I love this brand, steeped in so much history. I attended my first GP with my dad in 1968, and was mesmerized by he presence that Heuer had in the sport, being the official timer of that race and on the wrists of my heroes Siffert and Rindt, and later Peterson. It was the beginning of a life-long dream to own one and, when I turned 60, my wife bought me the Jack Heuer 85th anniversary Autavia reissue, harking back to the gorgeous Jo Siffert watch. It was a long wait, but I simply could not be happier. Maybe when I turn 70 she will buy me a Carrera to complete my grail collection? 🙂

Great story, thanks for sharing. I think 65 would be a better age for the Carrera! I love the discontinued Autavia Heritage Chrono, but funds aren't allowing. 🤨

Say what you will, it’s a beauty. I love my TAG Carrera chrono. TAG does a great job.

I think TAG Heuer have been doing a lot right the last few years, between the historic inspired Autavia and Carrera reissues, their smartwatch offering, and the new Aquaracers. It is a brand with a great history which I feel is often unfairly slighted. They have had some poor designs in the past but who hasn't. Good to see them making intelligent decisions and hopefully the watch community will react positively.

Wow, as someone from Mexico it surely was a nice surprise to realize that the name was inspired by something from here. We might not have any outstanding watch brands or watchmakers from here (as far as I know) so it's nice to see that something watch related came from here, even if it was something as small as the name of a watch.

I love how you describe every in an easily digestible method. I love your videos and when I can, my next luxury watch will come from y’all!

First Tag ive seen and actually really like. I like the Panda dial the most though just easier to wear and a clean bracelet too

Since you’re in the TAG vein…I would definitely ask you to review the new red dial Carrera limited to 600 pieces that was released just this last week, or even the purple dial Monaco, or the new Monaco Gulf special edition(2022)… all housing the amazing, Heuer 02 movement. That said… I’d love to see you review the HEUER 02 Autavia flyback chrono. Preferably the silver, somewhat panda dial, but even the black case, black dial would do. Same movement…. Hopefully they’ll use it across the entire family soon. And I’m sure you know, but most people don’t realize that the Autavia was there before the Carrera. And the Heuer Autavia (2016-2017 release) was the introductory piece housing the Heuer 02 movement. At any rate, I’d love to hear your take on any of the above mentioned.

3 days ago I found out that these watches exists...Day after tomorrow I will collect them :-) Nice video about beautiful watches.

I picked up the red dial, Heuer 02 Carrera 1964. I took off the beautiful black leather strap, added the black rally strap and ‘bong’ pure magic.

The only thing I wish TAG Heuer did with this one is pay more attention to the small details. There are so many mirrored surfaces on the dial and you can clearly see the nice bright red hand from the top but reflected underneath is the unfinished and tarnished backside. That one small thing would drive me crazy.

Unfortunately this CAN BE SEEN! Unbelievable quality control. I hope this is just a demo, pre-production unit for the sake of saving grace for the SWISS horologers.

Tag Heuer has innovation in watch making, horology history and race history til this day. They have Iconic watches. Not many watch companies can compare.

Nice watch. I like some of the Monacos. This seems like a breezier look. Something about it just seems right for beach and water.

The red one release last week is amazing

Nice review of a nice watch with a good story, from a storied maker. And superlative photography, again per usual... But I got an eye-worm of the scurf and schmoo on the bottom of the second hand. Absolutely beneath consideration, and I wouldn't begrudge a penny I spent on one, had I pennies to spend on one. But, but, but...

I absolutely loved the look of this watch when it was released and really considered getting one. But the thickness kept me from going through with a purchase. I ended up getting a chance to get my original love (a speedy racing panda dial with the yellow accents) for a great deal and couldn’t be happier. Funny enough I think the speedy is a tad thicker overall but the case design seems to hide it better. It was a really close call though, since the Montreal really is an awesome watch with a great aesthetic.

Fantastic watch. I totally agree about the strap. It just doesn't work. Unfortunately, at 19mm, changes are not so simple.

