Nicely done, Michel! The dials came out great. It's always admirable watching someone turn scrap into something beautiful. Really looking forward to the rest of this project... I think you'll end up with an amazing, functional piece of art for your shop.

Thanks. I sure hope so. That's the plan.
I'm right there with you on using scraps or cut offs for projects, if it's just a piece of scrap or a cut off I don't have to worry about ruining an expensive piece of material if I screw something up. Coming together beautifully 👍👍

As I said, it takes away the stress part. And that's where we don't screw up :)
Making your own is the best feeling.

Damn, you ARE good. I didn't think that wood would work. I was envisioning your dial wrapped up around your drill bit like a piece of foil. Strong work, sir.

That engraving looks really good! When you're drilling sheet metal, one little trick to stop the drill grabbing or making a nasty burry hole is to put a small piece of cloth under the drill bit tip. The results are surprisingly good for such a simple trick.

G'day Rusty. I was glued to the seat, watching the various ways to hold down the plates. 😅😊😂 Excellent work marking the degree lines, etc. You are doing really well, will be good to see the finished product in operation.

Nice work on the dials Michel. One thing that I learnt from Mark Presling when drilling thin material is to use a piece of rag when drilling the material. The rag stops the item being pulled up by the drill when the drill breaks through the material, and it help to drill a round hole.

It certainly did! A hefty boost, and still gaining.
You made a very nice job of the dials Michel. I had to cut a circular plate of aluminium a while back. I fixed the plate to piece of wood with double sided tape, and held it against a faceplate on the lathe with a live centre. Then machined it to diameter. It worked ok. Cheers Nobby
