    the PS3 version was a port of the Japanese-only PS2 version, which had extra content over the GameCube version but didn’t have 60fps. Just funny how ~18 years later they still couldn’t do 60fps

    When the Remaster was announced I ended up buying a used-like new copy of the PS3 version. I had a feeling that the remaster wasn't going to be anything special, and there was no mention of the sequel either so i felt the PS3 version would be a good investment.

    That's cause the lock 60fps performance was tie to the source code of the GameCube version and Bandai Namco lost that source code so they use the PS2 version as the main source for these ports instead. If they want a 60fps version of Tales of Symphonia, they had to remake it from the ground up again which they are too lazy to do. If you own the PC version and force that one to run at 60fps, you will get a very clanky performance boost. The 60fps in the GameCube version is native only to GameCube, bumping it up won't do any good at all. Fortunately even if the source code for the GCN version were lost, there may still be a chance someone could find it in the wild which could restore future versions, we just had to hope that it is found soon and leak it to the community. Hacking the source code is the only way to fix all the 30fps Tales of Symphonia ports without remaking the game.

    If you're going to release a "Remastered" version of a 20-year-old game, you'd better make sure that the "Remaster" _is actually better than the original_ "straight out of the box". This failed at every level. If this had included a remastered Tales of Phantasia, then we'd have another story here. Instead, I'm passing this and waiting for either the next game, or for a remaster of the PS2 versions of Tales of Destiny & Tales of Destiny 2.

    I do think there's most likely going to be a day one patch when this releases. IIRC, Vesperia had a day one patch, too. For my money, though, the GC version is the best. I actually once met Kari Wahlgren and Coleen O'Shaughnessy at conventions and got their autographs for their turns as Raine and Genis. I loved meeting them. This is one of my favorite games. Too bad the Switch port has issues; but hopefully Namco can fix them. (In all fairness, this morning I DID see the score rise to 71.)

    I remember my dad getting me the GameCube version day one of release. He picked up a small tube TV and took me on a two week cross country drive in his semi truck. Played non stop and beat it twice in the two week trip. Got home and my grandmother had gotten me the guide for it so I invited my friend over and beat it again for the hidden stuff I missed in one night. My friend loved the game so much he stood up the whole time just fixated on the game. Def one of my favorite games and great memories of it. I'm all for the portable version and confident they'll patch the issues.

    @Kimiko Park Correct, I'm not sure why the Switch port is inferior to the Xbox and Playstation versions. It's still 30 fps on every console but has fewer technical issues compared to Switch. Portability doesn't matter to me if the game is half baked. Nier Automata, Crisis Core: Reunion and Persona 5 Royal are perfect examples of GOOD ports for the Switch. C'mon, Bandai Namco!

I don't really understand FPS rates, but I do welcome & hope that this game has quality of life changes that accommodate the present. Some of these old rpg's can be brutal in their design. @@kokotheclown2588 Pretty much why I'll pick it up...eventually. Only real issue THIS remaster has is it's well overpriced tbh (well sides the Switch specific issues with framerate, black screen on menu/skits, white screen battle transitions...30 fps is just due to being a port of the PS2 version, or more likely either the PS3 or PC version...probably PC as I think Dawn was included in the PS3 versions code...well the Chronicles version anyway). It should've been place at about $20, at least no more than $25. Once Gamestop/Amazon/some store has a physical copy that low or lower I'll go grab it/order it or I'll just leave it until next Christmas if the price doesn't drop and let a family member/friend be the one to throw cash out for it lol (I still have my GC and PS3 version and the consoles for it so I don't NEED it right now...and quite frankly I got Trails to Azure, Trails into Reveries, Granblue Re: Link and Octopath 2 and a few other games in the next few months too so I should probably focus on games I haven't beaten yet (as I already beat Symphonia 15 or more times lol...the main draw of the Switch is I'd be able to play it while laying in bed/lounging on the couch rather than sitting up in a gaming/computer chair).

    Actually I STILL LOVE it in JRPG's especially since SOME area's have more then 1 boss take the Wind temple theirs a boss on the top floor then on the way OUT of that area you fight a 2nd boss and can't NORMALLY save the game between the 2 BOSSES that gets fixed WHEN AUTO Save's kick in between MAP screen changes. So on this version as soon as you kill the wind temple bosses first boss on its top floor as soon as you exit that MAP auto save will kick in right their. So yes Auto Saving is a blessing in JRPG's that have either 2 bosses in the same area but aren't BACK to back battles or are in area's that are so long that IT could take you at least 1 hour JUST to reach the Save point BEFORE a boss fight. IE the Ice Temple where you fight Celsuis had NO Save points in it at all in ANY version of the game only but auto save would still kick in via that same spot BEFORE the actual battle against her triggers.

