Imagination is the most powerful tool a craftsman has at his disposal. That set up on the shaper is imagination at its best. Simple and effective and got the job done. Well done sir.

Excellent work there Michel. The vehicle owner should be very pleased. It is sad that Bear lost his battle with cancer. He and I spoke nearly every week. When I had not heard from him in a bit I figured he was back in the hospital. I then got the news later that he passed away on March 12th. 😞

What a nice project Michel. Turned out great. I keep being impressed by how the Deckel has come to be a central part of your shop. But let's not forget that magnificent shaper. Yeah, I'm VERY envious. Have a great week my friend. Gilles

It's something in the switch. But because it's a cheap shit machine, I can't take it apart without breaking.

Those drums look very much like the early VW items. Good result, Nice one. Steve.

RIP Bear. That makeshift jig for the shaper worked well and how good is it that the mill has as much adjustment as it does to allow you to angle the table to where you want it. 👍

Hi Michel, nice tribute to Bear my friend. At last we have braking news of the finished project, and I am in awe of the setup to hold the drum on the shaper, it worked great. You did the right thing not cutting the keyway to full depth, as you said the casting was not very thick in that area. That was a clever setup on the shaper. As you say, cutting the slot is quick. The thing that takes the time is the setup. I did not know that your mill table can tilt. That can be very useful for some setups. The popping sound from your grinder is probably the brushes. I had similar sounds from my one and the brushers were worn and barely making contact.

Thanks. The problem with the angle grinder is in the switch. But I can't take it out without breaking the thing. Cheap junk...

Poor Bear. I will miss his updates and comments. I might have tried to cut the drum keyways on the lathe. Nice job. Cheers

When you first started the drum setup on the shaper, I though "that's going to be a bit sketchy!". Then you added the angled braces, and my opinion changed from "hmm" to "wow, that's brilliant and simple". Good job, and nice tribute.

A very neat solution to cutting the slot on the angle Michel. And it's a very good job that you have done to refurbish to better than new, the rear braking set up for your customers car. A big thumbs up from me!