Check out the ROUE TPS watch. Similar design but in quartz and cheap

Beautiful watch and no-date too, it's called the Montreal, £5600 on Heuer website but discontinued? Cheapest on C24 is £4692. Speedmaster 3861 Master Chronometer movement going for same price on C24. Possibly explains why the Tag is limited to 1000 as only Heuer fans will buy it against the Moonwatch competition.

I recently got my grandpas Heuer Carera 1153N from 1971. I will forever keep this watch and once pass it on to my kids or grandkids. Love it so much and such a good pice to remind me of my granddad!

This actually looks nice. At 39mm too.

The Carrera is a fantastic watch - for me the most pure and beautiful of the 'big 4' (Speedy, Daytona, El Primero, Carrera). As for TH, watch this space - they are one the comeback after some lacklustre years. But then so are Longines, so were Omega in '00s and even Rolex has had less stellar periods! Historically, Heuer was every bit the equal of Omega/Rolex when it came to sports watches and I see LVMH finally taking an interest in TH now they can see the ££ in watches.

I have the plain silver dial 160 Anniversary and love it. It’s much more subtle than this coloured version.

Oh MAN I nearly bought this watch. I tried it on, absolutely loved it! I just couldn’t justify the price tag! I can’t remember how much it costed! 🙈 I just remember thinking “REALLY?!” 🙈

@@robertposteschild2353 There is a reason for that. Tag Heur isn't known to be the top tier luxury brand that Rolex is.

I've always like this one as soon as it was first announced/released. Love the Carrera design already. I have this thing for primary colors, too, so this one really works for me. It's just a fresh and different look for the Carrera compared to most other versions of the Carrera.

I’m OK missing out on a watch that can’t even get the underside of the chronograph hand painted properly.

@@DavidWilliams-zn2nc I think the OP is talking about the underside of the red chronograph seconds hands - in the reflection you can see it’s a bit rough. Seeing as it’s something you can’t see with the naked eye and I’ve seen Rolexes with far worse it certainly wouldn’t bother me.

You can see the underside of the seconds hand reflected off of the shiny minutes and hour hands. It's unpainted on the bottom. That really bothers me that they didn't paint both sides even though you can't really see it without a macro lens.

This Tag has the perfect balance of color and isn't over the top compared to others in it's class. Plain black and white tends to get boring.

Tag Heuer make such nice watches

I had one in my hands, but the ridiculous thickness of the watch was off-putting. The staff at Watchfinder knows this too, since they tried to obscure the sideview. The crystal sits 3mm above the watch and it just looks portly. Why can't manufacturers make watches as thin as they did 50 years ago?

I actually ordered and paid for one online when they first came out - and then cancelled my order when I found out what the thickness was. Shame as everything else about it looked great.

Agreed. Unfortunately the Heuer 02 movement is already 7mm thick due to the vertical clutch, so adding domed glass and display case does not help matters. The Autavia suffers even more which is why I never bought one, and assume the date on them does not help.

My dad had a Tag so I know the brand always played with the watch but I can't get myself to love one. I have a speedmaster and I have my heart set on a Rolex explorer 36mm. I think that will be a great two watch collection the watch that went to the moon and the watch that went to Everest.

Get a datejust with fluted bezel instead. Same specs as the Explorer but in a more luxurious and elegant package. Your black&white sports watch is already covered by the speedmaster

@@matt2m really great options as well. The 39mm OP’s are amazing and have beautiful color combinations. They are better than the explorer in my opinion.

Tudor BB GMT, 41mm of diameter and 14'5 mm thickness and everyone complaining that it is too thick. This Carrera Heuer 39 mm diameter and 14'8 thickness, the proportions are worse and not a single comment on it or the thickness. It's funny how the herd works when someone complains and the others repeat like parrots without having a clue. Curious.

We seem to be missing out on a lot because of these watches prices

Unfortunately it's not available anymore... Wish they would add it to the main collection, because most of their watches are way too big for me. This one on fhe other hand has good proportions, sporty but also elegant.

This watch and its siblings would be spot on, if TH would get rid of the automatic winding...its really loud, same as 7750, which doesn't fit a 6000 Eur watch...also its too thick, despite TH did everything to hide that fact somewhat...still its too thick for the 39 mm case size...both things really bothered me to the point of selling on my 160th anniversary Carrera after only a year.

