This is a simplified full version of BaDuanJin, officially approved by the National General Administration of Sports of China, demonstrated by the Ba Duan Jin China national champion Zhang Qi. This set of BaDuanJin is also taught by and demontrated by Yang BaiLong. It is also very good and you can find it on KZread.
English voice and subtitle are added now to help English speakers.
BaDuanJin ( Eight section Brocade, eight Pieces of Brocade, 8 Silken Movements, or 8 Silk Weaving) is one of the most popular Chinese Qi Gong Form. It has been used for around 1000 years to improve health. This form has eight separate sections; each section can help a different physical area and Qi Meridian to improve health. It is very easy to learn and very convenient to practice.

Chinese-style exercises such as Tai Chi and Baduanjin have become popular among patients during the novel coronavirus outbreak, and have been recommended by medical experts to ordinary people to improve physical strength for all ages.
Many patients whose lung function level was only 20 to 30 percent of that of a normal person. But by continuing to take medicine, walking, and practicing Tai Chi and BaDuanJin, the patients' movement was greatly enhanced and some were even able to climb a mountain.
For epidemic prevention and control, people are currently being advised to stay at home.
To help people strengthen the body and develop a healthy lifestyle, the General Administration of Sport of China recently recommended a list of indoor exercises. Tai Chi, Baduanjin, and other traditional Chinese-style exercises are on the list.
"The key is perseverance. It's better to practice every day," Zhang Boli, general counsel to Wuhan's Dahuashan makeshift hospital and president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine said. He also suggested ordinary people practice according to one's abilities and advance gradually in due order.

Please pay attention the following two items, which are not easy to be captured from the video. Others are very easy to follow. Section 2. Draw the Bow to Shoot the Eagle - When you cross your hands to shoot to left, put left hand in front of (outside) right hand. - When you cross your hands to shoot to right, put right hand in front of (outside) left hand. This way is natural and easy to do. Closing position - Hold palms in front of abdomen. For men, left hand is inside; For women, right hand is inside. (I just added these information to the subtitles also for reminder).

Upon the request of audience, the breathing method (inhale/exhale/hold breath) is added to the video. Please turn on subtitle to watch it. As Health Qigong, correct breathing is essential: - Inhale abdominally through your nose , slowly and completely. - Exhale through your mouth or nose, slowly and completely. - In case of breathlessness, no need to insist. - Adjust the speed of your movements to match your breathing. - Holding breath is needed for some moments (you will find in the video).

Hello, I am glad that you meet the beauty of QIGong. Your feeling is completely correct and QI is circulating much better in your body so you feel better. The persons, who are surffering from some diseases such as stagnation of liver, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, back pain, etc., can feel the effect of QiGong very soon and very strongly. However, if a person has no much uncomfortable, he or she may not be able to feel the effect quickly. Qigong is designed to help the Qi circulating better. In our daily life we have no chance to do the actions similar in QiGong (for example, separate heaven and earth) . QiGong can also help your “Conscientious” rest and activate your "soul" work. The conscientious help your struggling in the world, and the soul takes care of your body. When your conscientious relax and soul take control, it knows how to repair your body automatically. That's why when you do the QiGong, you can breath much deeper than before. One breath is a small cycle of Yin/Yang, then day and night, summer and winter are bigger cycles of Yin and Yang. Each cycle is better, your body will be better. As a beginner, no need to think about too much of breath. Just focus your mind on Dan Tian and you will improve your way of breath naturally. It is safe to focus on Dan Tian (lower abdomen) and practise by yourself. Please avoid focusing your mind on your head, otherwise, too much QI may rush in the head and you don't know how to control it.

Proper breathing found in Tai chi, yoga, and qigong calms the parasympathetic nervous system and can ease symptoms of anxiety. Many people who suffer with anxiety suffer many symptoms BECAUSE the release of adrenaline and cortisol causes their breathing to become rapid and shallow, exacerbating the feelings of panic in a negative loop. Breathing deeply into the tan Tian or area about three finger widths below your belly button and expanding your rib cage to the sides (sounds odd but comes with practice) is deeply calming just by itself. To truly relax (when feeling edgy or before sleep) breath in slowly like this for the count of 3-5, then exhale slowly for a count of 6-10. Just the breathing part of qigong is very helpful but the exercises, done correctly, will also help to balance the flow of Qi in your body, and enhance circulation. If you can, find a good teacher...I believe the benefits will be real.

