Tadej comments on Covid not being as serious now, I’ve just had a bout which has lasted 3 weeks, possibly the worst sickness I’ve ever had including Covid in its early stages. My best friend ended up in hospital with the same thing 2 months ago. Both fit and healthy regular cyclists with decent nutrition. I think it’s a bit of a lottery with the current variants and in some cases it’s incredibly bad and in others people barely have a day or two of symptoms.

there are long term effects regardless of the acute symptoms too. the symptoms are your body’s response and they have little to do with the actual damage the virus does

Well, I remember doing an etape 2 weeks after Covid, and my time up Alpe D’huez was an hour slower than in the previous etape I’d done up the Alpe. It screwed me - and I wasn’t even that ill.

@@systemicchaos3921 Mild in symptoms doesnt have to mean it didnt have an effect on your health and fitness, COVID can be very sneaky. And a TdF takes a huge toll on the body as well.

@@systemicchaos3921 Most people who end up with Long Covid only had a mild bout initially. And some of these cases come after a third infection. It's very unpredictable.

to me it is still amazing what kind of body a human needs to have in order to go the fastest over ~4000km hilly terrain in 21 days. greg awesome work with these reports and questions! keep on pressing these guys for things we wanna hear.

Rogla looks sharp! Go Rogla! Jonas looks in great shape too, a little cautious choosing the right words. Remco seems very shy, not the defiant Remco of last year. I think he is feeling a lot the weight of being in the Tour and his mind is playing tricks with him. This thing is not for the weak of mind, he should focus or he will be long gone very fast. Poggi is very confident of himself and his team.

@@HatRock i was (maybe biased) seeing it as he was just being realistic and will just chill overall early doors and try to keep pace with the leaders and take it from there. not expecting fireworks but he does look really well and not as if he has poor form this year :)

hindsight may be 20-20 but considering this and sepp kuss, shouldnt the teams have had their atheletes vaccinated maybe a month or 2 ago? doing it now may be bad for their fitness but what about a month ago? what made then not want to take precaution? please anyone enlighten me.

Coming off the Giro and then battling covid with little to no time to recover. If Tadej wins the Tdf, that would be a superhuman feat, maybe right up there with Lance's TDF win after battling cancer. Kudos to UAE's medical and training staff!

It could be not that serious, or it could have destroyed his fitness without him even realizing it. It can damage the mitochondria pretty significantly; but that's the thing: there's no way to know exactly what it did to him until he starts racing
