Radio Control Car Reviews, Builds, Runs and Tips!
I've been into Tamiya RC cars for over 30 years now and have always loved every part of owning one - from the first unboxing to the last run. I enjoy building, upgrading and tinkering with them as much as racing them, trying little changes and mods to get the best out of them.
On this channel I want to try to pass on the ideas that have improved the cars. Most mods will be changes you can make and do yourself with easy to buy materials but will definitely make your cars drive better. Hopefully you'll enjoy the running and crashing videos too!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: THIS CHANNEL IS NOT MADE FOR KIDS
The main topic of this channel is the building and running of Tamiya Radio Controlled Cars. These cars are NOT toys.
Every Tamiya Kit and RC Car is designated by the manufacturer as only suitable for persons aged 14+. Building and running any of these RC's is not suitable for anyone under 14. RC cars can be dangerous!

Goddag Mark! So happy to see you two still going strong and enjoying life and the RC World! Good attempt. Yeah, there must be a bottle-neck somewhere. Perhaps the motor yes. But 60 is wild on a brushed 14T. Think it’s about the same speed as my DT-02 with an 8T brushless. Would love to see how you changed that DT-02 if I find some time to go back in your videos. Looks very special. Well, best to you my mate. Hope the summer has been good to you. ❤

Goddag Mikael! It's so good to hear from you, I have been wondering how you are and what you are up to these days, my good friend. Ah yes, the trials of running a speed car, it's crazy trying to work out how to go faster, logic doesn't always work it seems. I know I can get this car to go a little faster though! Life here has been very tricky lately, still lots of health and family issues but we keep on smiling! I hope all is good with you and your lovely family. Take care mate! 😎🩵👊👍

Great video. I have a QD Tamiya and a TA-01 (all rebuild and working). It is time to buy a modern kit. Does the TT-02r fix the wobbling issues of the TT-02? Is the tt-02r a better option from the tt-01e? I am gonna drive it only on flat cement tracks.

Many thanks! Yes the TT02R will reduce some of the wobbly bits! But take a look at the TT02 Type S. The suspension and steering on that is awesome, plus it's a lot cheaper than the type R.

Oh no, hit the limits what it will do. I wonder if the HW ESC is restricting the amperage to the motor? Maybe a higher amp ESC may give it the kick in the pants it needs to wind out. Best of luck with it Mark, I know that was a bit deflating but I am sure you will get it sorted and bust past that 40MPH wall! Take care and have a great week!

Sorry, it didn't turn out as planned. Bigger wheels should add more speed at one turn of the wheel, but they also need more torque from the motor and add roll resistance at the same time. Maybe a 21T motor or higher might improve the missing force. One question: runs the car more stable now? Beside that, the car looks really cool. Have a great Sunday Mark.

  • @MarkBryanRC

Not seen that rear shock mod before, I’ll have to have a look at that, thanks. Mine is modded for beach use, so I actually use the bushings on the wheels are they seem to last more than one trip. I use a small plastic food tub to seal in the rx and silicon sealant where the wires come through. An old mtroniks esc is pretty bullet (and water) proof. For the motor I’ve always used the sport tuned which I think is 23T, I tend to run out of skill with anything faster. Right, I’m off to rummage through the spares box.

Thanks for the interesting comment, and yes the shock mod really works well. Good point about the bushings for use on salty sand, definitely a wise choice! I agree, the sport tuned is a good match for this chassis. Plenty powerful enough. Sounds like we have similar spares boxes! Cheers!

Hey Mark.. I've finally gotten myself an 037 TA02S.! I've been after one for ages.. It's a fully completed but never ran shelf queen, I paid £120 for it.!! 👍 👍 👍 My only problem with it is the colour, it's metallic blue.!! It looks great.. But.! It really needs to be done in the Martini livery.! I'm planning on repainting it & get getting the correct decals. I don't know how old it is, I hope the plastics haven't gone brittle. I'd like to fit a mild 2S brushless system in it... Do you think it'll hold up.? I've been REALLY surprised by how durable Tamiya RCs actually are.!! Do you have any TA02 tips.? Also, am I right in thinking that I can make the wheelbase a standard 257mm by fitting rear arms from a TL01.?? Cheers mate.!! Stay safe out there & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍

Hi there Alan and welcome to the 037 club! Nice to hear from you! Sounds like you got a great deal, good luck with the re-painting. My original 1997 chassis is still going strong and no problem with the plastics. A very mild brushless setup would be fine but don't go too mad with it! The only weak spots I've found are the motor plate (it's a plastic bracket) breaks easily, I have an alloy replacement in mine and beware the stock alloy pinion wears out in no time. If you are gonna run it I'd relace the bushings with bearings if they are not already. I think the only way to make it 257mm is to fit the longer bathtub. Have fun with it my friend - take care! 😎👊👌👍

@@MarkBryanRC Thanks Mark, as ever, you're a font of information.!! 👍 👍 Would you recommend sanding it back to repaint it or removing the paint with chemicals.? I've seen people removing paint like that but it looks like a right old faff... I've heard others saying that they hold up well.!!

