    Really don’t understand the hatred towards Tag Heuer. Most people blame it on their aggressive marketing, yet the same people probably masterbate over the thought of Rolex, the kings of super aggressive marketing. Also don’t get the hatred towards quartz. I appreciate quartz, automatic and mechanical. In terms of common sense, quartz beats all other movements hands down...cheaper, more reliable, technically superior, longer lasting and more accurate.

    I have this same exact watch - except black dial and yellow accents. Rob touched on all of the high-points of the watch. It's a fantastic watch that should not be a turn-off because it's a quartz Tag. It is a very nice and easy watch to wear daily. But there are a couple things he didn't mention. First, I bought this model because I fell in love with the looks of the latest generation of the Aquaracer. Then I decided what I wanted: plain, flat dial (as opposed to the dial with horizontal pattern), no cyclops over the date, maxi-hands with two-tone lume and 41mm (I don't have a problem with larger watches, but the 43mm Aquaracers have odd lug-spacing at 21mm versus 20mm on the 41mm models). Tag does not make an automatic meeting those criteria - only this quartz model. I would have had to give up at least one of those to get an automatic and I decided I wasn't going to because an automatic movement was not on my list of priorities - and then as he mentioned, I saved a ton of money. Second, the hands and markers on the dial are rhodium plated. They glisten and glimmer like nothing else. Polished stainless steel cannot match rhodium. I don't know of any other watch that offers that at around $1k. But it's a killer watch. The size, style and everything makes it wear really nice as a daily watch. The standout feature for me is the legibility - at least on these darker dial models. The contrast between the rhodium plating and dial makes it easy to read the time in bright light and even low light. And when it gets dark enough, the lume takes over. Don't expect the lume to glow like a nuclear reactor, but you can also count on it fading very little over the course of the night. Don't get me wrong, it's bright enough without question. It strikes a perfect balance of initial brightness and longevity. The only head-scratcher for me is the second hand. Why did they not put the lume tip on the second hand of the quartz model that's on the automatics? That's a little odd and bizarre. It's a plenty robust movement used in many dive watches with large lume plots - so I don't think torque and weight would be a factor. Maybe they thought it would call too much attention to the ticking instead of sweeping. Who knows...

  • @reecelxman1762

    @reecelxman1762

    I think you're right about the lume not being on the second hand because it would draw attention to the 'click'. Imho I agree with it, I live the sweep of the second hand in an automatic. It would make me sad to see the click so blatantly lol :/ PS, I've just ordered this too, excited about the arrival!

    I got one of these a while back with a white face and I like it a lot. It is in my regular watch rotation. It is light, comfortable, keeps great time and it looks great. I know there are a lot of people out there who dislike Tag and quartz, but this is an excellent watch, at least it has been so far. And the lume is really bright. If I had to pick one watch, would this be it? No, but it is a nice watch.

    Anonymous Person and Rolex or Omega isn’t “over-priced”? The finishing on my Grand Seiko is better than any Omega or Rolex I’ve ever owned. And many newer Seikos are starting to use sapphire, though Hardlex is still a great choice on a diver.

    Trouble with Tag is although nice style to them, most are £1'300ish for a Quartz powered one, but Grand Seiko is probably the better choice at the Automatic price range, Japan make great watches and their underrated - I own a Seiko Solar powered diver £200 and I love it.

    Good review. I actually like the design of Aquaracer, both the quartz and the automatic. But along with my two automatics, and a hand-wind mechanical, I have six quartz watches costing between about $40 and $85 each. They are all crazy accurate, and five of the six hit their marks. I can see in some instances paying a grand or more for quartz, but if my $40 Casio Edifice can hit the marks, I don’t think it’s asking a lot for a $1k quartz watch to do the same.

  • @carlosgarcia-ue7hd

    @carlosgarcia-ue7hd

    Well, that's like saying "why would I pay 10k for a rolex automatic movement when I could buy a seiko 100$ automatic movement" Both movements are automatic, both give you the time. So why would you pay more than 1k for automatic movements if 100$ or less movements exist.

    I've a 6" wrist. You should be ok. Dive watches look smaller than other types of watches so 40.6mm will be fine. The 47mm lug to lug & 12mm thick is close to the limit with a 6" wrist though...should just get away with it but you wouldn't want it any bigger I've a Tissot seastar quartz in blue. 40mm 46mm lug to lug & only 10mm thick = perfect for a 6" wrist 👍

THey do have nicer bracelets, nicer glass (sapphire) and brand name recognition (in the regular person world, not the watch folk world). I held this watch today and the fit and finish felt fantastic, just gorgeous in the hand. I noticed the second hand flutter and the other oddities of this movement's behavior and I'll say this, at 1,600 USD, with a $30 movement inside, I can't possibly justify $1,570 for a shell of a watch, no matter how beautiful it is. In my opinion, the movement needs to be at the level of the physical fit and finish of the case and bracelet, sadly it isn't. As much as I wanted to buy it today, ultimately, I'm glad I didn't. Hate to sound like a snob, the watch is beautiful, but the movement is unacceptable at this tier.

    I don't have anything against quartz watches and I actually have a majority of them in my collection (casio, citizen, certina, bulova and omega among the quartz watches), but I can't honestly see how to justify the price of this watch... a movement you can buy for 30 bucks, cheaper than a miyota 8 series automatic.... all SS, sapphire crystal.... stamped divers extension... cheap looking button mechanism... bouncy seconds hand that doesn't hit the marks... I could see me paying 200-300$ for something like this... may be 400-500 accepting the swiss made and tagheuer marketing taxes if I really liked the design and brand... but at its actual price I just find it insulting... that is not a luxury watch, that is just a scam. And just to be clear, I am not heating on quartz watches, nor luxury quartz watches , nor tagheuer as a brand... I am just hating on this watch.... anyone considering this watch... just reconsider... take a look at a longines vhp if you want an entry level luxury quartz watch that is actually worth it... or a casio oceanus... but not this, please....

    I agree with you. The price on this Quartz Tag is just ludicrous. I have a $135. Vincero Fashion Watch in my collection and the seconds hand hits all the markers PERFECTLY...ALL the time. For a lot of these “ Luxury ” watches, the Brand Name is what you’re really paying for. Casio’s Oceanus is certainly a far better option.

    @@MrShinobi797 You are so right! I actually bought an Oceanus based off one of Rob's reviews. It's one badass watch....that sooo many people don't know about.

    If it doesn't hit the markets then it isn't luxury. $300 Citizen Eco-Drive watches hit all the markers.

    Bad news for you...$300 Citizens aren’t luxury watches either. Far from it.

    I didn't say they were, I'm saying I wouldn't pay this much for a watch that doesn't make the effort to hit the markers when I can get one for a lot less that does.

    WORMGERM then you clearly don’t understand why one hits indices perfectly and the other doesn’t. For a start, hand-made costs more but results in lower manufacturing tolerances. Secondly, most quartz movements tick 60 times per revolution yet Citizen Eco-Drive calibers have many more incremental steps per revolution, meaning they can be adjusted quite finely when being calibrated. Third, you can line the gear up perfectly in a regular quartz movement when making it, then line up the indices perfectly and then line the hand up perfectly but as soon as you start the watch it can still miss the indices due to some initial slip.

    How so? They offer a steep discount on all the watches at the price of losing the authorized warranty by the actual brand. All the watches they sell are genuine and brand new and I do have to admit their warranty system is a pain in the butt but other then that, they're just like any other grey market out there.
