    Hi Michael, thanks for doing this video. I'm an M1, D1 20W Pro and soon to be P2 owner. I appreciate you doing this. I use your spreadsheet for your M1 settings. Happy Easter to you and your family!

    Hi Michael, I'm an M1 user (I love it) and I'm no techie, so at some stage can you highlight some of the usable differences between this and the M1 (aside from the larger work area which was pretty cool) as to why the P2 would be a good fit for a home craftsperson like myself. Most of the stuff I make is in 3mm balsa or MDF although I do want to branch out into acrylics once I've worked out how it's done. Does this model cut thicker materials? And I know, silly question, but how does the rotary work if the machine wants that tray in place. So curious, and will be watching for more. Thank you for the great content.

    Nice video (& I look forward to future videos for the P2, which I'm hoping to order soon) Thank you in advance. I'm a little confused about open plane/laser flat modes. From xTools specs I have the bed size at around 660x355mm. From your findings I have laser flat mode at around 595x300mm & open plane mode at around 495x245mm. Would I be correct in assuming bed size is the size that you can put material into (so material up to 660x355mm would fit into the machine when closed up) Laser flat mode is the area covered by the slats & open plane mode is the area without the slats (or visa versa, because I would have thought the area without the slats would be larger?) Is open plane mode the width that material can fit into when using the passthrough (so 495mm width by I think it was 8ft length?) I still need to work out the area the camera can see/show in the software

    Based on my tests, this is what I measured on my PRE-PRODUCTION machine so far. Bed Size: 27"×14.75" (685*375mm) (Physical limit inside machine) Processing Area Above Slats 23.5"×12" (597*305mm) (Laser Flat Mode) Processing Area Below Slats 19.625"×9.75" (498*248mm) (Open Plane Mode) Manual Pass Through Mode size limit is still to be determined Laser Conveyer Feeder Mode size limit is still to be determined Laser Flat Mode is what you will use when placing material on top of the slats inside the machine. Open Plane Mode is when you remove ALL slats and engrave on things including when your working with the rotary tool.

    You can run it without it. I went ahead and added it to mine using the smallest measurement they suggested however I bet I could have gotten by without it due to my average climate here.

    Thanks again for an informative video. I ordered the P2 and want to learn as much as I can on how to use it while I await it's arrival. I have never operated a laser before and I hear so much about different softwares. Which software do you recommend using (learning) with the P2? I want to start watching tutorials to not be totally lost...

    The P2 is compatible with xTool's free XCS software and with LightBurn (paid application). LightBurn is the industry standard when it comes to lasers. It is really powerful with amazing features. XCS is an xTool exclusive software that just started it's second year (I believe) of existence. XCS is the main software you will use when working with your P2. While LightBurn is compatible with the P2, you only get basic use of the p2 with it. With XCS you can take advantage of all the cool things the P2 offers (dual cameras, automatic and manual pass-through, contour of a shape, etc.). While you wait, I would recommend you have a look at my xTool M1 series of videos. It is focused more on the M1 laser but it does show a lot of XCS related content as well as discussing auto-focusing (something you do in the P2 as well). XCS still has a ways to go when it comes to designing so you will need to get familiar with outside vector design tools. Ill see if I can add more information about the subject in my upcoming videos. I need to remember that people watching the P2 series may not have any XCS software experience.

    El P2 no viene con accesorios. Debes comprarlos por separado. xTool tiene ofertas de paquetes disponibles que le permiten ahorrar dinero en esos accesorios en este momento. No, no es necesario llevar gafas porque está dentro de un recinto.

    Living in S California the temp gets really hot in the summer. Triple digits. I will be using this in my garage. Do you see a problem with this? Other lasers manufacturers said should be no problem with their lasers as long as the coolant was there kept up. Do you think this will be an issue with the p2.

  • @MonkeyWoodworks

    @MonkeyWoodworks

    That is a great question! You may reach out to xTool for that question. I am not a co2 expert and I am learning as I go along. I live in south Texas and it gets quite warm here as well. It will be interesting to see how it goes in the heat. Also, the P2 does not have a way to externally cool the tube from what I can tell so it looks like it is all up to the internal cooling of the fans.

    Paper yes, vinyl no. Unless the vinyl is specifically made to be cut by a laser, you need to use a blade to cut it like with a cricut or the xtool M1.

    What do you mean laser flat vs open plane,

  • @MonkeyWoodworks

    @MonkeyWoodworks

    Жыл бұрын

    Those modes are specific to the XCS software. It tells the software where the material is located so it knows how to handle the automatic focus. Laser Flat is used when the material is thin enough to be able to fit between the laser head and the slats . The auto-measure will measure the "thickness" of the material meaning how tall is it from the top of the slats to the top of the material. Open Plane is when you remove the slats and have the material anywhere inside the P2. It is used when you are engraving odd shaped items and things that will not fit between the top of the slats and the laser head. The auto-measure will measure the "distance" to the material meaning how far from the laser head is the top of the material.

    @@MonkeyWoodworks Thanks for the explanation. As someone new to this I thought the main factor is the distance between material and laser head to adjust the focal point. So I am still a little confused why this results in different working areas, but I guess there is a difference on how they determine the distance.

  • @MonkeyWoodworks

    @MonkeyWoodworks

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, it is all because of the XCS software and you telling it where the material is located. I believe it is a safety issue to help protect the laser head. Laser flat will NOT allow the laser head go below the slats whereas open plane will. However, you MUST make sure the slats are removed in Open Plane mode otherwise you could damage the P2. In Lightburn, you will also give it two different measurements depending on the material location. If the material is sitting on the slats it is one measurement. If the slats are removed, it is another measurement.
