But the Monaco is one of the coolest timepieces out there based on its racing inspiration, its engineering accomplishments, and the allure stemming from its cinema popularity. You need to watch this review to learn all the details that make this such a cool watch.

Hot damn. Now THAT'S a watch. Enjoyed the explanation of history, brotha. I was wondering how the 39mm was deceptively big visually. And you're right, the 55mm diagonal diamter makes it stand out. The rally strap really completes the watch's design too. This is a new grail for me. As always, such a well done video!

Nice video. Couple of points: It's a bit of a myth that the crown of the original Calibre 11 was deliberately placed on the left to emphasize that it is automatic. It was a byproduct of what Dubois-Depraz and Buren had to do to integrate the chronograph module with the base movement. The myth is a bit of ex post facto rationalization, but it's harmless enough. It's also a bit of a myth that the Calibre 11 was the first automatic chronograph. It was certainly the first modular automatic chronograph, and may even be the first one widely available in stores. But Zenith announced and showed prototypes of their integrated El Primero several months before Heuer/Hamilton/Buren/Breitling/Dubois-Depraz did, and Seiko's 6139 integrated automatic chronograph was on the market in Japan in 1968. That debate rages on, and each of those three companies have some claim to some aspect of being first. And, of course, you knew that already. Note that the Monaco was mostly fitted with the Calibre 12, a revision of the Calibre 11 (crown still on the left, of course), because its production was limited during that first year. A modern tractor like an SW300 is certainly a worthy successor to the Buren movement originally used, and the chronograph module is a modern update of the original by the same company, so I don't think of the modern Calibre 11 and 12 as being that significant a departure from the original.

Hello Jon! This the second video that i watch from you. Nice shots from the watch in the video. It seems you like it. Was on my hand this watch, and feels woow. One of the best looking watch in the world, and a true legend the Monaco. But in my country the TAG Heuer brand people really hate, and does not hold the price. Also a problem they use many modells Sellita movements.

And it just feels so amazing on the wrist, just as you said. Thanks for watching! -Jon Rihtar

Addendum to my comment below. Just got my Caliber 11 today. WOW, it is super nice. I really like it. However the dial is not as bright of a blue as the one you are showing in both pics and on you're wrist. Mine is more a matte blue, which I like better than it being to bright. Just curious why the huge difference?

@@mrbud8524 , I am really not an expert on buying used watches online. Honestly, it is something that's always scared me. I talked with a local watch shop about this once and he mentioned that there are places that take luxury watches and replace parts/movements with cheap/knock-off alternatives so you're not actually getting what you think you are. Having said that, people do it all the time with success - you just need to be educated on the process and make sure you can find a trustworthy and reliable seller. Again, I am not an expert but TGV has talked a lot about this (he has done it countless times). If you do want to go the used route, I recommend you watch several of his videos on the topic: kzread.info?search_query=urban+gentry+used+watches I will say, especially for a TAG watch, you can get a huge discount by getting it used. I hope this helps. Best of luck! -Jon Rihtar

I love the dial and the aesthetic and would really like one but the size and thickness continues to put me off - it's actually 15mm thickness not 14mm thickness. It looks super big on your wrist in this video. Don't understand why they can't at least reduce the thickness. Great vidoe

I've read the Sellita is less prone to positional variance compared to its ETA counterpart too. Excellent video, well thought out. Only feedback on this particular video is that this watch features a modular chronograph (Dubois Depraz), which lends to its thickness. Also, why does it matter to read the small seconds hand at 3 o'clock for racing as you pointed out? If you're using this to time a lap, you're using the chronograph function, would would mean only reading the subdial at 9 o'clock for the minute and then the red chrono hand for the seconds. The small seconds is irrelevant for timing purposes, literally serves zero purpose.