I'm missing out on it because I don't have enough money! 🤣

The underside of the chronograph seconds hand is a disaster. Is it really that hard to paint both sides equally so the underside doesn’t look like garbage when reflected on other hands? Especially for that price

Thank you, Andrew for this video about TH. This Carrera is quite interesting, but, if I may suggest, selecting a Heuer02 based Autavia, would be interesting as well, as it is the first flyback chronograph TH produced. It also wears nicely, as I can attest. I probably should not say what I want to say, but some comments below, about "overpriced TH", look pretty silly and a bit of plebeian. If someone cannot afford spending money on something, it is not really necessary to bash that "something", Bashing an object, which is unattainable, sounds like the famous Aesop fable about the the fox and the grapes. Generally, it is pretty simple rule: you like something and can afford it, then buy it. And if you can't, then look elsewhere. Otherwise, anyone can start complaining about overpriced Louis Vuitton, Rolex, Porsche, Balenciaga, Zegna, you name it. As Jeremy Clarkson once said about bicyclists: "work harder, buy a car" :) TH is a house with a great pedigree in motorsport and a bit in aviation. The house, which produced some interesting watches like Microgirder, which has the ability to time events to 1/1,000th and then even to 1/2,000th of a second. Not a small feat for a mechanical watch. Thus, when you buy a TH watch, you do not just spend money, you get a chance to learn more about motorsport history and watchmaking innovations. In other words, calling TH "overpriced" is simply telling the world around that you are too "old" already to be passionate about something. IMHO, as always. Cheers!

Tag is a great brand to buy so long as you don't mind losing 2/3rds of your money come to trade/resale.

I think Carrol Shelby had one of these too.

Fantastic video Andrew, it captures the era you’re referring to fantastically. I had the pleasure and privilege of seeing Pedro Rodriguez and Jo Siffert racing when I was young. An era when motor racing was truly glamorous and this watch evokes that perfectly.

I've owned a TAG Heuer Link Dual Time for nearly 15 years and I loved it. I did get a Speedmaster recently but this video prompted me to take an extra look at TAG Heuer's current chronograph offerings, although I have two points of complaint still: the relatively large dial diameter (mostly over 42mm) in the chronograph line that drives smaller dial lovers away, and personally I think most of the watches are a bit overpriced - I would be much more eager to buy them if the price is lower by even 5%.

Excellent watch wich does resemble my old Heuer chronos from 70s. Even the outer diameter, originally they were around 37mm, so called jumbo size in those times.

@@metallusmelandril7380 Hello! Carrera ref. 7853 (a bit bigger one, chunkier look) and more generic Heuer MG with ETA 7730, panda dial, also identical Kelek with 7730 but with reversed panda. All keep time excellently and are under regular maintenance. Greetings!

I am glad to be the 250th commenter and noted that after 240+ comments, I share the same sentiments as Geoffrey Augusto who ALSO noticed the unforgiving blemishes! I can't believe this is the level of QA QC after 160 years of "heritage". Even my "brandless" ZELOS at $300 did not have such bad quality control, not to mention having to fork out over $6500 for a "limited" 1000 piece run!!! Even the British limited 500 piece gut wrenching NIMS PURJA Project Possible from Bremont provided better value.

I feel like the only actual Tag Heuers I like are the ones drawing from their Heuer roots. Any post Heuer original designs (Or designs created as Tag Heuer) just doesn't appeal to me.

This is actually a nice time piece. Still rather wear my speedy though. Lol

@@tivonh7075 No I don't own one but I did look at them when I was getting a watch - but as others have commented it is very thick and the crystal rises far above the case. From above it looks decent - from the side it's not very nice at all.

They have some pretty watches. But from what I heard from owners, the movements are not great…

Due to racing, Heuer was the first watch brand name I knew and I had always wanted one back when all I could afford was a Timex or Casio

It's a pity that TAG ever stuck their moniker on. They're either called just TAG or TAG HUR nowadays!

A beautiful watch. The dato 45 carrera is perfect in my opinion. But if these guys are serious about improving the image, they need to drop the tag out of the name and pull out of cheap jewellery stores. Back to the glory days of heuer
