Out of possession Arsenal were not compact enough. Transitions was Arsenal's problems they loss the ball in dangerous areas and did not react quick enough out of possession. Their back 4 should have dropped off when united had good possession. Lots of transitions sessions at training.

Eriksen was the maestro today. What a performance by him.

The formation made Rashford's second possible and they where focusing play down the middle and I was happy to see it work considering the diamond is one of my favorite formations

Potter never ceases to amaze me, its always hard going against them, he tailor suited his tactics to his opponents, makes it really hard to play

Erik is the playmaker, i wont be surprised if UTD pull big upsets against top teams, He will need good CDM`s who can protect him and McTominay unexpectedly is doing a good job in the last several games. Once Casemiro comes in we can see a more fluid Utd that aims to keep the ball more.

@@johnkiks8024 To be honest with you, that's okay. McTominay can just stay behind the more creative players and just handle breaking up the play. It's the reason why we was so good with Matic in the double pivot. The midfield may not be the best in terms of quality, but it's functional. Casemiro/McTominay as the ball winners Fred/McTominay as ball progressers Eriksen/Bruno as playmakers/line breakers We have functionality and that's what we need right now.

Arteta didn’t rate eriksen and that’s how arsenal lost. I don’t understand how for the entire game he still didn’t try to solve that problem. First goal eriksen played a split pass from united’s defense taking out martinelli. Saka, Jesus , xhaka, Sambi, odegard. One fckn pass. He didn’t learn a lesson that u don’t give eriksen space. Second goal. Same fckn thing. Third goal. Bruno with exact same pass to erikse. Arteta made shit changes thinking he’s playing against Bournemouth. The illusion of control that arsenal think they had caused their downfall. U can make 20 silly passes and if non impacts the game directly then that control is useless.

I think people also needs to see a context in Arteta's winning run on why they lost to United. Three of the teams they faced are actually in a really bad form : Villa, Bournemouth, and Leicester. They only managed to beat one good-form team comfortably, that's Fulham. Against Palace, they are actually pretty much equal on chances but Ramsdale saved their game. I think the big chances are also relevant in the match against United. Arsenal created 2 big chances with many low chances while United created 5 big chances. So the xG may seem a bit misleading; the more higher chances teams have, the higher their true probability to win the match. This is why also City only managed to score 1, only one chance they had is big. This Arsenal is really interesting. They are just like mini-City, strong high pressing but weak to spring-type teams. Will be exciting when they face spring type like Spurs and Brighton.

I loved the way United played in controlled possesion, it was very quick and loads of combinations.

Ten Hag used Cruyff's diamond to cut through Arsenal's defense

2 problems with Arsenal : 1) Arteta got the wrong plan against a team that can score only on counter attack and who loves the high lines press to counter. Arsenal should have waited for united, maybe with a back 3. Utd would'nt have any plan against that. Martinelli and Saka would have been able to attack. 2) This lack of depth in Arsenal squad is already costing points. It's not even a question of quality subs, it's a question of number. Lokonga isn't half of Partey. And if he gets injured him also, arsenal have NO more DM left. They will need to play Odegaard as number 8 like last season, and will again drop points. Of all the top 6, the gunners have the smaller squad. You cannot challenge without substitutes in the PL, that's a simple equation. At the intensity Arsenal are playing, where Odegaard runned 11km against Aston villa, this squad will crack down if Arteta does'nt manage well. They need to manage their energy until January, then buy midflielders and wingers, otherwise...even the top 4 isn't guarenteed. The level is there, but the number of players isn't.

@@micah0190 I thought that too but at the end, i think it's too much risks and hard work while it wasn't necessary. Utd are easy to play when the opposing team plays low block. They can't counter attack anymore, and they struggle to score in open play. That's where Arteta need to improve i think. Mourinho is the master at that game : when a team struggle in a domain, no need of high press. Just let the opposing team play, and then attack. We did that at Stanford Bridge last season, with a back 5. Chelsea could'nt do anything with the ball, all the team stayed in shape. I could see it miles away that utd were going to wait and counter.

I believe Carrick is the best comparison. Watch the highlights again, Eriksen is playing those 10-15m progressive passes Carrick was so good at doing. Everyone forgets who really unlocked uniteds football 07-14.

@@pnau92 Maybe so but carrick was deeper, eriksen does get forward a lot more than carrick. And u forget scholes was also playing these passes especially from 2006-2013. Eriksen and mctominay is shaped like a Keane scholes lineup more so than a carrick Keane. Which carrick was there to replace Keane. Carrick has more of a defensive output than eriksen.

