Ever wondered how the Japanese lived in rural areas 400-500 years ago? Then take a walk through Hida Folk Village in the mountains in Takayama where you`ll see perfectly preserved houses, community buildings, temples and barns.
This was such a gem of a place! You can skip visiting overcrowded Kyoto or super touristy Shirakawa-go and just come straight to Takayama!
Besides the Hida Fold Village, the town has a beautifully preserved old center, full of historic buildings, shops, temples, restaurants, etc. It felt so relaxing here despite tourists. Its remote location in the middle of the mountain range makes it sure there aren`t too many and on top of that you get beautiful views and super crisp air! We absolutely loved it!
