Takom's Mk I Female Assembly and Weathering Process

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Overview of the process of assembling, painting, and weathering a 1/35 Mk I Female tank from WWI. This is not a step-by-step instructional video...just an overview of the main steps involved.
If you are thinking of buying this kit, this video should get you familiar with the basic assembly process as well as what's possible for detail and weathering.
This Takom kit creates a very detailed final build. The molds are crisp with a lot of detail and the final product is top notch quality. Some of the assembly processes are not very user-friendly however. The design-for-assembly on some of the sub-assemblies is pretty tedious and leaves you scratching your head on why it was designed the way it was. The brightest spot is the tracks. Wonderful design...individual track links that just snap together and look extremely realistic!
Overall a great kit but will require some model building experience to assemble properly.
NOTE: The home-brewed steel color used for the tracks was a mixture of all Tamiya paints... two different shades of gray of which for the life of me I cannot remember (one lighter and one darker, I know that), red brown (XF-64), flat black, and hull red...all mixed until I got the color that I saw in my mind. Not scientific, but effective I guess.

Absolutely wonderful modelling work as always your skills inspire to improve my modelling ability. I am working on the Emhar WW1 MKIV MALE Tank 1/35 Scale kit 4001 which is not as detailed but is going into a larger display so really good to see yours for the final work ideas on chipping and painting. Thanks again for sharing

Nice job! Was this paint scheme from any particular battle? It seems most Somme tanks were camouflage scheme.

It wasn't modeled after a particular unit or time frame. Just used a reference scheme from a similar one in a museum. I'm positive it's not 100% accurate for this tank in theater. Thanks much!

I purchased 2 different Takom WW1 kits, and both were not good builds. Too many gaps that were too big for putty to fill. I've switched to other companies for my hobby, AFV Club, Meng, among others.

Looks great but I'm not a fan of the 'Picture Snapped Video' style. It just seems boring and shows nothing of how it was done. Just a "here it is after I did something you won't see" kind of thing. Boring. Which is a pity as it seems you have great skill.

I do understand and that's fine. As I said in my response to your comment on one of the other videos, my goal has never been to produce boring hour-long step-by-step instructional videos, just overviews for people who want a quick video of a particular topic build. I do have a couple "instructional" videos in the works for particular techniques, but as for complete builds, it's not my thing. I enjoy building and photography and like to share what I do. That's all these are.

Blue tack, use decent glue! that Tamiya liquid stuff is absolute rubbish.