  • @ifrit1937

    @ifrit1937

    Жыл бұрын

    I'll be honest rather than auto saves they should've implemented quick saves (can manually save ANYWHERE in the game to 1 dedicated slot that gets written over) that have been implemented in all Tales games since Xillia if I'm right. Yeah you still have to remember to save yourself but you don't need to go to a save point...as for save points they could be used for saving backups/a main save/heal you in some cases (can't remember if Symphonia's save points healed now that I think of it...I know other games save points did). Granted I also have an extreme bias against auto saves too as I once played a game that ONLY had auto saves and no manual saves and when I got to one point I was completely unprepared but due to when the game auto saved I couldn't go back to grind/gear up and basically got stuck either trying to struggle to win or, in the end, give up and restart the game from scratch. Nowadays I generally have 3 separate saves where the first two are saves at the same time while the 3rd is an hour or more behind or before a major dungoen/going to a new town in case something goes wrong or I miss some sort of side quest that may be needed fro later ones or 100% completion (Trails series in particular I have 1 save at the very start of a new chapter that I only update after making sure I did everything I wanted to do).

    Most remasters are not as good as Metroid Prime. The rumor here is that Prime was originally planned to be a remake, before Retro got put on Prime 4. That's why the game looks so good. Remasters are generally intended to be more effort than a basic port, but far less effort than a full remake. It's said it's based off the PS3 & Steam versions, but frankly just the PS3 because at least Steam can go 4K. For that price, you can pick it up for the PS3 and it includes the sequel, or the PAL version that includes both PLUS Tales of Graces f. I love Symphonia on Gamecube, like a lot of people, it's what brought me into the Tales of series. Seeing this game re-re-release for a third time on another generation of consoles, I hate to admit it but it's just a straight port with maybe a few features than an actual remaster for modern consoles. It's following along the shadows of recently re-released Persona 3 Portable & Persona 4 Golden.

    Personally if I was Namco I would've just marketed it as a port of the PS3/PC version rather than a 'remaster' cause that at least would've kept expectations more in check...on top of that they should've slashed the price in half of what they're asking for it. I'll be getting the Switch version EVENTUALLY after a price drop/sale for it pops up where it's about $20 or less or I'll have someone gift it to me for Christmas if no sales/price drop occurs by then lol (not my $$$ lol). I do like the idea of games being available on modern platforms but god they have to at least properly price them...they also gotta bring out a remaster of a game people want or localize a game that never was localized after this to get some goodwill back from the Tales fandom (a double pack of Desitny DC and Desitny 2 (with Kyle not Reid) for about $40 would be ideal...won't say no to Phantasia Nakiri Dungeon X, Rebirth, or Innocence R either though...really wish they'd just localize all non realeased main titles already).

    As for this Remaster I don't care much about the fps like you as I'd prefer more content...the main issue I DO have though is the price tag they put onto the game. The PS3 version was $60 ya but it had 2 games included in the Chronicles version which means Symphonia there was basically $30 and on PC they sold it day 1 at $20 if I'm remembering correctly however Namco is charging this remaster for $40 when it's practically the same port as the PS3 version but added about 3 minor new features and a few Switch only bugs as well (PS4/5 and xbox 1/Series don't have those glitches but the price tag is still pretty BS). And while Symphonia was and still is my favorite game of all time I cannot in good faith recommend ANY of this new 'Remastered' ports over either the Gamecube, PC, or most of all PS3 port which likely can be found cheaper (well maybe not GC version) and in the PS3 Chronicle's case give a lot more bang for you buck via Dawn of the New World. The ONLY reason to buy these versions of Symphonia now is if you don't have a PS3, GC, strong enough PC and you're unwilling to wait for a sale/price drop or if you want handheld option in regards to the Switch version specifically and even then I would still highly recommend waiting for a price drop/sale/let someone get it for you as a gift over paying the current price. And as for the new voice acting...while I would also love it out of all things they could do bringing back the old cast for more VA work would probably cost the most for the project, maybe as much as a full on small game given how famous some of the actors are now so it was likely never really in the cards unfortunately...that alone may have made it worth the $40 though if they did do it. Throw in who knows if they could even get some of the VAs back as I wouldn't be surprised if a fwe have passed away or retired since Symphonia's first release and while we could get new VAs it'll lily lead to a repeat of Vesperia Switch where people complained about the change from Troy back to Grant George for Yuri's VA assuming they replace an active VA with a new guy...not to mention I can't see anyone besides Cam Clarke as Kratos tbh and the few English games with Lloyd's new VA after Scott was replaced left me unsatisfied with the Teen Titan's (lol) VA being replaced. At bare minimum it would've been nice if they tried to add a few new costumes, cameo or otherwise, to the game but my guess is they didn't do that cause they'd probably need to go back and update the PC version too if they did and my guess is they didn't want to bother going back to it (probably same reason they didn't add Dawn...not cause they couldn't but more so they knew if they didn't do it for PC too they'd get backlash there if these new console ports got it and not the PC).

