I have the MK3 which I must admit, is a pretty cool unit. The one thing I noticed with the Octa-Switch MK3 was that every now and then, my rig would seem to lose the majority of its “balls”( no power, the drive would just not be there and we’d have to stop playing so I could drop power to the MK3 to get my sound back. I have no idea why it does that but it does. I decided to upgrade to “The Strip” last week. I ordered a brand new one and it arrived this past Thursday. I rewired my entire pedalboard to accommodate this device and damnit if it didn’t work. The “store” button would not accept any changes therefore making it impossible to program. The blue led would never flash. It heads back to the seller this week after the holiday weekend for a replacement. I hope the next one works properly. The idea of this unit is pretty straightforward and when working, is certainly a game changer.

One thing I did not see unless I missed it...a lot of these switcher/loopers have a Tuner output so you can mute your rig and tune up without everyone hearing you, then click off of it. I see there is a "Bypass/Mute" button, but don't see a Tuner output. Is this capability included in this unit? I'll have to pull the manual and check. Gotta get one of these units, but not happy with the cost. I think all electronics and micro-controlled, a unit like this could be had for $250-300 rather than $500...yikes!

No one has seems to mention what I’ve been wondering. Halfway through this one, but I don’t think he is going to either, ha ha. How many pedals can be used with this switcher? I would imagine each loop doesn’t mean one pedal. Which would leave just eight pedals. Seems pretty limiting, so probably not. Or perhaps, each loop could four or five pedals needed for that #1 patch/foot switch? Thanks! 😝🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸

@@PeteThorn yep I was thinking of asking the same thing. But that is the give and take of keeping a switcher simple. No delay or reverb spill over trails due to its simplicity of switching loops on and off. A Boss ES-8 is more sophisticated and can achieve the spill over seamlessly but you need to really dig into the menus to set the parameters correctly (carry over and patch change delay set to 0 ms). For some guitarist, all that digital control stuff is too much and they don't care about fx spill overs...then this carl martin is for them. I personally love delay and reverb trails when I switch...so I'll stick to those spillover fx switchers. cool vid bro🤘🏼

@@PeteThorn dip switches are obviously the cheapest way to configure a device. A programmable software solution that pairs the device with an IPAD would IMO be better than messing with tiny switches like I was programming my garage door opener or configuring a floppy disk drive for a commodore 64. Not to mention you could actually store/recall the different configurations instead of having to write them down in case of an accidental misconfiguration. Plus you could denote EXACTLY what each switch position does. I.e. blue channel. What is weird about that?

  • @PeteThorn

You are sort of missing the point of this pedal I think though. Carl Martin doesn’t make any digital anything. It’s all analog pedals/switchers, with an emphasis on true bypass, simplicity etc. It’s a different product for a different kind of player that just wants a simple strip and some simple programmability. There are folks out there that don’t want to know about apps iPads, re-ordering LOOPS etc. they just want a simple strip that they can plug the pedals into - it’s just a different kind of product for a different kind of guitar player. All kinds of folks out there, you know? Just understand the whole philosophy of the company is sort of to stay all analog, and more old-school.

@@PeteThorn Yep...I totally was missing it. Not familiar with any carl martin products. I ditched stomp boxes decades ago for convenience and less cable clutter. Honestly I was surprised when the whole boutique pedal craze started happening. To each their own...you are correct. I was just taking your demo at face value. If that's the company philosophy then I can see the appeal to analog purists since an analog switch is required with an analog signal. You have to understand how watching you demo a state of the art digital Eventide through a product using tiny dip switches didn't convey the whole analog culture thing and threw me for a loop.(pun intended) Plus it does use Musical Instrument Digital Interface technology. That being said....Great product! Garage Door opener purists REJOICE! 😂 Btw I do enjoy your videos so don't think for a minute I'm just trying to troll you brother.
