Is The Kyosho Fazer FZ02 a TT02 Killer? Tamiya TT02 Modified Speed Test and Comparison

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Is the new Kyosho Fazer Mk2 FZ02-R really a Tamiya TT-02 killer? In this video we take a look at my lightly modified TT02 Subaru Impreza's and discuss the pros and cons of this very popular RC kit compared to the new Fazer RTR rally car. Many thanks to Fil ‪@poorboysrc‬ for allowing me to include footage from his recent video of the Mk2 Fazer, see the full (most excellent) video here: • Kyosho Fazer Mk2 FZ02-...
On the face of it, both chassis are very similar and although the TT02 is a lower specification, it can be easily modified to a similar spec for a price that is comparable to the Kyosho. So here we go, the first of a series of challenges that pit these 2 awesome rally cars against each other - time for a speed challenge!!!
Many thanks as ever to my good pal, Rob ‪@robbrennanrc‬ for his camerawork and help with the making of this video. Cheers!

Now that's the kind of challenge I can sink my teeth into! But Mark, it looks like your rally drivers were at the pub before the test drive! Are you sure they can manage this high level of competition? 😆 It almost seems like the Tamiya kit just isn't up to the high spec the Kyosho is... Perhaps the drivers are nervous knowing they're walking into the lion's den? Ah, enough blabbering, it's GO-TIME!!! 😜🙌

Oh YEAH Fil my good man! Haha but yeah, you got that right, I told those bloody drivers to keep off the Vodka!!! 😅💯 Next time they'll be on the wagon and told under the strictest orders not to hit the drink! Your Kyosho doesn't have any drivers so I look forward to see how that goes for ya!!! 😅 But seriously, with a new servo you better watch out for next time, definitely GAME ON!!!! 😎🔥👍

IMO a large part of what "makes" the TT-02(or any of Tamiya's kits) is that its a dirt cheap kit that can be hopped up which calls back to what we are all trying to emulate: car culture. I'm not out there racing(nothing going on in my area) so a large part of the fun I have with RC cars is maintaining and upgrading; something that Tamiya kits give me in droves.

At least bearings, full alu steering, alu prop joints and cva's. So 80 in mods. If you must, invest in a type r or type s. The full tupperware bulk kit is all over the road for hobbist racing. Not really suitable.

I used to run Tamiyas but no longer have the time or supplies to build. I run Kyoshos now and they are well worth the extra cost, quality is just higher. My FZ02-R got around 30mph stock, now has a 5400kv brushless and reaches around 50mph before I run out of room/bail. Add some upgrades and the Kyosho is a real contender.

For pure performance, the Kyosho is better out of the box. The Kyosho also has the benefit of coming with sealed diffs, significantly more ground clearance, and has provisions for sway bars.

He he, that's a bit of friendly rivalry we like to see, Mark, and I see Fil is up for it, of course he is! I think both look really nice on the bodies and scale detail, I think maybe the Fazer II chassis might be a bit higher end, but haven't seen one in person yet... But you did have some issues on that speed test, it wasn't straight as in the actual speedurn contest, there I remember it was Fil who was wavering all over the place... And yes, I do remember I also struggled to drive straight once the speed started to rise, he he... All good fun, I am looking forward to see the next installments in this... And we have another challenge, Peter CW-01 Creations' DT-02 challenge, I need to get onto that one, except I just got a good layer of blooming snow here again, he he...

Hi the Mads! Oh yes I'm sure Fil is up for a little Fazer Fun! Agreed, they are both very fine rally cars but I also think the Fazer is a little better specified. Haha, the speed run was more of a slalom wasn't it?!?!?! 😅 But at least I know from last year's speed challenge that a TT02 CAN got straight! I saw Peter Smith's new challenge and will give it a go. Don't worry, there is plenty of time my friend. Hope your Sunday is a good one!

