Just in case you are in need of a bit more, if you love this sound as much as i do, hunt down someone who will sell you their free copy of Eventide Octavox from 2016 (otherwise its $200). Or Quadravox for half the voices and half teh price (and a lot more free copies out there) You can start with this pedal as a live effect, and get really wild with octavox's 8 voices (vs 2 of the pedal) when you go ITB. Its one of the real unappreciated gems because it can go so wild, but if you know what youre looking for it can really easily do some great classic effects like this. I find octavox 's 8 voices useful cos with 9 inc dry you get he original sound and 2 side pitches, a first pitched echo and 2 side micropitches, and a distinct pitched echo and 2 side pitches. This lets you do stuff like a delay an octave down and then up, or general octaver effects, with micropitch width.

  • @edcollins9377

CHEESY? What in the hell does that word really mean? Are we talking about Swiss or Cheddar? A couple of months ago, somebody else was talking about Eddie Van Halen and said they loved his first 5 albums, but couldn't stand the "cheesy mid-80's Van Hagar garbage". Is the early stuff less cheesy than the later stuff? Perhaps, any sound that warbles is cheesy? Which is more cheesy, VH debut or VH 5150? Why? TheGgreen100 thinks "Pretty Woman" is more cheesy than "Top of the World". Which is more Cheesy "Running with the Devil" or "Panama"? "Unchained" or "Without You"? Personally, I don't like the word cheesy unless i'm describing Justin Bieber or Leif Garrett or Tony DeFranco. I appreciate all types of effects whether it be static chorusing or chorusing with warble. Sometimes a particular effect will get overused and people tire of it and say it is cheesy. But sooner or later, it becomes popular again. I remember when the Yamaha DX7 came out and people thought it was the greatest synth ever, The DX7 was the shit and The Minimoog and Prophet 8 sounded cheesy. Today, the DX7 is probably considered the most cheesy synth that was ever made.

@@TheGgreen100 Oooh! It looks like I singed a nerve!!!! Just a brief reminder that you were the one who threw the first "tantrum" when you hurled the first of your lame insults. I simply stated that the word cheesy is vague and often meaningless (since it is open to interpretation). Rational people shouldn't get their panties in a wad over harmless comments. Since it seems that the word rational may not apply here, I have a suggestion. Go lie down on your couch and take a turn at trying to psychoanalyze yourself instead of others. A word of caution ... Don't be surprised if ol' Siggy reveals that "you can dish it out but can't take it".

I have a Katana 50 amp and one of the built in stomps is a 2 voice pitch shifter that can do what this Eventide does. I never knew it even existed until checking after watching this video. I dialed in +5/-5 cents, run my MXR EVH 5150 stomp into the amp input--wow, the tone is nearly dead-on! More than close enough for less than $500 in gear.

You can do a similar thing with a pedal like Boss's PS-6 Harmonist pedal in "detune" mode. Put after distortion with a stereo spread into two amps it's the "poor man's" way to achieve a tone similar to Ed's during the mid to late 80s' / early 90s.

Awesome, Pete. Sounds so great. I love your tracks, as well. The second iso clean guitar track’s chord choices are beautiful. And, Good Grief! Curt is just a monster. One of my favorite drummers. I want that pedal. I should buy that pedal. I will then reconfirm the need for me to get back to woodshedding. Anyway, great job, Pete. I hope you get back on the road real soon. Ask Curt to go with you. Rock On!

The Helix HX FX that I have has a 'dual pitch' on it and I have to say that the "+/- 9 cents in stereo works like a charm.

I'm an Eeventide customer and supporter so as it happens for those in the same condition they mail me direct when there's something new in the pipeline. So that I was invited to have a look at a first YT demo ...after 5 minutes I decided to ditch the idea of this pedal. PT's is the second demo and ....wow ....that's a totally different story and this pedal is indeed worth of consideration now. :-)

I like that “Can’t Get This Stuff No More” by Van Halen vibe on your opening song. For a more modern tone, mixed with classic VH, those two songs, including “Me Wise Magic”, were the sound that I wished VH would have continued on with. It sounded a lot better than “A Different Kind Of Truth” and just … more classic Van Halenish, and Ed’s tone was rippin’ on them. We could almost hear the wood of his guitars, like the old days. Great video, great explanations.
