Street interviews are back! Great!

The Husband and Wife were funny. I loved seeing them disagree and the wife was so passionate with her knowledge and the husband just rolls his eyes, holding back his rebuttal LOL

A 40-ish minute of free, no ads video, with a ton of work translating, oh my god! If i had money, i''ll definitely donate to you, too bad i'm only a student so i don't have much money Wait for me a couple of years Aileen! Thank you for your hard work :D

@@madcuntmcgee1955 Ming is very advanced at that time and what Zheng He does, he didn't bring kind of a new innovation unless he went to Europe. The husband is actually pretty smart too, but he just doesn't explained more and why. The second one, he should've explained about how Qin has new emperor system while Xia, Shang, Zhou system doesn't really have emperor system. It's not really Huang Di but more of Wang back in the Xia, Shang, Zhou system. Some of the questions do really need long explanation I feel.

@@madcuntmcgee1955 no, the other way around. China *was* indeed quite advanced at the time, especially compared to the south eastern coast of Africa (the farthest point of Zheng He’s expeditions), and it *was* a huge waste of resources for a stupid vanity project that bring any benefits to China.

These street interviews are amazing! Great for learning casual speech. Also, the fact that these people gave up their time for this long interview is amazing, the Chinese people are so nice

As an Egyptian, I confirm that the pyramids were used to generate power. However, the lady at 36:24 was slightly wrong: we used thousands of Honda generators. In addition, the Khefre pyramid was used as a wifi access point - because how do you explain all those cat statues? Excellent job and great video! Please make more street interviews, they're fascinating on many levels!

@@Pletzmutz You are partially correct, this was derived by a pyramid worker (a wifi implementation engineer at this pyramid, to be exact) who wanted to sell makeup supplied to the same middle aged ladies, then it evolved into an entire operation of makeup and dietary supplements.

@First Name 我花了很多时间重视普通话，但是中国历史、除了近代史，我根本不了解。其实我喜欢大元朝，那时候皇帝不是汉族的，但是他们一些年后就接受了中国文化，我觉得非常有意思

You can actually argue either Shang or Qin to be the first dynasty. The Shang are the first dynasty that we have real evidence for (unlike the Xia) and the Qin were the first to form something that approaches the territory we now consider China.

I do follow the thinking of Gu Jiegang in this regard. That Xia was invented simply to justify the rule of Shang. The obvious dualism in cultur between Xia and Shang, does also point to it being created.

Great video! I literally laughed out loud multiple times. Really interesting topic and so valuable to have natural speech. I love that the video is long too. I logged into my account on your website to watch it without English subtitles which is great, although I still find the pinyin to be a bit distracting. As for the question about the first dynasty- those who answered Xia, Shang and Qin were all kind of right. The first entity in the old Chinese scripts said to have ruled parts of china is indeed Xia. However , Archeological findings can’t confirm yet it’s existence, it is considered more of a myth that had been established in order to give legitimacy to the reign of the first ruler of Shang who defeated the “corrupt” last ruler of Xia. Shang does have archeological evidence so therefore it’s ok to say that either Xia or Shang were the first entity to rule in China. Nevertheless, if you ask me, the most accurate answer is Qin dynasty. The first emperor of Qin unified “All under heaven”(which ended the warring stated period), and this based imperial China in the territory that in considered to be the main part of china and included those who are considered to belong to the culture of Han. So, Qin were the first Dynasty to rule OVER china with legitimacy acknowledged by all (though not liked by all) and not rule IN China like Shang. So, I think when we talk about the first Dynasty, we should talk about the first Imperial dynasty- Qin. however, the answer is not unequivocal, and therefore I think all 3 answers are good.

Zheng He quite famous in Nusantara history. We called him 'Cheng Ho'. Thank you for this, I like to learn Chinese and History. I'm curious about people in other province, especially autonomous regions like Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang. Are they know a lot about History of China as well? So many interesting things about China, thank you for this video. 加油！

@Soulwalker Young I think it's not true :D I don't deny the fact that, in general, the Vietnamese have fairly good knowledge on Chinese history because we have had close relationship in the past. I can answer all questions in video @@ (except question about 四大發明 - only can list 3 of 4). But the truth is, commonly, Vietnamese would know more about Vietnam history.

The question about the first/last dynasties was interesting because most were saying that the Qin was the first (which I was also taught in Chinese class) because it was the first unified dynasty. I feel like there is reluctance to say the Xia dynasty because it is considered mythical

True, the xia is still under much research. For now, the Shang can be considered a realistic first dynasty.

Unfortunately, lots of people in every country have a poor knowledge about history, both of local history and world history. Not to give people enough spare time for self-education is a way to control them. It's an old story, it repeats generation by generation. So, the greatest Chinese philosopher, as for me, is Lao Tsu 老子, because he knew this strategy the powers that be do use. And he said we should beware them. 老子万岁。

@@0_o561 yes, that's it, to force someone to do something he/she doesn't like to do is an incorrect way of education. That's why I said "self-education". So, when a person does have spare time, it would be nice to read a history book or watch a history video on YT etc. Because knowing history is a way to understand our today's actions and maybe future. George Orwell, author of "1984", said: "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past". Thus I have an idea that all of us should know world's history, but I also understand that it is impossible. We have different hobbies and so on.

Woah! I’m very surprised that as a Non-Chinese I knew most of the answers! All thanks to Laszlo Montgomery’s China History Podcast I guess. I didn’t know any of the tones for the names though, so that is very helpful.

I‘m surprised a lot of people do NOT know the origin/meaning/purpose of the "Oracle bone scripts" (甲骨文) because in the english translation "ORACLE" already tells the meaning. Maybe because religion isn't very important anymore in (mainland) China and oracles were very closely connected to religion?
