Talk DATA to ME! - TIM SEED & MIKE NORTON

Спорт

Electronics and suspension are major components to a racing motorcycle, so we sat down with McAMS Yamaha electronics engineer Tim Seed and experienced Ohlins technician, Mike Norton to try and find out more about things like rider aids, traction control (or lack of it), compression, rebound, and other phrases from the dark art of motorcycle set-up. It's the first time the fellas have done anything like this and they did a great job!

Whoa great pod Dave these guys were so interesting for inside knowledge on the bikes and the way they behave on track just amazing , the whole thing broken down I knew nothing about most of it but it was so interesting and a good laugh, to have to ask though now the McAms team is no more where are the guys now because they must have been snapped up by another team surely . Those numbered questions are just gold ,the responses are guaranteed to make you laugh just great roll on the next one spot on 👌👍

Thanks CM, wasn't sure how this one would be received but I'm delighted so far 🙂 I suspect Tim will continue in the paddock for Yamaha in '24, as for Mike I'm not sure what his plans are for next season. With his pedigree he certainly won't be short of offers 👌🏼📈

Must do more of the tech stuff, just brillant, would of been good to hear their thoughts on aligning bsb electronics with wsbk as I believe it affects brits moving onto the world stage. These guys are the unsung hero's behind any successful rider. Fascinating.

Thanks David, from the response we've had we'll certainly be doing that. We've a Crew Chief view coming up early January so hopefully you'll enjoy that one too. It's definitely not easy to switch to WorldSBK or vice versa as Brad Ray explained earlier in the year. The WorldSBK electronics are even more advanced than MotoGP because they're still open - Bautista's Ducati has a more configurable electronics system than Pecco's 🙂

I've been saying for years to magazine editors etc that it would be great to interview some of the great mechanics etc as well as riders and team owners but nothing ever appears. Finally someone has done it! Well done, that was fascinating. One person I'd love to see interviewed is Anthony 'Slick' Bass - now there has to be a great interview there, surely?

We’ll be doing a live with Tim later in the New Year and hopefully Mike too so there more to come from both of them. We’ve Taz’s Crew Chief Chris Anderson coming first week of January and we’re sitting down with a MotoGP CREW chief and Data Engineer mid-Jan back over at Roger Burnett’s place 😉

Great podcast there mate. I agree wioth many others, it was very interesting to hear their insights into riding style and machine setup. Be really good to have their rider in there too to discuss how the changes feel to them when working on it as a team.

That's something we can definitely work on putting together, Rick. We're very fortunate to have great relationships with most of pit lane so it shouldn't be a problem 🤞🏼