Hey great stuff to kick off Friday evening mate. I think the main factor of which one you go for is whether or not you enjoy the build process and painting up the body. You do get an excellent result if you are Mark Bryan and I did a half decent job of a Tamiya Subaru myself but that was when it was lockdown and I had loads of spare time. If you really don't get on with that kind of thing or haven't got much spare time then it's great that you can just get the Kyosho out of the box, put in a battery and go. I think that the Kyosho chassis is the same as I had on my Mad Van and if so I think that the chassis tub itself is much more bendy than the Tamiya tub. Other than that it is fairly similar. Great to have this collab with Fil. Let's see what he responds with. Hope your weekend has got off to a good start. Have a good one mate 😁👍👍

Hello there young man! Always a pleasure, Pete! Oh yes well said, it's definitely horses for courses with these two, best of both worlds if you ask me. For avid builders and tinkerers like me the Tamiya is very rewarding to build. But if you just want to plug and play the Kyosho ticks all the boxes. Yeah the chassis are very similar but I think the Kyosho has it in terms of suspension setup. It's just a bit of fun and banter between us and Fil TBH!!! I reckon the Fazer will top 30 so I'll have to go out again and try to drive in a straight line! 😂 Same to you mate, have a smashing weekend. Cheers! 🍻😎👍

I’m sure this will have been said somewhere already but the xv-01 is only £230 that leaves £45 for radio and servo to match the price. Also I know it’s rally ready but you did a great job on the TT02s for rally and even with what you need extra it’ll be cheaper and steering superior.

In germany the fazer cost around 300 euros. Tt02 R cost circa 119, add a lexan, paint, brushed system, lipo and charger and u go for a 230 circa. U can also find the tt02 audi kit with ball bearing and brushless system for 139 euro. U can go cheap and get a tt01e subaru for 76 or a tt02 base kit with nothing except thr chassis for 54 euro and build something from that, and u will still be under 300. Said that, the plastic quality of the kyosho is far superior, but in this moment one of the best hybrid onroad/rally 1 10 is the hpi sr4 kit or the xv01 tamiya.

The Kyosho Fazer comes full build up what I know? I don't know but in my opionion it makes fun to build up a car, you can give the car your own special paint Technicaly I would say the Kyosho is a modern chassis and speed is not so important. It makes more fun to drive a track instead strait forward for the run of max speed. But everybody can do what he/she/it want.

Great driving with that faulty servo Mark, just how did you manage to miss all of those Kerbs mate?! Hmmm, speed wise, I think Fil will nudge slightly ahead, to start with anyway ..... my Fazer clocks 27mph on 2s. I love all the upgrades that you have done to your TTO2, it certainly looks substantially better than a stock one! The TTO2 and the Fazer are soooo similar in design, makes me wonder who copied who? But the quality of the Fazer plastics and dampers are a lot better. Both have sloppy suspension and non adjustable steering in stock form, and both suffer horrendous torque steer, and both have awful flappy plastic prop shafts! As for the bodies, I think the level of detail is pretty similar..... but the lexan is definitely thicker on the Kyosho, and substantially tougher (which is great when you drive into Kurbs as much as I do! 😂) The TTO2s gearboxs are a lot quieter, and do seem to be very robust..... the Fazer mk2 is such a loud car! Car for car, I would pick the Fazer any day. But, the TTO2 shines with the fact that it is a kit..... and you get to enjoy the whole build process, and you can't put a price on that. I'm not a fan of ready to run, the build is half the fun! This is a great challenge, two of my favourite channels with many miles between them battling it out for the glory! Add a Robonthecamera and a sloppy beaver and we have some awesome content! 😂 Backing a winner is not easy..... To be honest, there really isn't a huge amount in it. The Fazer is a better base car no doubt, but I believe with the Mark Bryan knowledge, experience and wisdom within the hobby you may well be able to come out on top my friend! Love that cockpit by the way..... no Wallice and Grommit business going on here, take note Green Hawks, this is how the professionals do it! 😂 Looking forward to seeing this one unfold guys! 😊 👍 👍 👍

