Tamiya Blitzer Beetle LiPo vs NiMh Speed Test & Team Corally 2S LiPo Review

    Hello mate. Well it's a momentous day indeed and I've got a fair few comments. Firstly that break on the Blitzer was what happened nearly every time I took it out. I think that using the metal hexes helps as it puts the strain on the thicker bit of drive shaft. On the battery front, for Tamiyas get hold of that Gartpot one I reviewed as it will fit in everything. The voltage goes from about 3.2v per cell to 4.2v per cell during the charge. I always do a balance charge and when I've finished running the car I put it into storage voltage which is about 3.8v per cell. I would only charge it back to full if I was going out to run the car the next day. If you leave them charged all the time they won't last long and puff up which means they are knackered. Obviously fire safety is a must. Always use the lipo bag and or metal box and have a smoke detector above and don't go out till it's done! I'm sure you are very careful after my experience. Presumably you've got a decent balance charger. I've found that the ammo boxes are good for storing these. Just make sure there is a vent because if it's totally sealed and the battery goes up then it becomes a bomb! Anyway great video mate. Nice to see you getting free stuff. Hope the school holidays are going well. I'm a bit behind with getting a video done this week. Should get a chance to do some editing tomorrow. Have a good evening matey 😁🍺🍺🍺

    Hi Pete, thanks for the great comment, I knew you would have some interesting and helpful words. Well, it was free, so what can I say? They also sent a basic balance charger, review to come. They were gonna send a battery with the same shape as the NiMh, but were out of stock - hope to get one soon. Yeah, I'm being really cautious, charging and storing in the greenhouse! Good tip with the vent in the metal box, I'll make sure I have one. Funny I never broke an axle before, until running on LiPo - could be to do with the extra speed and punch. Hope to see that new video of yours soon - have a cracking weekend mate! :-)

    @@MarkBryanRC I charge all of mine in the hole of a Cinder Block, with a Cinder Block under it, and a Ceramic Tile as a "Door". Learned that from my Friend Josh - Harley Designs. Very safe - safer than ANY Lipo Bag... And in many cases, cheaper too! 😉 I also use a quality Balance Charger. That's the only thing you NEVER want to skimp on!

    Hey, Mark! First of all congratulations, all my congratulations for becoming an ambassador/tester for the EuroRC store. And welcome to the world of Lipos! As you may have already noticed I banned the Nimh and the brushed motors very quickly, and finally I am very satisfied with it. I use the Lipos Gens Ace which gives me power with an ideal playing time nearly 30 minutes. As you clearly demonstrated in your video, Tamiya does not make it easy when it comes to including lipos in its chassis. I had to plan my DT-02 chassis to get it to accept a right-paved Lipo. In any case, I will continue to use those Lipos. Some manufacturers have well understood the interest of coming out of rounded models with an almost standard size Nimh. Thank you my friend for this video, I took as usual a lot of fun to watch it! Thanks to your son Alf and the cyclopedic Rob. Best wishes to you, mon ami. 👍🏽🍻

    Merci beaucoup, Alex! (I hope I spelt that correctly, it's 40+ years since French lessons at high school!) Yes, it was nice of EuroRC.com to offer me products to test - they also sent me a balance charger for this LiPo! I see the problems you encounter with Tamiya and LiPo, but it is not too hard to overcome those issues. The longer run times will be the biggest bonus in my opinion. I'm really happy that you enjoyed the video, I try and keep it a little fun, and not too serious. It is a hobby after all. I am very proud of Alf's filming abilities, he is getting to be an expert! Thanks again, and always best wishes to you too, mon ami. 👍

