c all my suggestions are for kits like your upcoming Sherman detail wise or like the Das Werk Stug iii level.
That box is enormous

Depends: for Tamiya's typical fare: yes. For 16th stuff in general: no XD (all of Tamiya's vehicles in this scale have huge boxes with unusually thick card to cope with the weight)
戦後も良く戦った戦車ですが、タミヤさんから35分の1でリニューアルして欲しいアイテムです!!動画👍
looks neat
This is the third kit of the Mk III Tamiya have produce in 1/72, 1/32, and now 1/16 scale, for me, personally, I hope they update the new kit to a RAAC Centurion Mk 5/1 and release it in the near future. I can imagine the aftermarket people will bring out a ton of stuff for this one.
I believe that the version of the Centurion MBT used by the IDF ( Sho't) was equipped with a 105 mm L7 and not the 20 Pounder gun that the Mk III had. Internally it had an American diesel as well.
I've made isralei mk3 on tamiysa 1/25 scale. if you make painting using colours form early 60', you have nothing to change except machine guns from Besa to fn-mag. Later all mk3 was converted to shot, whuiich change maing un to L7 105mm and engine for that one used in M60, so diffrent engine deck.
A nice looking kit, a pity it doesn't come with the L7A1 gun.
Hallo Andy. Love your videos to death. You have a very calm approach, to reviewing your kits. "Know that your business is selling them". How about a Danish MK5 2DK with the British L7A1 105mm rifled gun and laser ranging equipment. Keep your inspiring videos coming. Regards from Denmark. Alex.
The Smoke suppressants in the israeli version are different on the barrel you need fume extractor
@Andy's Hobby Headquarters, I wish I did not live in NC, you would get so tired of seeing me in that store, hahahaha, thanks for all the Vids and Keep it up!
What radio transmitter do you suggest for these Tamiya RC tanks and where can they be purchased. I have multiple 1/16th Tamiya kits to build. My choice for a Tamyia kit would be a British Churchill
I did not see this kit on your website
Pretty cool looking kit, but I'd rather see it built as a British Army unit. Either way, looking forward to the build.

British or Australian would be best IMO. Israeli's been done a lot by now.
Nice Tank Andy, I have one inbound to build on my channel and will be sticking with the original British paint job, as for the IDF Sho't they did for a short while use stock Mk III's but quickly upgraded them in both main gun and drive train, so in theory if you did an IDF tank it would not be a Sho't but just an IDF Centurion MK III from the late 60's. good luck with the build!!

@@AndysHobbyHeadquarters Hey Andy, if you are interested in a machined L7 105mm barrel to do a later Shot' T tank let me know we are doing a small batch on on of the tank forums, also if you have any contacts with Tamiya America it seems the shipment of pre-orders is stuck somewhere.
Why has it got US markings? I wasn't aware that the Centurion was ever in US service. Also, I suppose the gun mantlet cover with the elongated holes will be for the RC version for gun elevation, and the normal round holes will be for the static model.
It would be really cool if Tamiya would come out with a 1/16 challenger 2
It would need to be an early IDF Centurion before they changed out the gun and engine for a 105mm and diesel respectively. Maybe try an Aussie Centurion in Vietnam. Had a 20 PDR gun instead of the 17 PDR in this kit, but would be an interesting build.
Do you know if there will be a non-RC kit version available?
Where can I find the videos of your actual build of the Centurion?
Wooo tht huge

Just in case my original reply reappears... AFV Club issued a centurion Mark 1 in 1/35 back in 2020, a few months after releasing a Mark III.
Next model from Tamiya should be a M109 Palidan 155mm howitzer. Iconic. Long history.
Like the metal chassis, but not so excited about the resin tracks. Metal (zinc or steel) gearbox and running gear? Also does the turret traverse 360 Degrees / 6400 mils?

I had the same thought after building my first 1/16 kit. BNAmodelworld sells an SOL 1/16 M4A3E8 Sherman shipping from Australia. It is a resin kit, that being said the armor texture and amount of detail looks fantastic (I haven't started assembling yet though). Comes with a full sheet of photoetch including stencils.
Thank you for sharing, I hope you do the Israel Version!