    Eh not really given it's Symphonia's 20th year anniversary this year (released in Japan in August) and the Japanese game devs/fans love anniversaries for their games. In that sense remastering Symphonia and making it available on modern consoles makes sense...granted the few bugs that popped up that's specific to the switch (white screen battle transitions, black background on menus/skits, occasional drop below 30 fps shouldn't have been a thing...as for 30 fps that's impossible to change without outright redoing all the animations in the game as the animations are locked to 30 fps due to the PS2, which this and all non Gamecube versions are based on, being too weak to handle 60 fps or if they went with a full on remake (which would've needed more time which they likely didn't have as they were working on Arise at the time and likely the next mothership title...only way I could see them doing a full on remake of Symphonia in the same vein as FFVIIR would be if they aimed for the 25th anniversary of Symphonia instead). The only other option would have been to use the Gamecube as the basis but that would mean losing the PS2 only extra content which likely would've also pissed fans off so it likely came down to a choice between content or 60 fps an they went with the content route (some people say it's cause they may have lost the Gamecube source code as well but I feel it's more likely they knew people would complain if they didn't get the PS2's extra content so they went with that version)). With all this said the price they're asking for the game is beyond ridiculous as the PS3 version came with this game AND dawn and was only $60 (well $100 for me but I got the Collector's edition so I got the novel that occurs between Symphonia and Dawn and other physical stuff that game with the game) and even the PC version released at $20 (free if you pre ordered Zestiria when that game was coming out) so the $40 price is beyond stupid...should've been $20, $25 at the absolute max and no more as Dawn isn't included in this remaster. Granted imo they should've went and tried to release Symphonia, Dawn, and Phantasia (Nakiri Dungeon X version though not GBA/SNES version as it's the best version and they GBA version cut out all skits in the west so I'd rather not get that version and get one with all skits included) in 1 giant pack on the Switch/all consoles...would also make sense as all 3 take place in the same world and they may have been able to justify the $40 or even $60 price tag with all 3. I'll still be getting the game eventually on Switch when the price drops to around $20 as I'd like to play it in handheld mode but at the moment I'd say if I had to recommend 1 version to people it'd be the PS3 version given it has both Symphonia 1 and Dawn of the New World included int he Chronicles version.

    @@ifrit1937 Bundling it with at least Phantasia somehow would be a great idea and make me a lot more forgiving as for me that's one of the prime examples of "seriously needs to be more accessible like yesterday" in the series. And I can understand the anniversary aspect but it's not like they've done anything for those aforementioned more needed games on their anniversaries aside from like, special costumes or events in The Rays or something.

