I really think all skin colors are beautiful though your skin is in fact lighter than that of many Europeans (the ones from the Mediterranean) lighter than many Arabs too. Your friend is also very beautiful. Yours is lithe and quick, graceful, even elegant, as an artist; hers is powerful and imposing, also elegant but in a regal manner.

Thx :) I recently watch historical chinese dramas every day like yanxi palace, empresses in palace and so on and learn a lot of vocabularies from sub titles. Is this a good idea? how many percent of the words in historical chinese dramas can be used to communicate with average Chinese? Will they understand?
@QuizmasterLaw

@@andia968 It's a great idea because it's content you are interested in which is gonna be around hsk3 level (marketing!) of course you will not use 妖精 in your everyday speech but you might in fact if you find other people who are into costume dramas (Hi! I am into costume dramas!) And then they may well explain to you other uses of 精 (uh, sperm lol!) or other yao sound alikes 要 for example. Seriously, costume dramas are awesome, there might be some pointless vocab but you're into it and most of the vocab will be useful so by all means go for it 千年等一会!

Ngl Frieda is one of the prettiest women I have seen in my life!
geez louise, she is beautiful!! i have a chinese friend who visited my hometown (in europe). the weather was nice, my friend put on some makeup and we went for a walk around city center. while we were waiting to cross a street, an old lady that was next to us gave her an apple from her bag because she thought my friend is not feeling well because she was so pale. my friend just found out that we associate unnatural paleness with feeling unwell and not necessarily with beauty standards.

😂🤣😃😏😋🤔 different standards for most but that's natural and as humans ages as do their ways!
As an American male, it's strange to watch two beautiful women tear themselves down over things which really don't matter. Looks might attract but after that first attraction, it really doesn't matter. You're not with them for freckles or lack of them, or light or dark skin, you are there because of who they are.
I enjoyed this very much. I am 59. Tears came to my eyes at the end when you two began to speak about true inner beauty.....The Chinese language and both of you are truly beautiful.
Wow! Freckles are considered cute and one of the "7 beauty markers" in the West! People even apply fake freckles these days ✨ Really shows we should let go of these standards and love our own individual beauty more! Both of you are stunning!
Quality of character is the foundation of true beauty.
Eileen is smart enough to choose a controversial subject and delivered to us in an interesting and wise manner. I really appreciated the video. Thank you. Eileen is the host here, not to be judged by stupid people. Just learn Mandarin guys. no need to judge about others' look.
Frieda is back! Definitely your most interesting guest. Great dialogue for getting used to native speakers casually talking together. KZread needs more material like this for more advanced Chinese learners. gj

In ancient Chinese times, women advocated whitening, because in ancient times, poor women had to farm to the fields, The skin is tanned with intense sunlight, and rich people and aristocratic daughters, include princess does not stay at home, the skin will become white, ancient people advocated aristocrats, so they will choose to whiten
You women are both very beautiful. And I loved when Frieda talked about inner beauty and I think she’s absolutely right. You both have the beauty and confidence of people who are doing good and pursuing their dreams. This makes two already beautiful women really shine! As for beauty standards, I live in the US and when in California I was teased relentlessly for not being dark skinned enough. Also my prominent nose was not well prized. I feel in general healthy skin tiny waist, curvy but not too curvy any skin color, moderate facial features of whatever racial background. Noses small but not too tiny, long eye lashes, no body hair, dark eyebrows but not too bushy. These are the standards in the US. I think in a way we are trying to look unrealistically young too but with huge breasts.
I honestly hope society all around the world will progress enough to stop caring about beauty standards cos beauty (or whether you fit the modern standards or not) doesn't say anything about you as a person but your character, skills and interests do. That's what we should pay attention to.
This channel just keeps getting better. Eileen, you and Frieda should do more videos together. Great content and chemistry.
different standards in different countries? I guess that's true but as an old guy who has been around the world many times, all I have to say is that neither one of you two should ever have to wonder about your looks. you are both gorgeous, almost as pretty as my grandaughters. Whether or not you are beautiful in Chinese eyes is a subject you should never ever be concerned about.
As they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"...you both are beautiful, inside and out.
I notice the audio is so much better than the last conversation you had with her. Whatever changes you made have helped
Really, Frieda's charm is what makes her beautiful. She has such a positive and bright aura. 🤗

I've been waiting for you to make a video about this topic, thank you so much!😊 I think it's more intresting and beautiful when people look unique rather than just follow the same standard. I'm intrested to know is there anything in China like body positivity movement in the West. For example, influencers who post pictures where they look "unattractive" rather than filtered perfection. I heard that a Chinese brand called Neiwai did a commercial campaign including different body shapes. It would be intresting to know what kind of discussion it sparks when someone (company or a person) tries to break out of the beauty standard (like the case with Zara model).
This channel is soooooooo cool. Here I can learn not only a language but also the culture and how the "real" native think about life. Sure I'll be a lifetime premium.

I have watched Eilleen since end of 2017, when I started to learn Mandarin. Hongkong, Shenzhen, some of her videos. I wrote down a few of them. At that time, she spoke sliwlier than now. I also watch XM Mandarin, Yoyo Ng, Chinese zero to hero, etc... It improves my listening skills. Last year I got Hsk-3, but recently when I wanted to take Hsk-4, the Confucius Institut in Jakarta closed down due to Pandemi. Nowadays she speaks in normal speech. That's good. I download this video to listen to later on... Thx..

Marvellous talk
I think this is a very important topic to be having now.
In Russia we don't have this concept at all. We call people with darker skin "smuglyi/smuglaya" which even have a bit of soft and romantic air to it. Russians come in all shapes, forms and sizes. And many ladies love get darker in summer, get as much sun as possible. Although we have other beauty standards to drive ourselves crazy with 😁😁. Every country will have some things for girls to get obsessed with or suffer from☹️. We speak and we speak about beautiful hearts and personalities, but in reality people great you by the look ...
I am getting addicted to your videos very helpful as usual and Frieda you have a beautiful skin color , it is amazing How you developed different beauty measuring standard !

A million thanks Eileen. You are so beautiful and generous for providing us such videos. I must acknowledge your videos have helped me immensely with the Chinese language. 非常感谢Eileen, 你最审美的, 非常感谢给我们提供这样的内容对于我的中文帮助可大着呢。
I really enjoyed this discussion, and my favourite part was what Frieda said at the end. It was a great message. I think Chinese beauty standards are a bit extreme, at least when many go through such measures to achieve them. I don't think there's anything wrong with naturally being pale or very thin as long as you're healthy. But I'd also love to see more of the natural Chinese beauty which includes the smaller eyes and different complexions. They're beautiful too :)

I came across these videos and I'm interested in what people have to say. The more I watch the more I want to learn Chinese! Even though I'm far from intermediate, watching these has helped to hear the difference between the tones. Language is both skill and knowledge after all, hearing the tones is hard when your brain filters them out as something not relevant to the meaning of the word
this was a very thoughtful and interesting conversation :) my country of origin shares some aspects of this beauty standard but the more you talk about inner beauty and healthy standards, the more it is a universal value you need to love yourself and value yourself and develop enough qualities that you have confident in your own skin it is very apparent that ugly and fat people must have a very hard life in asia (as many of these standards are peculiarly asiatic)