Thanks mate! I would definitely just sand it down until it's nice and smooth, don't worry about removing all the paint. Then cover it with Tamiya white Fine Surface Primer and sand that with very fine wet and dry. Add top coat and voila! 😎👊👍

@@MarkBryanRC Thanks Mark, that's exactly what I'm going to do.! Fortunately the seller included the Martini livery decals with it, so that's £20 saved.!! 👍 It just arrived this afternoon.. The first thing I wanted to know was it's age, I've heard horror stories about old RCs.. It's got 2017 stamped on it so I'm super happy with that.!! True to the listing it hasn't got a single mark on it & has obviously never been ran, the servo wasn't centred & the motor was reversed. The body generally looks alright, it's got the odd imperfection & run in the paint but you've got to look closely. I was also delighted to find that it's got nice rubber shielded bearings throughout & a decent Absima Thrust B-spec modified 12t motor. So after an hour or so going over it to check for grease, making sure everything is where it should be & all tight, then gluing the tyres, I put a 2S lipo in & gave it its maiden drive.! I wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting... I certainly wasn't expecting it to be this good.! In fact "good" doesn't cover it Mark... REALLY BLOODY IMPRESSIVE is more like it.!!! It's soooooo smooth, the suspension is an absolute delight.!! It's high ride height with soft springs makes it squat, lean, dive & glide over bumps just like the rally car it's supposed to be.!! It's got grip when you want it & oversteer or understeer when you want that.!! It's extremely nimble, it's super planted & it showed absolutely no sign of rolling over even on warm dry tarmac.!! And even with just a 2S brushed system (it's got a cheap Chinese knock off Hobbywing 1060 in it... For now) 😉 it's got some poke about it.!!! I'd say it's topping out around 22/23 mph ish.. I've got a mild brushless system to fit in it, but I also have a 2S brushed ESC & motor out of an Arrma Infraction mega, it's a big 570, 9t motor... I'm going to fit that first just to see what it's like.. If it can propel the Infraction mega up to 30 mph then it should be decent in something much lighter.!! I'm absolutely made up that I finally got an 037 & I'm especially over the moon that I only paid £120 for it.! I think I'm starting to get the hang of this Ebay thing.! 😉 😉 😂 😂 Once again Mark.. THANK YOU for giving me the Tamiya bug.!!! I've been thoroughly impressed with each model I've gotten so far.!! Tamiya cars are just so unlike any others... They seem to really put a lot of work into designing their chassis to do a certain job & to emulate the characteristics of the real car they're based on.. I have an M06, an M05, a TT-01E & now the fantastic TA02S... What to choose next.?? 😉 An XV-01 is definitely one I have my eye on.!! I'm referring back to this video because Poor Boys RC channel has just announced this years speed run chassis, amd i famcy joining in with my mf01x. I'm sure my beetle rally goes faster than that. 🤔 I've got the hobbywing 1060 esc and a large sized hard pack 2s 7.4v 5200mah 50c battery in it.

Hi there and cheers for tuning in! Oh yes, the Poor Boys Speed Challenge, I need to get this thing going faster than it did in this video! Great to know you are on-board! Yeah my car is slow, maybe that ESC and bigger battery is needed! Good luck! 😎👊🤞👍

@@MarkBryanRC I've ordered oil shocks, a high speed gear set and a couple of larger steel pinions. I think I'll stick with a brushed set up. The brushless stuff can cost a fair bit of money. I love your channel. You and Rob are a right pair of characters. 👍🤣

@@the.just.able.biker67 Sounds like you have the right stuff to add for more speed, I didn't know you could get a high speed gear set! Yeah, a brushless setup is more expensive for sure. I'll be in the brushed brigade with you. So nice to hear that you enjoy the channel and our antics! Cheers! 😁🙏👊👍
