It's because most people bought the game on Switch and Namco seemingly went out of their way to make the Switch version worse than all the others. And why? Namco undoubtedly knew the Switch version would sell better, so why give Switch owners the short end of the (already short) stick? Fans are right to call this behavior out. Telling people to "shut up and buy a Playstation" will only make the problem worse.

Because it was 60fps on GameCube The 30fps lock is very noticeable and staggering to the eyes on some tv screens. It hurts eyes

HI! Interesting review and I agree that the graphics look pretty sharp and looks great on an HD TV. However the 30fps is not the main reason people are complaining about this game. Granted a lot of people are (including me I'll explain my reason later). If this was the only issue with the game then people would just have accepted it. The main issue with this game is the lack of care and respect the developers have placed in this game. They constantly keep calling the most "critically acclaimed" Tales of game but they never put effort in actually doing a proper port and almost seems like a side idea or project. This so called "Remaster" pretty much only upscales the textures. Sure they added the Skip scene feature but it only works on skits (which are optional), animates anime scenes(not that many) or pre-rendered videos like the intro or the tower of salvation appearing on Sylvarant. All the actual in-game scenes are unskippable so it was a half baked feature, they also mentioned improve gameplay but the only thing they improved was some boat controls that are a very SMALL part of the game and honestly playing the game it feels exactly the same as the Gamecube/PS3 and Steam version so the improvement is so miniscule that it is pretty much negligible. In addition the new techniques for the characters that were previous exclusive to the PS2 port of the game still have a very low audio (practically mute) and some even have no voiced lines(the low volume voices files ARE in the game but they are placed incorrectly so the game doesn't use them. I know because on STEAM someone adjusted the volume of ALL the new techniques and then move the incorrectly placed files to the correct place and actually made it work). Furthermore, this game is littered with bugs and localization errors. For example: Remiel at the beginning of the game is missing dialogue, I have a weird glitch were Kratos' mouth looks like it is overlapping in all my cutscenes, some events have dialogues but character models are not moving their mouths, heck that even happens in one voiced scene. While not as predominant as in the Switch version you can certainly see some black edges when you start battle, open the menu or watch skits(this was not in the previous releases), characters have a weird semi transparent outline that appears black or transparent on certain backgrounds or before starting battle, weird character model glitches(kratos, some enemy movement looks like they are just t-posing and floating before going back to normal on a certaion location won't say to avoid spoilers), black edges on certain scenes and finally long loading times when entering/leaving a city/dungeon. You can also see a small loading screen when you start a battle after booting up the game or after a cutscene or change of scenery. All the aforementioned bugs I've personally experienced on my current playthrough on my PS5. Sure the game runs very smoothly at 30fps but if all they did was improve the graphics then this NOT a remaster. The stable 30fps is something that should be expected in the PS3/Steam port NOT in a remaster specially when the original games runs at 60fps. The Gamecube version also has smoother gameplay and better world map camera. Heck a simple fix they could have added was the removal of the delay between high level spell.. seriously if three memebers of your team are spell casting mid or high tier spells it takes for ever due to them being exected in order/faster one and then delaying the others. Fixing the Nintendo Switch port is not them doing us a favor but actually them doing a proper job, all the blacks screens, crashes and missing glass break animations would have been easily caught on the first 10 minutes of gameplay, so they either didn't care and were sure people wouldn't care either and just accept it or they just didn't do any QA check because this is just a quick cash grabbing port so budget was not available. Sadly a lot of "fans" will just accept whatever mediocre product comes out and this is what allows companies to get away with stuff like this. Seriously how is it possible that a 20 year old game (as you mentioned) runs so poorly on a modern console. Is the gamecube superior to the Nintendo Switch, PS3, PS4,PS5,XBOX and that is why it runs at 60fps? Or is this just the developers not wanting to spend time and money actually doing a proper remaster and fixing old code. If they truly wanted to remaster this game they could have listened to actual fan feedback. Most fans wanted the 60fps version of the game because that is based on the gamecube version that has 0 localization errors and provided the better gameplay. The developers actually acknowledged what the fans wanted in their QA response but said the game was based on the Steam version which was based on PS3version that is based on the PS2 version that is 30fps. So if this "Remaster" flops is not the fans fault. It is Bandai Namco and Tales of Series fault for once again delivering a subpar product that fixes little to no issues and adds new ones. I mean if you're happy with a below half assed remaster then that's cool but it just bugs me that Bamco are being allowed to pull shit like this, especially on the Switch owners who had more removed than added and even now it doesn't work properly. Crap like this is why all my old consoles stay set up