Welcome to the new millennium :-) Now you just need to switch out that wibbly wobbly and we don't know what channel we have tuned in on :-) Jokes aside, a great review. Loved the run and the test fitting at the end. And good thing it was just that upright/wheel axle that broke - and not the chassis or body. Uhh, it was fast. Maybe a bit too fast. Well I am not all about the power but I do like the run time. Another thing I like about my lipos and all lipos is that it basically runs at full power until it hits the low voltage. As apposed to the NIMH which lowers in power as you use it. Now when I am using a 2s lipo in my crawlers? I can go for 2 hours. Which is awesome.. Remember "Scale Driving" But I think you will be happy with it. Now that I've got experience with them, I can't go back! 😉 As far as fitment in M Chassis Cars, "Soft Pack" Lipos from Floureon and Goldberg, and a couple of other manufacturers fit a treat - BUT most of them have the Wires coming out of the side... Necessitating the modification of one Batry holder side, like I did on my M05.... (As an aside, M05 Ver. II, M07 and M08 are fully Lipo capable) SNAPPED an Axle!!?? 😧😖😲 Well..... That has me a little worried about 3S in my M05! However I do have HARDENED Steel Yeah Racing CVDs. Hopefully they will handle it. I recently found out on the TamiyaClub Forums that, if I get just the A Parts Tree from the M05 Ver. 2, it's a direct swap, and has the larger rectangle opening, to fit most any Lipos!! 👍👍 For $14.00, I might do that. As long as I can cram a smaller 3S Lipo in this, I guess I'm not in a hurry... BTW if you want to try a crazy speed run (since I can't without that device), the same 3S Lipo fits easily in the DT-02! I've run it in my 'Oliday Buggy, and it was MAD!!! 😁 I too hope this madness stops soon! Getting any RC Parts, even when I can afford them, is a real PAIN. 😡😠 Starting to feel rested... Hope you're doing well. 😊

    Hi, Mark, it was a shame about the break, but it does emphasis that Tamiya chassis are not designed to hit nearly 30mph and come out unscathed. Plus given time your gearbox would get shredded. Another problem a Tamiya collector would have in switching to lipo, would be having to switch all the battery connectors on every vehicle. I may be wrong but it looked like a Deans plug on the lipo which obviously is incompatible with the tamiya esc. Alternatively you could always buy a Tamiya / Deans connector. It's certainly an intriguing concept, but I'm just too old skool to start using lipo's - I can barely control these things at 15mph. Great angle though - lipos in a Tamiya. Hope you get the Blitzer fixed soon, and a great catch by Alf in tracking that disembodied wheel, almost comedic, like something off the A Team, after a smash. Have a great weekend...😀.

  • @MarkBryanRC

    @MarkBryanRC

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi mate! Yeah, couldn't believe it when the axle snapped - thanks for noticing how great Alf was at catching the wheel on camera - atta boy! At least we had fun on this shoot. Agreed, making Tamiyas go too fast ain't a great idea in the long run. I get loads of comments moaning about how slow my cars are - but not the slightest bothered - I run my cars more than most, I think, and I prefer them to work the next time I take them out. As you say, more power puts more strain on the components, especially the drivetrain, and those bits ain't cheap! Yeah, I got a converter lead for the deans plug. So I'll be keeping my NiMh's for most of my everyday fun runs. The LiPo will be good to give a stock car like my XV01 a little more pep now and then! Cheers for the thoughtful comment, wishing you a lovely weekend too. :)

    Hello! Very interesting video! Since I recently also got 2 LiPo Batteries (also 7.4V 2S, very similar spec) and I'm thinking about connecting it to my newly customized Audi Quattro tt02 (yes, I tried your suggestion, customized my rear upright successfully and raised my ride height evenly front and back!!). However, I'm also thinking about getting a new rally chassis like XV-01 and install my battery there. Just a quick question, is that voltage sensor a must-have for safety? Also, does XV-01 require longer wires than tt02 to connect?

  • @MarkBryanRC

    @MarkBryanRC

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Eric! Glad to hear you got the TT02 ride height sorted out! You only need the voltage sensor / buzzer if your ESC does not have a LiPo cutoff (I use the TBLE02s and it does not have a cut-off) so I need the buzzer to tell me when the LiPo is running low (below 3.2v per cell). If you run a cell below 3v, the LiPo could be damaged and dangerous. In my XV01, the battery connector from the ESC actually reaches the inside of the battery tray, so no, the battery wires don't need to be longer. Best regards from Mark... :)

    Verry nice. Guess you should stock up on some spare axles there. I can confirm what others wrote: charge to 4.20 per cell, thats 8.40 for the pack. never discharge below 3.2. Also do not exceed the specced charging current. Some packs it is 2C and some it is 3C, but make sure to not charge with more. On a 4000mAh pack that would be 8A. The Manta Rey (ta-01), ta-02, cc01, dt-01 and df03 are the most problematic i found, the M-03, M-04 and M-05 have profile problems. I think the new M chassis are better and the M-06 is better as well with fitting lipos. And The M-05ver2 has a square battery slot. Of course, Rough Rider and Sand Scorcher doesnt fit at all since they cant eaven take 6 cell packs, need hump packs. The magic length is 134mm. So if its rounded correctly and shorter than 135 its ok, but need to watch out for the cables. Sometimes opening up a cable hole works nicely. Blitzer Beetle and TT-01(E) can be modified with dremel tool to fit square packs as well.
