If I were to to live at your country that's the first thing I will do, learn spanish. So I'll have more friends out there, I heard most Mexicans are friendly and so I can enjoy more of my stay there...

Watching this as a Filipino with a Mexican blood but I'm not fluent in Spanish. I think Spanish is the easiest language to learn as a Filipino. This video could teach me basic Spanish.

México, Guatemala, Perú, Ecuador and Bolivia. They have a lot of indigenous descendants(Native American), more than 50% of the population. There are also countries with more African descent, such as the countries of the Caribbean and Central America. And also countries with more population descendants of Europeans: Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile. But they can still be found in any Latin American country, only some have more percentages than others.

I remember my history professor in college discussing how intimate the cultural exchange between Filipinos and Mexicans are because of the Galleon trade. When the Philippines was still under Spanish rule via the Viceroy of Mexico, ships would make stops here and some Filipinos would get on and get off in Mexico and vice versa. For sure, there is some Mexican lineage in some of us Filipinos, and some Filipino lineage in some Mexicans. Both are beautiful cultures and both are victims of the oppression and silencing of the Spanish colonial conquest.

The Tlascatecas, great friends and allies of the Spanish, a people they love and their complete trust, did not help the Spanish to "explore" the Philippines. They went directly to explore and conquer them. And of course, they received their prize: those who wanted remained there as conquerors. If they behaved like a good Spanish warrior, they were treated like a good Spanish soldier. What they deserved. They never failed us. Admirable people from Tlascala.

Los filipinos que vienen a vivir a España al poco tiempo empiezan a hablar un español con un acento perfecto, es impresionante. Creo que la semejanza desconocida entre el español y el tagalo hace que los filipinos aprendan español muy rápido y con un acento estupendo.

Almost all the words you mentioned are borrowed words and not Tagalog. Nobyo is not Tagalog - Kasintahan is, not Asul but bughaw, and so much more.

Definitely. Many loanwords are in the fabric of many Filipino languages now, that Filipinos would not even know the Tagalog word for it. Similarly, many English words are now used in Tagalog, Filipinos subconsciously talk in Taglish without realizing it.

​@@alanguages If you speak taglish, that is not Tagalog but rather you're speaking Filipino. Tagalog language does not permit burrowed words. Malamang sa malamang, kapag ang iyong mga salita ay malalalim at makaluma lamang, ikaw ay talagang nagtatagalog. . As my prof puts this, Filipino is an amalgamation of language. It's based on Tagalog construct but can dynamically use any Pilipino Languages such as Bisaya, Kapangpangan and more (not dialect, language.) as well adapt foreign words and write it in a Filipino way.

@@gorudentakoyaki8993 I agree but I wouldn't say "very very wrong". Sure it is a little bit wrong, but it's not wrong in the context. Context being we often and mistakenly say "Tagalog" when we meant "Filipino", but that's accepted. . Filipino Language is more of context driven rather than word meaning and grammar. This is a trait we share with fellow Asians like the Japanese and Chinese. . I can't say anything about the Mexican though. I may have heard some people that Mexican Spanish is different from Spanish, Argentian Spanish and etc. But, I am not well knowledgeable on that to be credible.

I’m a Mexican American who speaks English and Spanish.. My girlfriend is from Mindanao. Hopefully one day I can live in Philippines. I had a chance to visit for 2 weeks and I loved it.

i just realized that cebuano has more spanish than tagalog. sad to say. we say eskina as corner and máni as peanuts.

What's super interesting about this video is that it conforms to historical sources. The variety of spanish brought over to the phillipines, the type that snuck into Tagalog Came from Mexico(New Spain in those days) Some of those words have a different meaning in the rest of latin america and indeed Spain :)

Alcalde is an Arabic al-qaḍi word in origin(قاضي), meaning judge. It was borrowed by the Spanish. Just like the word Alcohol. It was later applied as Mayor or Alcalde Mayor.

Stinky Llama but it’s not only Spanish na naka influence sa language natin. May malay din at nakalimutan ko na ung iba. Sana d ako natulog sa history class dati haha! But kidding aside even indonesian word na sinta is the same sa atin maybe cinta sa indo. And even english. Dami kasi nag colonize sa Pinas. But, it would really be helpful kung pati baybayin tinuturo sa school if ever d man naituro. ☺️

I am from Zamboanga City. We speak Chavacano here. Very close to spanish. When I watch El Chapo, Money Heist, Narcos, or other Spanish series, I pretty much understand what they say. Our history contributes a lot from this similarities between our dialect and their language. Ariba!

I enjoyed this one. Most words are not Tagalog in nature but borrowed words from Spanish but with different spelling. I guess we Filipinos tend to make words easier to pronounce that's why there are a bit difference in spelling from Spanish words.

Chavacano is closer to Spanish than Tagalog although Tagalog have also adopted some of Spanish words.

Well said. I have a lot of friends came from Zamboanga. They're native who uses chavacano. They were taught Spanish in a short period of time because they just have to learn the correct construction of grammar, conjugation, and some Spanish words. Not only that, parang 75% sa call center department ng company namin chavacano.

Yes we have Spanish words in our language, but Filipino and Spanish and for sure Mexican, are completely different cultures. In *Filipino. Keep in mind, Tagalog and Filipino are two separate languages. Tagalog language does not permit foreign words but Filipino does.