    In an interview with Namco Bandai president and the president of the developer of Tales of Symphonia they both stated in an interview the Tales of Symphonia remastered that all Source codes does Sony Source codes and the GameCube Source codes no longer work the only source code that still worked was the steam source code does an interview with the developer of Tales of Symphonia president and the president of Namco Bandai both of them together at the same time in an interview stated that PlayStation 2 and Playstation 3 and Japanese GameCube and America GameCube and the PlayStation 4 port Tales of Symphonia Chronicles Source codes no longer work play state of the only source code that still worked was the steam source code they stated that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and Nintendo switch Symphonia remastered is the steam version remastered because the steam version was the only source code that works and by being a computer version of the game it's much easier to manipulate to Port other systems much easier when it is a computer version it's much easier to mod and tweak and make it run properly on a system that's why patches and updates are possible even around Christmas time of this year Tales of Symphonia remastered is a much better game on the switch than when it came out in February by buying it in December of this year of 2023 you can get a much better version of it the transparency has been fixed a lot of the loading time is much shorter the stained glass window effect that shatters whenever you enter battles has been restored on the switch version the transparency during skits has been restored on the switch when you go into your menu the transparency has been restored it's just when you enter a world they still need to fix the loading time because the loading time of entering the world itself is a little too long even when you go to the fair temple in the desert or the desert part of the game at all as much better solid 30 frames per second on the switch now AK no slowdowns anymore because Namco band I did a major overhaul on the switch version and patching it a lot of parts of the game even parts of the game where people had trouble with certain bosses they fixed it making the switch version a lot more acceptable if you own a switch own the switch version of Tales of Symphonia remastered you should notice your own game runs and performs much more much more satisfactory than when it was released in February well you're more happier with what the game play is now compared to its February release song turn on the switch Symphonia remastered in February you got to admit in this December your Symphonia remastered should be a lot more satisfying to your gameplay than it was when it was released in February symphony is a lot more remastered is more acceptable on the switch nowadays because of all the patch updates they did twice and it's a possibility that Namco Bandai is still not done patching the game cuz it is supposed to be Tales of Symphonia remastered and to me it feels more like the GameCube version but running at 30 frames with extra stuff it's like we got the GameCube version with extra stuff instead of the 60 frames because it's not the PlayStation 2 Port if it was the PlayStation 2 Port do you think we would actually have those real ridiculous loading icons Tales of Symphonia remastered is basically its own new version of the game cuz look at its graphics and look at the fact that it has that little loading icon if it was more of a PlayStation 2 Port it wouldn't have that little loading icon and it would run a lot better does the switch is better Hardware than PS2 because Namco Bandai and the president of Namco Bandai and the head developer of Tales of Symphonia in an interview both presidents of the game and of the name cole Bandai company both stated in an interview of both presidents the none of the Tales of Symphonia that have been on any console Source codes work anymore they stated the only source code that still works is the source code on Steam because the same version is a computer version of the game it's much easier to manipulate and make a lot of adjustments and patches and fixes to eventually make the remastered feel like a real remastered as time passes with future patch updates cuz people are patching games all the time just look at the Legend of Zelda tears of the four kingdoms it's not exactly a perfect game either it has a few bugs glitches and hiccups in it even Pokemon scarlet and the other one have a few glitches cuz look at there are parts of the game where the characters heads act like bobbleheads and wiggling all over the place which is not normal for a Pokemon game even the two newest Pokemon games have a bunch of bugs and glitches in them and so does the new Zelda game tears of the four kingdoms also has a few bugs and glitches in them hiccups so there's a lot of games coming to the switch that have a few problems cuz you got to remember technology is not an exact science there's bound to be issues eventually technology isn't exactly perfect formula called patches to address these problems as long as fans keep complaining about Tales of Symphonia remastered on the switch and on Xbox and Playstation sooner or later Namco Bandai will make Tales of Symphonia remastered finally feel like a real remastered version after all the patch updates make it feel like a real remastered after they patched it enough times as long as fans keep asking for more patches and stuff I'll try at Namco Bandai to try and make Symphonia remastered feel as close to a remastered version as they can get it the word fans are finally satisfied even with the switch version what are the patches they should create is the thing that improves the loading time to come a lot faster because when people enter the world on savonia on any platform the loading time what's the Symphonia remastered on any platform entering the world takes way too long even after you defeat enemies in a battle the world takes way too long I also noticed that when I played it on the switch there was a time when Colette and Gina's were at the top and bottom of the screen and Lloyd was in the middle and that one dialogue when there were diagonal positioning after winning a battle Lloyd's dialogue took too long to come out dialogue was there but it took too long for him to say it indicating there is one piece of dialogue that Lloyd says in certain situations this dialogue needs to be patched in another words they need to speed up his conversation a little bit with a patch update because one of Lloyd's dialogues has too much latency in it it means it takes him too long to say it meaning that's another thing they need to patch is one of Lloyd's dialogue so when he says it'll come out a little more normal pace instead of such a long delay before he says it but this only happens with Lloyd having one dialogue be delayed only after they win a battle and he's only with Colette and genus is the only time during a battle that Lloyd has a dialogue that takes too long for him to say it indicating that something else that needs to be patched and also when it comes to switch and PlayStation and Xbox with Symphonia remastered they need to make it when you re-enter the world or re-enter the world after a battle to speed up the loading time because it takes way too long to re-enter the world when leaving a building structure or leaving the battlefield reentering the world takes way too long the load screen is too long about 10 seconds too long to re-enter the world after leaving a building or after battle the load screen is 10 seconds too long one re-entering the world