Point is simple ToS is a great game in general period, it's just there's nothing in this "remaster" that's worth 40$ the only thing that was done in this port is that they ran the textures thru a auto sharpening tool and called it a day, compare it to Crisis Core Reunion a full blown remake 40$ now that's value worth your money. And the less said about the Switch version the better missing effects, often frame rate drops , often crashes and so on. You can have the remsster experience for 5$ by buying the Steam version and patching it with the PC fix and a texture pack.

It's not about the game being unplayable or anything like that. It would be like if in a few generations they remaster, I don't know, the NieR saga, let's say, and they pick the Xbox One version of Automata... why? Why would you pick an inferior version that runs at lest than 1080p when you got the PS4 version. Oh, and notice it's the "NieR collection" but there is no NieR Replicant. Well, the same here. The gamecube version still runs better than this game (that you play on a PS5 nothing less), there is no Symphonia 2 because... well, I don't know why; they already remastered it for Ps3 but... I don't know, I guess they were feeling lazy. And the work they did is minimum: the menus and skits have a black background because... again, no damn reason (the GC does have proper backgrounds) and it's 40 dollars. Yeah, I wonder why do people complain.

They were simply being cheap no point spending money on a cash grab, for ToS they already got a easy to port PC version but for the sequel they would have to reverse engineering it as it's only on Wii and ps3 which would be expensive cause I can bet my left nut that Namco doesn't have the source code of either game.

Gosh that was one absolutely bad video. There are so many things that are wrong I don’t even know where to start. NB: Tales of Symphonia is one my favourite games ever, and that’s why we as a fanbase are so critical towards the treatment of this “remaster”. Firstly the game doesn’t look “terrific”, it looks quite ugly in fact. Then again, the game is what it is, it’s not that big of a deal to me. However it’s been shown and documented that colors are washed out in this new version, the game has aliasing and framerate drops. So, BELOW 30FPS. It was running at 60FPS smoothly on GameCube. Now that’s a problem and saying the game is gorgeous is simply blowing things out of proportion. It’s factually wrong. On top of those technical issues, there are issues with the game itself that were not present in the original versions. Missing dialogue lines, softlocking in multiple areas, pixelated artworks, empty menus, it’s all been taken out off the original versions and made 10x worse in this remaster. There are also random crashes that have been experienced by many players and journalists. Another point, how can this possibly exceed your expectations when there’s NO changes at all from the Steam version, except it’s a worse version that costs 20 bucks more? You keep on repeating we need to treat the game as it is, and that’s what fans have been doing all over social medias for the past two weeks. We are disgusted that our favourite game has been treated this way. And absolutely no one should encourage those methods like you do, especially as a KZreadr. The fact you’re thinking 40$ for a worse and glitched version of Symphonia is absolutely ok makes me concerned. It’s a 20 year old game that performs worse on every single aspect than the original, and you’re saying to your viewers it’s ok and the complains are exaggerated. It is absolutely not. If anyone has concerns whether you want to buy this game or not, instead of watching this video and taking those comments seriously, I urge you to read the comments below Bandai Namco and the Tales series Twitter accounts. People are documenting all the outrageous issues with this “remaster” all over social medias. Do no waste your money on this scam and get yourself one of those instead: - The original - Tales of Symphonia Chronicles on PS3 - The Steam version (it goes as low as $5 on sale and performs better than this remaster sold for $40)

Tales of Symphonia is an absolute classic. These people are just spoiled with modern graphics and can't enjoy themselves. I have barely seen anyone cover this game on the PS4, it's just the Switch. There was a similar problem with Trails from Zero, but with issues on the PS4 instead of the Switch and I don't seem to remember this much criticism. I just hope this leads to more Tales of games getting remastered.

I agree like recently I’ve been playing goldeneye on switch and all I would hear is negatives on it and people saying it’s unplayable and stuff. So when I played Goldeneye I was absolutely loving it and having fun with it. Obviously it could have looked better and they probably could have fixed some of the controls but after 1 level I got used to it and had no problems. People literally are spoiled.