In Ilonggo (visayas) more than million spanish words if you include counting.

there are hundreds of Spanish words in Visayan too such as mercado, alegre, eskina is widely used in visayan provinces, karsones (pants), dulce, etc..

The word Mani is an Arawak word of the Taino aborigines of the Caribbean region. The Spaniards used it for the word peanut and the Aztec's word is cacahuate which is only used in Mexico, but the Spaniard used mani in the Philippines. There are a lot of words in the Philippines that use Spanish words, just spelled differently.

1) The Friars kept the Spanish to make the people ignorant. Ignorant people = easy to manipulate 2) They don't want the Filipinos to tell Spain that they have been treated badly 3) They removed Español as one of the national languages (they replaced it with English). The Spanish Empire got what it did.

iateaplumandifeelweird Actually, the well-off Filipinos (not only insulares but mestizos) spoke Spanish. The problem is the poor didn't have required schooling unlike during the American period, so most didn't learn. Of course, the Americans would teach us English not Spanish. Likewise, in some provinces before TV and radio became common, most uneducated Filipinos could not speak Tagalog. FYI, Spanish is still an official language of the Philippines.

@@krdiaz8026 It (the Spanish language) was at first removed in 1973 by a constitutional change, but after a few months it was re-designated an official language by presidential decree and remained official UNTIL 1987, with the present Constitution re-designating it instead as an "optional and voluntary language" (citation, wikipedia) Also, I'm talking about why the Philippines still CAN speak indigenous languages, and NOT about Filipinos NOT speaking Spanish (or a version of it), which some Filipinos do speak. (For example, Chavacano).

Bisaya mostly uses spanish word. We don't know its a spanish bcoz we thought it was just a bisaya word.

More so in Ilonggo dialect, so much more Spanish words😄

Hello very interesting info about how similar our languages are. I know that's because the Phillipines were once part of The New Spain, wich included all the mexican territory, Central America, the South of the USA and Florida, being Mexico City it's capital Saludos desde México!

Hay similitudes entre los dos países. Por ejemplo la pelea de gallos ( fight rooster) llegó a México desde filipinas. La guayabera en español (barong, talagog).

We have a lot of words the same as Spanish but Filipinos pronounced them differently that makes it sound different to people who speaks authentic Spanish. Try to converse with them in Spanish and you’ll be lost, knowing some words is one and knowing to make conversation is another. Acá en México también, pero igual canto se usa más que como esquina como el lateral de algún objeto. Ej: cuando a un preso se le toma la foto policial de perfil le pueden decir... Ponte de canto.... Algo así, saludos España!!

"Tonto" is used by the rich people with horses...they will remove their gloves and use it to slap their servants and say "Tonto!"....like in marimar

Tonto is often used by Ilonggos but the meaning is not dumb. Tonto in hiligaynon means more like "stubborn".

If you want to learn bisaya dialect especially here in Mindanao, You may also learn other foreign languages like Malay and Indo and of course Spanish..those are the outshoot language.. we use it in a daily basis. Like limpio, and in counting uno dos tres diez onse dose treze..quatro cientos

La palabra "canto" existe en español, pero se usa más en libros y en el habla usamos más "borde, filo, orilla (edge or end)". "Libre" ha pasado al español quizá por influencia del inglés en ciertas frases como "barra libre" que en un bar significa que las bebidas son "gratis". "Chuchería" puede ser cualquier cosa sin valor, sean objetos o comida sin valor nutritivo. Eric la palabras "tianguis", "palenque" y "jícama", son palabras de origen mexicano que también se utilizan en tagalog y que podrías usar en futuros videos que hagas. Una sugerencia personal: en lingüística se aconseja preguntar a personas de diferentes edades y lugares porque las generaciones y regiones cambian, en este caso el entrevistado es joven y quizá no conozca muchas palabras que se usaban antes o no se usan en su región o su vocabulario no es tan amplio como el de un adulto mayor, y cuando el entrevistado es un adulto mayor, entonces resulta al revés, quizá conozca muchas palabras o de varias regiones pero no palabras nuevas de tecnología o que anden de moda. Palanque tb es una palabra española antigua q viene del Arabe!...en Andalucia existe esa palabra y concretamente hay un lugar q se llama plaza del palenque en Sevilla!

That’s awesome. I’m learning Spanish and I have came across a lot of Tagalog words that are Spanish. A lot of the words are changed and spelled a bit different. For sample. Siempre in Spanish is always .......... syempre in Tagalog is of course. Mierculos in Spanish And Tagalog is miyerkules. I like the proper spelling in Spanish.

@@deadhungry2929 I am only saying that we, mga bisaya, mas marami kaming na retain na mga spanish word na ginagamit ngayon kesa sa mga kapatid natin sa luzon. Pero hindi rin naman ako sure, opinion ko lang naman. Pero sure ako na hindi kami mga bobo. Hindi rin naman po tunay na spanish speaking ang taga Zamboanga. Basically, ang construction nga mga sentences nila ay pinoy na pinoy po. Yon nga lang mas marami silang spanish words na ginagamit as in marami kaya kaya masasabi mong spanish sila. Tsaka po ang pronunciations nila sa mga words hindi na man rin spanish. Tulad lang din naman kung paano i.pronounce ng mga bisaya at mga kapatid natin sa luzon. At again, hindi kami bobo.