Thank you very much for posting this. I found this wonderful video yesterday. I have been practicing for a few weeks on and off after a false start pre pandemic and really do want to keep this up and make it part of my daily life. I have been using the practice video posted by eight pieces and as I have now got the breathing in the right order would like to start learning this set. I also notice this is very similar to the version posted by Jun Liang who uses the same music. Jun does a very nice demonstration of one of each piece at the beginning of her video which is amazing to watch as one piece flows in to the next. Drawing the bow is quite difficult for a beginner but I can now see left foot out, left hand in front, left hand is the arrow and the opposite for right. I think I may be able to make some progress now. Do you perhaps know the name of the music? It would be great if you would consider posting a version with no prompting and just music for people to follow once we no longer require the prompts. Something to aim for ! Again thank you very much for posting this very clear to watch and understand demonstration.

If you don't have private teacher to guide you face to face, I suggest you start with nature breathing. Gradually you will find the good way for breathing. Please avoid "force yourself breathing".

    1) Many thanks for this demo. I started ba duan jin and zhan zhuang in 2018 and have practiced both daily (at home) ever since. In 2020 I began tai chi. There are no teachers nearby so I self-teach from KZread videos and books. I try to notice obvious faults in my form and correct them. I know my form is not very good but just the same the health and (mental and physical) fitness benefits are remarkable. I do 1-4 and 7-8 pretty much as this video shows, and 5-6 very differently. I will try the video's versions of all 8. 2) Question: All 3 exercises (especially zhan zhuang) can cause very pleasant sensations. Like a buzz, or tingling, or shivering. Sometimes just in the back of my head, sometimes also in my neck and upper back. Never happened before I started these exercises. What is that sensation and what are its effects? 3) If I close my eyes during zhan zhuang the buzz sometimes spirals up my spine, always counterclockwise. Also with eyes closed, it sometimes seems there is motion above my head, always clockwise. With either if I focus on the feeling it stops.

  • @tcmshunshun

    @tcmshunshun

    2 жыл бұрын

Hello, the feeling of "buzz, or tingling, or shivering" is the QI Gong effect. Your body is being healed. Tingling is due to this reason: before the blood cannot circulate well in some parts, now after doing QiGong, the blood is coming more than before. But currently, it cannot go smoothly so you will feel tingling. The head, neck, and back are the most common areas for blood stagnation, so people often feel the qigong effect in these areas. I often do Acupuncture in these areas for my patients to remove pain. The theory is the same.

@@tcmshunshun Thank you very much for the advice and the offer. I will write you an email. I do focus on my belly, and on my feet. They seem to be connected. Many times when I inhale and my belly rises the soles of my feet contract upwards in the middle, as if pulled by a cord running from my belly down the back of my legs. This is true all day, not just when practicing zhan zhuang. I used to practice zhan zhuang for endurance, up to an hour at a time. Now I do not go for time, just for feeling. Many of the precepts I apply 24/7 - the belly breathing, the tongue placement, mindfulness, relaxation, being quiet, observing, sensing, rooting. Even in bed, or in the shower. It is becoming second nature rather than a practice.

Hello Ciel, normally we always follow this order for all sections: Left->Right, Right->Left. Even for "section 5. Rotate the Head and Sway the Buttocks to Expel the Heart Fire", it starts to move a little bit right to be able to rotate to the left, so its true purpose is also to start from left. This order is by convention. If you would like to practice following the video like mirror, it doesn't matter and just do it. Also for the times, normally I don't count it by memory. I would like to do many times as long as I would like to move to the next section.

In case of disc bulge, you shall do the exercise gently. Some actions, such as "twist the waist” can be difficult to you, then you can skip them and do others. Ba Duan Jin can help you improve the energy in general so it will help on disc bulge. I treat the pain of waist with acupucture for many people and it works very well. I suggest you find a doctor locally and remove the waist problem and do Ba Duan Jin to keep the health.
