Excellent work there Michel. The vehicle owner should be very pleased. It is sad that Bear lost his battle with cancer. He and I spoke nearly every week. When I had not heard from him in a bit I figured he was back in the hospital. I then got the news later that he passed away on March 12th. 😞

RIP Bear. That makeshift jig for the shaper worked well and how good is it that the mill has as much adjustment as it does to allow you to angle the table to where you want it. 👍

You did the right thing not cutting the keyway to full depth, as you said the casting was not very thick in that area. That was a clever setup on the shaper. As you say, cutting the slot is quick. The thing that takes the time is the setup. I did not know that your mill table can tilt. That can be very useful for some setups. The popping sound from your grinder is probably the brushes. I had similar sounds from my one and the brushers were worn and barely making contact.

It's possible on the lathe but the setup in the right angle could be a challenge.

When you first started the drum setup on the shaper, I though "that's going to be a bit sketchy!". Then you added the angled braces, and my opinion changed from "hmm" to "wow, that's brilliant and simple". Good job, and nice tribute.
