Tag Heuer Monaco Review - The good old days revisited
This is THE icon of the Tag Heuer line up. If you could only own one from this brand, I think the Monaco is really the way to go. It has great history, design elements, and sharp details. I am really appreciative to Richard at Saltzman's Watches. Lending in these excellent watches and allowing me to create some solid content with them is a huge help. For any interested in getting a quote on this watch or shopping one of Saltzman's other brands reach out to Richard-

Grats, Hope you enjoy it!!!
I have the “ regular” blue with the crown on the right and calibre 12, had it for 5 years and very accurate, recently put it on a denim strap to dress it down for a more casual look and give it a summer look. On the leather it really is a dressy/sporty vintage looking watch, and looks great with a blue suit or sport coat. If you think of cars and style from the late ‘60s , that’s my favorite era, still the “King of Cool”
Great review. I am lucky enough to own this special edition gulf monaco watch. It's epic, I love the splash of colours and the square shape. Just puts a massive smile on my face every time I wear it.
What I like about the Monaco is that it's a real Watch Geek's watch. Like the Seiko Tuna and the Casio GW-5000, this watch is one that you have to be "in the know" about in order to appreciate it fully. One thing for sure, you're pretty much guaranteed to never see this on anybody else's wrist as you go about your daily routine.

That is for sure! And when you do (if ever) run across someone who knows what it is you can have a nice conversation with them about it
I own several watches both Rolex and Omega. I bought a Monaco when I went to SEMA this year and it has become may favorite daily wearer. Spot on on that comment about the stop watch minute counter sweeping I felt the same way at first strange but later appreciated it more as well it gives you an understanding why so many jewels. Everything just glides on this thing
I love to wear this Watch. It was a gift from me to my self last Christmas as a matching detail to my new Mustang GT. It was also a gift to my self for the 30th anniversary of my Ingenieur Diploma in 2019.
Steve McQueen and LeMans made the Monaco famous but Steve wore a Hanhart 417ES chronograph in real life. It's also funny that the movie LeMans made this watch famous but it's named after the Principality of Monaco/Monaco Grand Prix. I own the Calibre 12 version of this watch and it's one of my favorites.

Great review, I own the Gulf Edition Monaco and love it.
Wow awesome - thanks again for your efforts on this channel. Best wishes from down under
Such a great quirky ,interesting piece , totally agree it would be a great addition to any collection ..
Fantastic review - Thank you Bruce 😊👍 I particularly like that you shared the servicing cost - as chronograph is more likely to require regular service
One of the nicest watches out there - nothing else like it. The case design is simply stunning and that boxed sapphire is insanely well done.
Good review, Bruce. The blue one is my dream watch. I'll get it someday :)
Hi Bruce, I really appriciate that you also refer to the TOC of the watch. Over all I agree that the Monaco is an interesting watch, especially as Gulf Edition. BR from Germany Uwe
Love TAG designs. Love this watch. Will never spend that much on a watch, but sure is a beauty.
Well explained and detailed♥️
Such an icon. I think when people start to criticize Tag Heuer they forget about the grails :)

I think this is a very cool 😎 watch Bruce, a true classic 😍
Very special and great watch....must have
Would love to add the Gulf to my Monaco Cal 11. Both are the real McQueen cool 😎
Cool, bit too extrovert for me... & yes, I was named after Steve McQueen (as were a lot of boys in the late '60s early' 70s) but ain't cool enough to wear one these 😎. Cheers mate 👍🏻
Wow what a beautiful piece . This level of photography really brings out the best in the watch . Well done Bruce. You can get a great feel for what this watch is all about . Truly an underrated classic imo.Things I love also , the crystal and horizontal makers, as well as the heuer clasp so cool to me . Great logo great branding . Thought I always preferred the McQueen edition over the gulf , but this really has me thinking . Thanks for doing this vid and ignoring the tag hate .

No criticism? Love the watch!
This is insane, for the first time in 3 years I decide to change things up, go more sedle and put my Monaco Gulf on, than on the top of my KZread feeds, here we go, so I am here.
Hopefully you get to review the Carrera 02 GMT one day too. That watch looks cool.
The dotted texture in the blue stripe is interesting... is this just paint or some other material?
That is such a cool watch. I only just found out last year that a buddy of mine received that as an engagement gift from his wife after he proposed to her. Wow! Also, I had no idea that was a thing and I wish I had something like that. I also didn't know watches for the birth of a kid were a thing, and I missed that window. Ah well, I guess I've got a big milestone birthday coming up in a few years. Maybe that Speedy Ultraman will be mine one day.

