It is obvious Tal is a savant. Anyone who can go home and learn to read music in 2 weeks without formal training by themselves is a person born to do what she has done. All she did is travel halfway across the world and hang out with musicians in a foreign country and dazzle them with her talent. Most 16 year olds are thinking about going to prom. Her continued innocence carries on today as she grows into this very unaffected adult with experiences that are so unique. The third time I watched it was today, just right before getting interested enough to look up more from her and I'm surprised I haven't heard from her before. To sing and play bass at the same time is difficult. She sings and strum chords on the bass as if it was a guitar. That reminded me of Les Claypool. And it all comes out of her as if it's nothing to brag about in this interview. Thank you for bringing it up.

You have to ask yourself why she heard of next to no music -- but did hear of "The Rolling Stones" but not of "The Beatles". I doubt she is being honest in order to make it appear she did most of it on her own based exclusively on superior talent.

My question...is she gay? She never mentions a word about her social life, but is traveling at times, in the fast lane of famous performers...she is so attractive, and is 30 or so in this interview. What is her deal?

About the same way my niece's mother allowed her to go to Japan at 14 to model by herself. a truly WTF moment.
Tal with Jeff Beck is amazing fun to watch. Young female Jaco.
Tal´s appearance with Jeff Beck on the 2007 Ronnie Scott´s concert is engraved in my memory (and on YT too ;-) but seeing her here as a grown up women/artist is good. She is an incredible musician and I want to fill the gaps! I guess she was floored by the shockingly fast leaving of Jeff Beck, so unfair!
Tal, you are ultra-phenomenal and absolutely lovely! I first saw you with Jeff Beck. You blew me away. Sorry about the loss of friend Jeff Beck.
Saw Tal at the Enmore along with Jeff Beck... what a show... all the more memorable now after Jeff Beck's passing. She is such an awesome talent and now I can see a really nice person too. I can't say anything about her accent as mine is from Northern Ireland and still broad after 35 years in Oz but when I go back to visit NI everyone asks me why I'm putting on the Aussie accent.

@@ElGordo1959 ha ha!! Wise the Bap like!! Wonder will Van the Man ever make it back over this way? Jeff Beck played on one of his recent albums 'Roll With The Punches '- he turned it from a very good album into a great one with his playing. Love a bit of Van too though I must say - another legend... wonder how much longer he'll be with us? They're dropping like flies... I'm still reeling from David Bowie's death a few years ago... not to mention Ronnie Corbett's! 👍

One smart lady. What a joy.
Tal Wilkenfeld is the most beautiful bass player that has ever existed, and she happens to be ultra-talented. I'd rather listen to her on bass than just about anyone except Aaron Mills (Cameo), Marcus Miller or Bernard Edwards (Chic)

What? Jaco Pastorious, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, John Entwhistle these men could make Tal Wailkenfeld look like an amateur. Look she's ok, I see her play with Jeff Beck, ok, she can play but let's be honest just cause she can hold down a groove, doesn't maker her , ah dee da great bass player, she's not even close to these men. It's a farce to even think so! Dweezil Zappa's not Frank Zappa this interviewers a clown.
She is so awesome.
She's incredible!
Tal needs to listen to Chris Squire's work, ( like on Yours is no Disgrace) or John Entwistle from the Who. Just for the influence . Tal is amazing .
She's a special gal...WOW!!!😘😍
you're absolutely amazing Tal!

Great interview and loved hearing how the other bass player mentors really encouraged her. Fantastic experience playing with all those amazing musos.
Just found this interview..... Tal Wilkenfield, such a f a n t a s t i c young musician between the greatest artists in our musical world but... also, such a lovely person :-))
she still needed to be told she was good. I guess some of the best we never heard gave up early, she is lucky people cared, and she knew how to work.
Brilliant album great musician
Super interview--thanks!!!
Great interview all around!

Boys and girls, her successful career is not indicative of how difficult, it not impossible, it is to attain. Not to take anything away from her incredible talent, she has been more than lucky. The stars have aligned in her favor.
Reallly fantastic interview! She's my very favorite Bassist next to Tony Levin!

Love this girl x
What a delightful person !
I came here to watch this interview after watching the Killing me video like three times without knowing who she was. The first time I watched it was like a week ago and I liked it.

So gifted and charming
Probably to her benefit she wasn’t that familiar with tons of old music. She’s totally unique and awesome. Love her playing and her album.
I am a Big fan of this lady! She is a world class Bass player , the reason I go to her concerts!!! . The song writing is good Singing" OK". Her roots are bass playing!!!! . At her school they changed her to bass !!! Your gift, God given talent TaL is rooted with the bass Guitar .. In My option Good Luck to you Young Lady! Only your true fans will level with You !!!! Yes I agree reading Music is a Must in your Biz ..this is not the 60's !! Love the Line .. On your worst day...... that's help me with my Music too thanks
Moving when being like 16. She still looks like teenager to me.
I have a dream. My dream is that someday I will watch an interview conducted by someone who realizes that they are not the SUBJECT of the interview and shut the FUCK up when the person they're interviewing tries to say something or is already talking. Kudos to Tal for mostly just walking right over this idiot. She's pretty impressive all around.

Stunningly beautiful and stunningly talented.
Such an enchanting creature...
i just love her~ cheese so beautiful and talented!
Such an appealing person and a musical legend already
I liked her first and I like this new one. But her strong points are with a bass in her hands and I like the sound of her Roger Sadowsky basses The Sadowsky Sound got her this far I believe.

why am I watching this on January, 1st. But can't stop.
a deep well of creativity
Great lass. Interesting in her mention of 'bass greats' - I never heard of any of them, probably because I only know of the folks who were more famous in bands. How about Paul McCartney, Sting, Jack Bruce, Noel Redding. Like me, Sting played in a three piece band he said he came to the conclusion that 'less is more' as a musician. I wonder how many reading that will understand it?
Great interview with Tal, but it is kind of appalling she had to school the interviewer about Anthony Jackson!!

Let's not forget another young Phenom ..... Kings opening act ! KIDS ... HUH (?) GO FIGURE -lol- Tal is somewhat different. I've been watching you for years you really really enjoy playing so sad about Jeff Beck I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on playing with him love you keep on doing what you're doing
Well, for the last 60 years Paul has been playing bass and singing at the same time. Not an entirely new thing, but it is a remarkable skill. You have to be born with it.
