All the Tama SLP snares are a very good value. I just ordered an SLP G Bubinga from Musicians Friend during the Labor Day sale. With a 15% discount I paid $297 out the door. They’re back ordered until next week so I should have it in a week or 2.

This drum sounds better whether tuned low or high than similar ones that cost a lot more. I've compared it to the Ludwig Legacy Mahogany and the Gretsch Swamp Dog and they're great but for the money, the Tama is a better value.

I have the same snare. Sounds amazing and cuts through nicely. Tune up high and still has a nice low end. Doesn’t sound thin when tuned high.

It does. And for a modestly priced snare it punches well above its weight .

Just got this snare as a step up from the snare my kit came with. I play in a metal/hard rock band and I searched for a fat and punchy metal snare that kinda fit into the look of my kit. Had to be affordable tho, so this guy was the obvious choice. And now I don't play the nicest kit and so my old snare ain't that nice either, so I'm absolutely impressed by the quality of the hardware, completely flawless. Stunning looking and soundwise you got tons of options and I feel it works well with pretty much every tuning. Rimshots with a lower tuning are the best tho. Absolutely stoked to bring this beast to band rehearsal and into the studio soon. Finally got the low smacking punchy fat snare sound I been trying to get out of my old snare, but there's only so much tuning and heads can do when the shell is real cheap.

I've had this snare for about 3 years I loved it then and still love it today I rock it with a 42 strand wires as well though in the last year however I changed out the flange hoops for die cast ones, never changed it back to flanged

I found that putting die cast hoops on this drum choked it just enough which goes against the design of the drum but the focus deeper crack I got off it with rimshots using the cast hoops is what I was aiming for I also put a remo controlled sound clear for the batter and got that 80's thrash metal sound so a real killer drum to mess around with!

Heavy Drums Inc I’m getting the longer MSL36 lugs for mine. I already have the diecast hoops and it’s considerably better. I simply prefer diecasts due to the tuning retention and more focused sound. This is how Tama should have built the snare. The shorter lugs with the flanged hoops are counterintuitive when tuning up in the medium range over longer periods. Retuning every 10 minutes isn’t always an option.

Hi, I am very undecided between the Tama DST1465 and this LST148 ... but the biggest doubt is that maybe I would use the 14x8 just to make recordings ... it is much less practical to carry around for live! Let's say that at the sound level, I like the SLP with any tuning, as it leaves the factory, while the soundworks I think it takes longer to adjust the sound according to your taste. Someone told me that the SLP loses the tuning, more frequently than the soundworks, is it possible? Thanks and sorry for my english 😊

I'm considering getting this snaredrum but i'm still not sure if thats the right one for me because of the depth.. I need something that cuts through a lot of noise.. especially for fast blast beats i'm not sure if this one is articulate enough or if something like a 14 or 13 x 6,5 would be the better choice for this kind of stuff.. i want it to be articulate but still punchy and rich in sound at relatively high tunings

I play thrash type melodeath type stuff mostly. I do some blast beats and I know what you mean. But this one being thinish steel does penetrate nicely. Have a look a the mapex machete too, from what you say that might fit you slightly better. The machete is wicked

@@heavydrumsinc4816 well i had the machete in mind already a couple of times.. but its a bit pricy in comparisson to other steel snare drums out there.. for the price a machete is on the market right now, i would probably go for a brass snare instead.. I'm seriusly struggling with that since months :D Thanks a lot for your answer anyway^^

Blast Beast Try the new 14” X 6” SLP G Maple for a snare that cuts better without being too wild up top. Put some diecasts on it and it will have all the controlled cut with a full bodied warmth you’ll need to cut through a wall of guitars and a growling vocalist. You could also try the G-Bubinga for a bit more cut and less full bodied warmth. But act quick since that snare is discontinued for 2019. They can be had for $300 to $400 if you look on eBay and Reverb.

Yeah I dont actually have it anymore. But I used it for gigs for 6 months. It does crank up very nicely like a 6.5. But also sits very nicely in the middle range. I would recommend upgrading the hoops for diecast if you can. The ones that come on it started to bend from all the abuse even within 6 months. But for the money its sn excellent loud steel drum. Actually miss it, the sound quality is beyond the cheaper price.
