Taking the 737 International | Puerto Vallarta
On this turn we took the 737 from PHX all the way down south to Mexico. We then quick turned and headed to rainy Orange County. Landing the 737 into Orange County can be tricky because it's a short runway, adding the rain element on top of that adds another level of complexity!
Hope you all enjoy it. Cheers!

Love your videos BigErn, Captain will come I never thought I would make it to the left seat and now I look back and realize that it seems like it happened along time ago and that just translates to the fact that Im getting old....heck I never thought that we would be using iPads and have a bad back thanks to the many forests that gave up there services for my charts back in the day....... stay safe

Hey Cap Ern thanks again for sharing another day of work for you, a familiar voice for me on delivery frequency at Puerto Vallarta (my home town airport) although there has not been much flying for me lately since they brought a Cessna Caravan for the winter season…., hope to some day be able to meet you and say Hi to you …! Mr. Ern...I would like your to explain from a pilots veiw, the issues initially with the 737 Max. I enjoy your enthusiasm for your career at Southwest. Thanks!
Happy new year
That Delta gate did well by me 2 days before Christmas. I was the very first person in line for security at the gate at 8am. Sorry to confess, I didn't use Southwest for my flight back to the NY area though. I mean you did talk bad about LaGuardia in last video. LOL! Just kidding that wasn't the reason I didn't use Southwest. My car was in Newark. Congratulations Captain Larry. Enjoy retirement!

HI ERN NOT A PILOT MY DREAM OF BECOMING A PILOT WAS CUT SHORT IN THE SEVENTIES WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS COLOR BLIND IN AUSTRALIA IN THOSE DAYS THAT WAS THE END OF BECOMING AN AIRLINE PILOT .So your videos are so great it's as close to flying as I can get , I did get a flight deck visit in a 747 on a Qantas flight to L.A in 1997 before terrorism changed everything ,and I do a 737 simulator occasionally which is fun .So thank you for your flight deck videos you pilots are very special people . Cheers from an australian aviation geek
Hey Ern! Any chance I could ask for a video in the future on what your reserve rules are, and the typical life of a reserve Pilot at Southwest. Appreciate all you do keep up the good work.

1:46 the plane comes from the hangar by taxiing and not a tug. never seen this.but the question is: does the guy in the cockpit need a pilots license for taxiing only or has some maintenance crew also the license for taxi

Doesn't PHX have U.S. Customs. Why the stop in SNA for customs?
Hey Ern, what is your opinion on the crash that took place just outside of Gallespie airport?
What does it mean when on your read back you said "right turn 270 at the 250 dme" for your departure. Happy new year to you and happy flying. Keep it up and hopefully this year you can get another strip!!!

Hey Ern! Happy new year and great video as always. You may remember, but I’m a student pilot and my dream job is Southwest. After my Private license I will be applying to Destination 225. I am about 5 flights away from my Private Pilot Checkride. Do you have any advice? Thanks

Congratulations to Captain Larry on an amazing 34 years in the sky!!!!😁😁 When you fly back in the country and have to hop off the plane to clear customs do you have to take you luggage off for customs and then bring it back on the plane??
Congrats Capt Larry! What a great career. Curious what a 4 digit represents.
@bryceleinan
2 жыл бұрын
Tells you the longevity in an organization. Where I work, a 4 digit has at least 20, if not 30 years in. Even 10 years in, my 5 digit number is relatively low.
@SidestickPilot

Means he’s been there a minute and is very senior.
Man I freakin wish to see the flying part. Why do they restrict that... to hide from FAA or something?
Another great one Ern. I know you said Capt Larry has been there for 34 years but I still don't understand the "4 digit" thing. Im just curious what exactly are the 4 digits referring to? 😆 Happy New Year to you and yours....fingers crossed you end it with 4 stripes!!!

Are you concerned about the 5G network can cause problems with the plane computers?
Ern, you mentioned when the PHX base expands you hope to still be there as a Capt not FO. Does that mean after your upgrade you could be subject to assignment to another crew base?
@N1120A
2 жыл бұрын
If he wants to hold a decent schedule as a captain, he may have no choice but to commute to a more junior base.

Correct. Most likely a commute to LAX or OAK would be my guess. Hopefully for not too long🤞🏽

@@FlyingwithBigErn you going to use the Cirrus or just non rev? I've always heard OAK is a pretty junior base for you guys, but how does LAX stack up? I didn't even know WN had opened one there.
Happy new year! I have a question who taxis the aircraft from the maintance hanger or does a tug take it?
@Tahanus7
2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the airport. At msp the airport issues "taxi liscences" to mechanics who will either drive it under power or drag it over with a tug
@FlyingwithBigErn

Great question. Usually our mechanics who are checkout for taxi do it. They do have the option to tug it was well.
