Talking Watches With Adam Levine

Ойын-сауық

You can tell that Adam Levine - whose band, Maroon 5, has won several Billboard Awards, even more American Music Awards, and a few Grammys - has been around the watch collecting world by all that he's seen, owned, and in some cases, sold. In many ways, Adam is an old-school watch collector - buying what he loves and not caring what other people think. He's owned everything someone "should," and now, his collection is simply full of things he loves. And that's the best kind of watch collection.

I barely check out Hodinkee anymore, but when Ben does a Talking Watches, it reminds me of why I first liked the site. This is the best of Hodinkee. Even though I don't know Maroon 5, Adam Levine comes across well and seems likable and down to earth. Excellent interview!

Adam mentioned John Mayer giving Maroon 5 a big break as an opener: As a freshman in high school, I saw them open for John at the RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, NY (a hockey rink, basically). I think it was 2001 or 2002. That performance made me a fan. I love how their cross-section of interests, like watch collecting, has evolved since then. They've gone from playing to a few hundred people on the same bill to owning Rainbow Daytonas and becoming music legends of our time. So incredibly cool.

He is learning about them, and creating memories with them. Sometimes we have to take a step back and just remember that we all have to start somewhere. If he loves watches thats enough. Totally agree. Honestly at Adam’s wealth level it’s cool he’s taken somewhat of a technical interest at all and attached some meaning to certain pieces. He could just buy whatever and know nothing. People have different hobbies and knowledge isn’t a pre-requisite of owning nice pieces. With that said it’s a little annoying/prototypical for someone to JUST go for Rolexes when there are tons of other brands

Love the passion Adam has for his timepieces! Any friend of chronographs is a friend of mine! I also love how Ben is a master of moving the conversation along and bringing out Adam’s inner child! Ben just has that organic skill! It’s truly these episodes that validate the tears and joys of searching….getting….and even creating what we want for our own collection! Although we may agree or disagree with some of the pieces in Adam’s collection, there is no denying his passion is real and long standing. A genuine and satisfying Talking Watches episode.

Stainless Day-Date? Think he means Datejust? Also, some of those pushers on the Daytona's look kind of weird....

That custom lume dial with the skeleton subdials is sick. It still retains a classic feel while being a one off custom.

Put out talking watches more often. Most of us watch nothing else on your channel. The series about Hamilton was incredible. More of that, please.

Nice to see new TW videos! Next get Richard Hammond, he has many cool watches. And for the last time, dear Hodinkee, put all your mighty resources towards getting an TW with Eric Clapton! No matter the cost or power needed, the world deserves to know what's on the wrist of the Slowhand. I know he can be a bit arrogant, but just play along and give him whatever respect and admiration to get the bloody yes of him. Preferably an hour long, and with Ben ofc. Maybe do it in his garage as well. The last one will work on Hammond too. But whatever you do, don't play any music by Geneis!

Any guesses how much money is on that table? The Rainbow was 97k retail. I saw one in Los Angeles a few years ago for $360 k as a re-sell. The price is much higher now. The Patek is probably a platinum case (over $100 k) and the two panda Daytonas are six figures.
