Eileen Aldis every single time I arrive in a new country in Europe 😂 the common issue of not having a sim for each country. Always the first task after arrival at the Airbnb is to get a phone sim! Loving the vlogs :) Riga is so beautiful! Central market food court area has amazing food you must try! Also check out Latvian academy of science observation deck for amazing views of the city :)

Heck, it happens all the time with Uber in California! I come into San Francisco (or Sacramento, or...fill in the blank) and you don't know which side of the station to stand on because there are no signs.

Many times as England seems to thrive on taxis not turning up. My daughter had a penpal in Riga in the mid 1980s-the family were financially well off but due to the Soviets they had very few luxury items. My daughter used to send her pop magazines, pens and notebooks and English sweets. Now I think Riga is fairly well off and the people are happy to have got rid of the Soviets.

I went from Riga to Tallinn,,so cool. Yes I took those buses! Comfortable luxury buses!

Well that was a lot of fun from the luxury bus (never seen anything like that before!) to your comfortable AirBnB, grocery shopping, old city and milk bar restaurant. Most fun though was the mix up with the taxi driver and call to Canada. Glad that worked out. Such a lovely introduction to Latvia. Can't wait to see more.

Another Latvia video on the way! Yeah, it was nice to pick up some morning essentials and get our first glimpse of Riga. A night that ends with a hot chocolate can't be bad either hehe ;)

Taxi driver is a winner of this video - despite his modest means he did call. Because he cares.

This seems to be such a charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job!

My guess is the both of you laugh so much together & it makes for a healthy relationship. Cheers to you! 🍷

Ok, The bus from Tallinn to Riga did look like it would have been pretty cool with all of its comfy features included, and the free coffee/hot chocolate that riders want on it. The finding of your Yondex car - taxi cab in your first arrival to Riga looked like it would have been challenging to anyone who doesn't speak that language. That was pretty cool hearing your mom on the phone as you were talking to her at your Air-BNB spot. Loved the quick clip of all of Marc's hot choc/coffee cups together, was good. Your combined "Oh Wow's" also was so great in a simultaneous fashion. What was the fruit in the compote drink? (Was it something like a plum in there?). Have a great & wonderful time there in Riga!! You guys are totally the best channel, (imho, lol), and I'm so excited to have the chance to see what you guys are seeing, come late this year. That's going to be beyond fun, and an epic adventure for sure, for everyone taking part. Take care!!

Its not hard to find anything for english speakers in latvia, no matter what statistics say, 100% of population below age of 40 understand and can speak some degree of english, that will be always mutually inteligable.

An eventful trip for sure, great that you guys always seem to see the funny side when things go awry. Funny that the taxi guy called your mom, a surprise for both I’m sure. The milk bar looked cool, nice comfort food after a long trip and hot chocolate, oh yeah...

I'm so glad to see your trip, because I'm retiring on 12/31/2020 and going to travel around the world for all of 2021, and all the countries you're going to are on my list! I was considering flying or taking a train between Tallinn and Riga, but after seeing this bus, I will definitely be taking it! It's simpler to take a bus, and this one looks like a winner. I discovered milk bars in Prague (thanks to a Rick Steves guide book) and am definitely a fan! I like the attitude that you two travel with, very much "go with the flow and don't get your knickers into a twist" (just like me).

What an exciting day for the two of you! Those seats on the bus were awesome. You don't get that much room on an airplane! I loved Marc's stack of cups!!! And the phone call to your mum was so funny. Too bad he cancelled, but glad your next driver was very nice and taught you some of your first Latvian words. Can't wait to see more of Latvia.

And BTW, it's "Paldies," with a "P" for "thank you" in Latvian, seeing as you weren't sure in the video.

Thanks for telling us! It's funny that they thought it was either a B or a V and it's actually a P! LOL. But when traveling, more than the correct pronunciation it's important that we TRY. When visitors come to California, I admire how well they can speak English, and even though I can only speak a few languages, I try to say at least learn the basics (hello, goodbye, please, thank you, and how to order a beer) in the local language. I can see that they give me brownie points for at least trying, no matter how badly I mangle it. That is one of my favorite parts of traveling, trying to communicate in the local languages.

The highway you rode on is by far the smoothest and best road in Latvia. I like bus travel in Latvia as the distances are short and prices are cheap. From Riga to Matisi, close to the Estonian border, almost a hundred mile trip, was 5.7 euros and took about two hours.

ha! we also took Lux Express from Tallinn to Riga. They are a really good line of long-distance buses (as compared to Flixbus, which has presence is most other Western and Central European countries). Reasonable fares, free coffee, tea, and hot coco, tons of movies to select from...etc. Flixbus has none of these! Which makes you wonder why Lux Express hasn't expanded beyond the Baltics region.

Have fun! Looking forward to your videos. Are you going to go out to Jurmala? The beaches out there are some of the most beautiful northern beaches anywhere. A little touristy now, but you can still see the old world beach resort look from the 1930's. It's an easy train ride from the train station out there, and worth the trip. Enjoy the restaurants if that is at all your thing -- Riga has the best in the Baltic, and not as expensive as in Russia either. Art nouveau in town is second to none. Riga is my favorite Baltic city, hope you fall in love with it too.

lesson takeaway here: always have a sim card with data packages that works all around europe!

Hey, cool bus, phone call to your mom 😄, and looks like fun! I don't know how long your there, but you could check to see if any Chicago Blues Bands are there right now. Worth checking out if so as I know they often travel there. Enjoy! 🥰

I wouldn't recommend going to any event right now with Coronavirus around... Estonia has suspended all events and public gatherings, as well as schools...

@@EileenAldis Yes, that is sad fact: after the SSSR occupation about 40% of the citizens of Latvia are russian origin(in Estonia about 30%) but in Lithuania, your next stop ;) .. only 10 %. Hyvää matkaa! Please visit Vilna of Lithuania, the capital of Lithuania! You'll love the old town!(I'll tell you later why I know)

Hmm not sure how it will be for you guys now, very soon there will be no busses to Lithuania/Estonia and no planes leaving Latvia. From 17th of March. Also I'm not sure if Lithuania now allows foreigners in, due to the virus.

doesnt Lativa have quarenteen? Or is this an old viedo? I dont see people with masks. Lativa has over 400 cases and no deaths. People seem to be spreading the virus but not dying based on the number. Must be very healthy.

Are you afraid of getting trapped? I'm in Serbia now and my restaurant pals told me just now the government may close the border tomorrow.