I love it. Shame about the non-integrated chrono movement tho
good video tks
Great review Bruce, IMO the Monaco Heuer02 is the one to own - that Heuer02 movement is a beaut! Can you review a Carrera open dial..pleeeease

I would love to feature some more Tag Heuer! I enjoy the brand quite a lot
This watch reminds me I need to gas up.
Nice one Bruce...I just picked up a 2017 Autavia. Heuer rocks :D
Are you going to do a review of the TAG HEUER X GRAND PRIX DE MONACO HISTORIQUE? I would like to ask your opinion on three different watches: Tag Heuer Monaco, Breitling Top Time, and The Omega Speedmaster "Ultraman edition"? Which one do you think is the best? If you had to choose one which one would it be?
Unquestionably a cool watch. On fire. But can be found for waaaay under retail. :-)
This watch is not my cup off Thea but still great video
I bought the calibre 12 regular blue dial version just before the calibre 11 with the crown on the left side premiered. Thinking whether or not I should “upgrade” to this but regular blue dial. Does anyone own both? If so which version do you prefer?
@srichards5512

I prefer the cal 12. I wouldn’t upgrade yet if I was you. If it’s the McQueen style you’d prefer then I’d wait until they put the in-house movement in them. I think the cal.11 with the sellitas will decrease in price.
My grail watch. Forget the Newman Daytona -- *this* is the coolest watch ever made.
Is this Available
How much sindollars
Just bought the new Monaco with the Heuer 02 movement. Love it. goes well with my 8 other Tag watches.
What do you think about the Monaco with Cal. 12 or the new 01? I think, they are excellent, but I can’t get over the “TAG” logo. This simply doesn’t suit a vintage inspired watch like the Monaco!
“Livery” Bruce ;)
Hey Bruce , do you think they are ashamed of their being take over by TAG dropping the three letters on the watch front??
@BruceWilliams
4 жыл бұрын
No I don't. I think they enjoy doing 'heuer' only reissues from time to time. I don't think the Tag part will ever go away
I prefer the dark blue 50th Anniversary Monaco edition myself, not quite as iyf as Gulf Livery.
Buren and Depraz developed caliber 11. Heuer, Breitling and Hamilton support the project. Hamilton acquired Buren. Buren was in charge of base caliber and Depraz was in charge of the chronograph mechanism. I believe this was called project 99. I don't think Heuer actually developed anything within the movement. Just financial backer with rights to use the movement.
If you studied the history of Gulf Oil, you will realize this was a sad chapter in the history of activist shareholders seeking “ greenmail” to profit from the forced merger with Chevron that occurred. Devastated the research and employment base iat its headquarters of Pittsburgh, PA and regional hubs. In MBA school we had to study this merger as a textbook example of capital markets and shareholder rights used to benefit only the activist shareholder without considerations to the employment and long term benefits to the corporation. If anything,this watch just represents a nostalgic reference to the heyday of the Oil company and the romanticism of competitive auto racing, both of which have been replaced by corporate shells. Because it isn’t a monument at all to technical excellence.

I really want to like the Monaco but it just doesn't do it for me. If im splashing out that kind of coin, id reach for the zenith

AL Hacker - You’ll probably struggle to find an acceptable used El Primero around the 3k mark... At full retail or grey market prices, the delta is probably even more pronounced (4K vs. 6k?)
Always a first class review Bruce. I like the aesthetics of the watch but the movement is really disappointing and the watch is significantly over priced accordingly
I highly respect the heritage, but guess what..this is the only Monaco I had a crush 😻 on. I own one, and might be thinking of a vintage Cal 11 blue or the blue 50th anniversary, if I ever decide to own one. Never any other Monaco, the others look ugly
Movement is a deal breaker for me. Before I was a watch fan, I owned a Michael Khors chronograph (full on fashion watch). I could never read the chrono because it wouldn’t distinctly tick between intervals. Seeing the same thing on a watch as iconic as the Monaco is saddening. Tag’s “cash grab” reputation on full display. Great review as always Bruce. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic timepiece
These watches are fun but practically speaking, a race car driver never so much as looks at his watch let alone measure his lap time.
I like the Monaco and wanted it for a while, but I tend to always lose interest when watches have a partnership--Bentley, Boeing, etc--especially when its a gas station
I'm not very happy with my Dubois Depraz in my Speedy Reduced at the moment. My watchmaker serviced it, but he could not get it right and said send it to Omega. I still know another watchmaker, but he is like the soup nazi...grrr
First
6.5K for a Sellita... no. Cartier Santos all day long (because it’s also squared, there are also better chronographs than the Helier for that price).

@@artagain8977 I thought the cal 17 used ETA and these were sellita.
I like the colors, but can't stand the way the Monaco looks. I find it so ugly.
Pretty design, garbage movement. This is TAG/Heuer’s iconic watch; it deserves in-house movement

They have versions with the heuer 02
@ryanwalters2514

I owned one and wouldn’t go as far as calling the movement “garbage”. But, the criticism is well-deserved as it is certainly a movement that can be had at a substantially cheaper watch. Though, Bruce brings up the point that the caliber 02 versions exist and I’d argue that those are the ones worth owning since they would harken back to the original watch. Though, the fact that they call the caliber 11 movement the watch with the Sellita movement in it is a shame.
@Want300
4 жыл бұрын
@@ryanwalters2514 I am not sure they actually use the Sellita in this and not the ETA (I have heard it go both ways, so no way to truly know which is correct). But the whole idea on this watch is to keep it true to the original Cal 11 release as a modular movement.
@ryanwalters2514
4 жыл бұрын
Want300 I get that to an extent. But it was an in-house movement too. And I feel they are cheapening the heritage of the watch by using the Sellita or even the ETA in it.

Haha, honestly the lack of knowledge of some people - they don't hear in house movement and thus think it's garbage. Go educate yourself on this movement here - www.calibre11.com/tag-heuer-calibre-17-review-eta-2894/ No wonder the world is becoming dumb. The spread of false knowledge 😩