Hi James! Yeah I had to fight with this TT02 and did glance those curbs a couple of times! Not only was the servo shot but the torque steer was unbelievable! I reckon I could hit 27 with the stock gearing so I might give it another go! I thank you for your input as I don't have a Fazer and you know what you're talking about! Seems they are a lot more similar than people think!!! With a few tweaks and a few quid spent, the TT02 can be made to run very nicely but in stock form it's a bit of a pig, as you know!!! We'll see what happens mate. But at the end of the day it's just a bit of fun! Say hello to Grommit for me! Cheers! 😎👊👍

@@MarkBryanRC 😂 Grommit says hi to you and Barbara's beaver! Yes matey, very similar indeed I would say performance wise..... although the quality of the plastics, stock dampers, and rather nippy 550 14T motor make the Kyosho excel from the initial unboxing. Like you say the TTO2 can be really turned around, and with so many aftermarket hop ups available I think ' that' is half the attraction of this chassis for many people. It's one of those cars where you really can notice the improvement with each modification that you make, and that's fun! Personally, I haven't driven one again since last years speed challenge..... That noise of warping plastic prop shafts rotating at hyperspeed, tires ballooning and rubbing on wheel arches, lexan scraping violently on tarmac followed by a big bang still haunt me to this day! 😂 😅 🤣 A prime example of what happens when you beef up the power in one without doing the necessary upgrades!! With an alloy prop shaft, contact foams, adjustable track rods etc etc our runs may have been a little better..... possibly? 🤔 🙄 So anyway bud, good luck with that 27mph.....and do remember that mine is the road version, Fils is the rally one, which might potentially be a fraction slower perhaps? Have a great weekend my friend. 😊 👍 👍 👍

Exactly, mate! The lure of Tamiya is in the tinkering and tweaking! Haha don't blame you for giving the TT02 a wide berth after last year's shenanigans! I have had other folk say their FZ02 will break 30 in stock form... I may be on a losing streak here! Hope your week has started well, James! 🤞😁🍻👊👍

Hi there, it's an Absima Thrust Eco 15T motor. The TT02D is better value because of the oil shocks, bearings and sport tuned motor! 😎👍

The Kyosho is more comparable to the XV-01 or XV-02 (I preferer the -01 driving dynamics and performance). In order to bring the TT-02 close to the performance of the FZ01 you would need to invest "mucho dinero" and still not quite get there in performance. They are both very nice looking though.

  • @MarkBryanRC

    @MarkBryanRC

Hi there! I think you are right and I also prefer the driving dynamics of the XV01. I don't have the FZ02 to be able to directly compare it but yes, big bucks need to be thrown at the TT02 to get it to even drive nicely, that's for sure! 🤔👍

arg seeing the lightbuckets on the subaru makes me a little crossed the supra body from the BT-01 only has front buckets and the only 3rd party rear light buckets i've found are both unobtainium and 30-60 bucks which.....hahaha yea no even if it's in stock that's just way to much maybe if it came pre-painted and LED'd up maybe. and i did get my TT-02 to have damn near 0 play at the front, all it took was 3rd party metal lower arms and metal cups and tamiya adjustable upper arms and a tamiya alloy steering upgrade kit so....about 125 bucks >. .> but since the arm's are similar i'm thinking most of the play might be comming from the upper and lower arm's mainly the plastic/metal lower friction ball's tend to move around in the arm quite a bit so metal lower arm's with a metal suspention ball pre-mounted in there would be the best value to end result play killer (though they do limit the ride height compared to the plastic ones but still have my front at 26mm)

  • @MarkBryanRC

Oh no that's a shame about the Supra body! Too much money for those rear buckets! Good job on the zero play TT02 front but it does sound like a lot of work and cash to get it done! Thanks for sharing your info about the suspension mods, very useful my friend! 😎👊👍
