Tales from the Scrap Siding: Arry Learns The Truth

Ойын-сауық

A loose spiritual successor to "A Dark Night for Bert" by theburiedtruck
Bert's been tempered by the ghost of a deceased steam engine. Arry, though, is a different story. A trip to the mainland will have a lasting affect on the second Iron Twin.
Thank you to all the voice actors who made this an amazing story!

My god this was unsettling. I remember the story where James encountered a line of 08 shunters. They were tired and weary, no longer able to fight their fate. This was worse. Hearing the voices still filled with hope. A desperate, paper thin hope, but hope nonetheless. Arry’s voice acting was superb, it really drew me into the setting, made it feel real! Thank you for such a delightfully scary story

That bit with Arry being crowded by the diesels made me realise how *lucky* Oliver, Isabel and Toad in their own situation. Douglas found the trio just by chance, and, having been a fugitive himself, didn't think twice about the situation. Not to mention that another engine, coach and brake van were needed on Sodor. It'd be very unlikely, almost impossible, for Sir Topham Hatt to save so many engines at once as Arry had found. It's a harsh reality of being an engine. Well done on this story.

  • @JamesDaffyBenderDonald

Of all the engines to learn the harsh truth about scrap, I think Arry's experience was the most scarring. Bert learnt it from one engine, James learnt it from a number of diesels that accepted their fate, but Arry had to learn it from a group of diesels that grovelled at him and fought each other for sanctuary and when he left, the last thing they called was a traitor. Nice work, of all the scrapping horror stories, this was the best. Well done, cheers and keep up the cracking work.

Now that is quite a bone-chilling, yet sinister story! It reminded me of The Truth About Scrap, Diesel's Demons and Bert's Redemption, only this time 'Arry learns the harsh truth about scrap and how it's not just steam engines but also diesels, even from before he used to be blinded when he and his kind were first built yet still not knowing what would come next. Wonder how D10 would also react about his kind being scrapped as well (aside from that one episode in Sodor the Magic Within). Also, that withdrawn diesel's face flickering from alive to parish does creep me out a bit.

This was amazing, and others making comparisons to a dark night for bert and bert's redemption. I consider this the part 3 of a story. 1 is Bert's talk or hallucination with the scrap engine, then his shock at scrapping a diesel and his understanding of the steam engines, then to Arry seeing how his own kind are as they await the cutters torch, sort of like a large scale journey for the twins as the bubble of their minds pops. I also think it adds because Arry may have known about big diesels being scrapped, but always thought that the reliable shunters like him and diesel would always be necessary because of how many their were. Sadly, those numbers just show how expendable they are. It's one thing to see a rusted and dead engine going to be destroyed, it's another to see them alive and lined up, waiting as death approaches them. Great work.

By contrast, 'Arry, when he faces the truth chooses to run away when confronted with his own mortality.

@22Tesla Amazing. This is what I was looking for in one of these scrap stories. The real raw emotion behind an engine's unavoidable death. When I think of engines getting scrapped I don't think of them just quietly accepting their fate. I imagine many of them would be begging and pleading the way these diesels did. I mean, if you were for certain to die and you somehow found a way to cheat death, wouldn't you beg in the same way? It's the human aspect of these living locos that draws us to the Thomas franchise in the first place - they're just like us. This side of the ends of engines is never explored because it's extremely uncomfortable, much like the truth in real life it's easier to tell a softer lie than face reality. Most of these engines probably met their end the same way people who are murdered do: crying, screaming, and begging for a way out. Although it's extremely difficult to portray something like this, I thank you for having the guts to do it. This really drives home the finality of scrapping and the sorrow and desperation behind the end of each engine. Well done Tesla. You are a true storyteller.
