Notes :
Another storming Talking Heads set from the 1983 tour ! This one's been recorded in Berkeley mid-tour. The band is tight and the performance is hot. No particular song to highlight here, the whole show is great and the sound quality is almost perfect for an audience recording ! Taper, whoever you are, you did a great job !
Talking Heads (1983) were :
David Byrne : vocals, guitar, keyboards
Chris Frantz : drums, backing vocals
Jerry Harrison : keyboards & synth solos, guitar, backing vocals
Tina Weymouth : bass, keyboards, vocals
+
Edna Holt : vocals
Lynn Mabry : vocals
Steve Scales : percussions
Alex Weir : guitar, backing vocals
Bernie Worell : keyboards wizard
Picture by Steve Ringman shot during this very gig !

I was there with my boyfriend, Scott. I became a fan the first time I saw and heard them.
Saw this show the night after seeing James Brown in Sacramento. Best weekend ever!
I was at this show! Met the band, again. After.
why don't people talk about alex weir, such an underrated guitarist. i literally can't find anything about him anywhere

Alex Weir wiki. There's a lot of info. He was special. You're welcome.
HOUSES IN MOTION?!?!
What a treat to find this. I was at this show!
Hearing the reactions from the audience really does it for me, it's so special. Like the "Alrite Tina!" and the "Is that Jerry Harrison?" very swag
This is either my tape or my friend Mark's tape. Great show better than the film. I also saw and taped September 4. I think they played on September 3 as well at the Greek but archives show they were in Santa Barbara, but I think that show was cancelled and Sept 3 was added. A long time a go so I could be wrong.
I was there, soon to be 18 years old then. Tom Tom Club was a special added part of a great concert!

Did you live in the area? I was also 18, living in Berkeley
My very first show. Right before freshman year.
I saw them in Oct. of 1983, at Palmer Auditorium in Austin. I have seen a lot of concerts in my life, this was the very best. There is no way to describe it, no fancy laser show, just reflections of he band from curved mirrors on a screen behind the band. The effect was hypnotic as was the music.
Greatest show i ever saw.

that was the night i stopped sitting down at shows
I am having so much fun listening to this concert! But it is a bitter sweet experience for me. I was a huge concert goer back in 1983 and would have loved to see this show. Instead, I only "heard" it...sort of. I saw all the big rock and "new wave" bands of the 80's including the Police, the Who, Pink Floyd, Santana, The Fixx, The Thompson Twins, Oingo Boingo and all the ska bands around. The Talking Heads was one of my favorites, but, for whatever reason, I missed this show (2 shows in Berkeley). I was living in West Berkeley at the time and I remember hearing the concert from my mother's house 2 miles away. The energy level was so amazing...every time I heard the audience roar and cheer, I felt terrible that I wasn't there! This is one of my biggest concert regrets, along with missing the free Devo concert at Cal (I was a student at the time), missing a free Billy Preston concert a couple miles from my house and missing Ledd Zeppelin at the Oakland Coliseum. At least I can finally hear what I missed on September 2, 1983 and reminisce a little. Thanks so much for posting this concert! Truly a peak performance!

I was as well. Best concert I've ever attended.
I was there. It was awesome. I was 18 and just starting sophomore year at Cal. So cool that somebody made a recording this good and this complete! A big blast from the past! My only regret, then and now, is they played little off More Songs About Buildings and Food--what I think is their best record--except Thank You for Sending Me an Angel and Take Me to the River, not my favorite. Maybe it was just not the right fit for the big band they had assembled. Maybe Brian Eno's amazing production couldn't be duplicated live. Or maybe they were just not interested in playing stuff that was 5 years old at that point. 🤷

This was a rehearsal for "Stop Making Sense" which was filmed a few days later at the Pantages Theater in LA. I was there too, just 17 years old. We're seeing the 4K restoration of the film tonight at the Castro in San Francisco, can't wait.

So is de Nero isn’t he on a wanted list. Heard. He nocks about with paddy Parker & Liam Neson
😱
Why did they performed Burning down the house twice?lol
@Blank_Frank
3 жыл бұрын
Because people kept shouting for hearing that song when they were performing. They performed "Burning Down The House" as a second encore for the summer leg of that tour. They replaced it with "Pull Up The Roots" for some dates in october, then dropped the second encore.

So good they had to play it twice!
👻
What about Pulled up and Wild Wild Life????

"Pulled Up" wasn't performed live after 1978, and "Wild Wild Life" was written and released in 1986, three years after this concert.
