    Joss and Lee killed this NAMM show. Lee is an absolute class-act, and Joss has a ton of knowledge in multiple facets of these newer concepts. In my opinion, You Are The "A" Team lol. Take care and hope to see you guys in Nashville for Summer NAMM!!!

    I switched today and got the fluence moderns. I never really learned how to put in pick ups so I waiting to get my guitar back from the shop. I played them in the store and absolutely fell in love with them. The clarity is unreal. Definetly going to record an album with these pick ups. If you're skeptical about them do whatever you want for your sound. But they definetly live up to the hype. I'm putting a set in my shecter tempest. Can't wait to play them all day when I get my guitar back.

    Comparisons to EMG's? Also, there was a time in the 70's where the newest, latest, greatest thing was solid state transistors and chips that were going to revolutionize the amp industry and make tube amps obsolete. But we all know how that turned out. No, you're not going to wheel out an old tube television to watch the big game - but you ARE going to wheel out a tube AMP when you want the best sound on stage. Not throwing shade on this obviously brilliant product, but sometimes new isn't necessarily better.

    Maybe Fishman Fluence pickups have a new technology to them, but they are just "battery eaters"! There are Fishman battery packs, but they are very expensive for what they are (I mean a PCB board with few tiny components in a plastic enclosure). I'm thinking of replacing my Seymour Duncan Blackouts and I'm not sure I'll go for the Fluence. I don't want to become beholden to change my battery every week or so.

    Re tonewood, it's a fundamentally flawed argument to start from an acoustic guitar example - electric guitar pickups are NOT microphones! They are work through magnetic induction. The type of wood make a tiny difference to sustain, but less than the construction, scale length, bridge material, fret material etc. You'd think this would have been explained to a guy working for Fishman!!

  • @KeithMilner

    @KeithMilner

    6 жыл бұрын

    As you say, the sound from an inductive pickup comes from the vibration of the string, not from the vibration in the body. In fact "resonance" in a solid body guitar pulls energy from the strings (the energy to vibrate the body has to come from somewhere) and will actually damp them.

  • @0TheDudeHAHAHA0

    @0TheDudeHAHAHA0

    6 жыл бұрын

    If the body vibrates, will it not impact the vibration of the string?

  • @jamiebradbury2331

    @jamiebradbury2331

    6 жыл бұрын

    yes, the vibrations of the wood will add to the vibration of the string. if it didn't Semi hollow guitars wouldn't make any difference which they actually do in a big way.

  • @KeithMilner

    @KeithMilner

    6 жыл бұрын

    Of course it will, which is kind of what I said. But the primary sound producing mechanisms for acoustic and electric guitar are fundamentally different. Acoustic guitars work by transferring resonance from the strings to the body and amplifying that in an acoustic cavity. Electric guitars don't do that, so any sound absorbed by the body is taking something away from the sound, rather than adding it. In general, it's something you want to minimise as it will negatively impact the sustain. Yes, that will, ultimately impact the tone, especially if specific frequencies are absorbed by the body. But there's a lot of factors that will drive that absorption including the bridge, the nut, the frets and the construction and setup of the guitar. The wood may have a small impact in all that but, as I said, the general aim on an electric guitar is to minimise that impact. Compared to an acoustic, the impact of the wood is tiny, maybe negligible. The vast majority the tone comes from the pickups, the amp and the player's fingers. Possibly the biggest impact of the wood is that it may have a psychological impact on the player, which may make them play differently.

  • @vuriby

    @vuriby

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yup the argumentation was shit, but still true. Even the the fingerboard's wood changes the tone, people saying the opposite are biased, or they didn't train their ears at all...

  • @wiseguy9202
    @wiseguy92026 жыл бұрын

    Tone wood with electric guitars. You already answered why tone woods are nothing more than BS with electrics. You said you can have 2 of the exact same guitars and pickups and they could sound so different. That's because of the minute wiring nuances within each guitar. That's it. Not to mention, pickups don't actually touch the wood in LP's, Fenders etc...Resonance only is affected, not tone. I think people don't understand the difference between the 2.

  • @IPushHard

    They aren't really that much more expensive then whats already been out there. A high end set of humbuckers go for a few hundred. I think these are slightly over 3 hundred. Yea, a little more expensive but the switching gives you essentially 3 sets of differently voiced pickups. So it really works out to be about the same. ...and you're right. If I couldn't see them, I doubt that I could hear a set of fluence pickups and pick them out. Then again, I also doubt that anyone who cant afford them is running to buy some.