It was Arsenal who played well throughout the game. Arteta didn’t give importance to defend the Counter attacks which proved costly

@@owenpro1362 He would’ve scored a goal or two yesterday has he received better passes. There was one long pass from Fred and another from Bruno or Eriksen (can’t remember exactly) both on the break. However, none of those passes landed in his feet. While he is far from his younger pacey self he is still better than Rashford in contributing to buildup play (while Rashy is someone you want to make runs in behind).

EtH is so desperate for an inverted RW that's why he plays Antony right away while player like casemiro still needs 'a time to adapt' Those RW positions are a liability on attack when united played elanga there, elanga isn't a right winger nor an inverted one, so most of united attack from right is came from dalot alone because elanga practically useles when he play on that side. Now I understand his reasoning to start Antony, even though he knows Antony still lacked match fitness and subbed him off after an hour of playing Also eriksen played the role EtH intended if he got FDJ and no one is better at this role than eriksen. Just like what Conte did for eriksen at inter Milan so eriksen definitely got a lot of experience in that role

Personally I had written Dallot off, but I feel like Dallot is playing A LOT better under Ten Hag. I suppose it's because he is getting a better objective and also the fact that he can actually trust his defensive colleagues now. If you Let Erikson play his natural game freely, he'll cause destruction and chaos with his long passes and intersecting defensive and Midfield lines. Brentford pressed Erikson and closed that channel to make him comfortable on the ball. Arsenal wasn't taking Erikson seriously and that caused them this Game. He had his part in each of the goal, just one long pass and your Attack and Midfield can't reshape themselves. He's a Gem ❤️

Not many players get the opportunity to play for the famous Manchester United treble winners and in the footsteps of Duncan Edwards, Nobby Stiles, Bill Foukes, Roger Byrne, Denis Violett, Alex Stepney, Best, Law, Charlton, Coppull, McIlroy, Kanchelskis, Mark Hughes, Denis Irwin, Schmeichel, Robson, Cantona, Keane, vNistelrooy, Carrick, Edwin vSar, Evra, Vidic, Yorke, Cole, Neville's, Beckham, Giggs, Jaap Stam, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Scholes, vPersie and Rooney.

A. you cannot press high without man marking in the mid field. Either the midfielders need to recognize the high press and mark open players or they mark the players then communicate to the forwards to press. It works no other way. B. The lead center back needs to direct either/both defensive center mids to cut off passing lanes. This obviously did not happen thus adding to the MU players wide open up the field and the through balls happening..

No matter how good Arsenal plays against Utd at Old Trafford, at the end of the day, the officials will always be the one that let them down. The constant hacking and wrestling implemented by opposition at will whenever they face Arsenal most of the time went unpunished but when Arsenal started to play a bit aggressive it will be hardly gone unnoticed. Of course these will disrupt the fluidity and game plan imposed by Arsenal over the course of the game as the players will have problems to execute the manager's instructions as they will be left with no protection by the officials. I think Utd had set a blueprint of the way to stop Arsenal to other teams since the day they ended Arsenal's unbeaten run during 04/05 season

2.0 to 1.4 is roughly similar? That is a whole 60% in goal scoring chance difference and that is huge

Arsenal's problem is in transition. Zinchenko inverts when in possession and pushes Xhaka higher up, but if they lose the ball and the opponents counter, there's no one who can defend in the middle of the pitch (Zinchenko isn't good at this). Normally Partey does this but he's not there at the moment. This problem directly resulted in United's second goal. Arteta needs to find a solution to this problem in transition. Otherwise they'll lose more games to counter attacking sides.

One of the mistakes that Arsenal made is that Odegaard is not a striker so the plan of having him and Jesus do the double pressing is stupid. They should have put Eddie N.Kettiah alongside G.Jesus. That makes more sense.

There was nothing on the Milan Derby. I believe I subscribed about a year or so ago because you did a great analysis of Conte's Inter but I rarely (if ever) see Serie A material from this Channel.

Arteta lacks experience. Yet, that will come. Ten Hag, lacks the experience of working in the Premier League, that will also come. As a Man Utd fan I see us progressing well in the next two seasons, as I do with Arsenal. Yet, will the managers be given the time? Whatever, we all hope with Klopp, Guardiola, Conte in the league as well, this might be a closer season. I am not forgetting Moyes, Potter who I think are exceptionally good. Will be fun.

To be honest, not sure what Arteta was thinking. He was essentially playing a 4-2-4 (or 4 triple 2), disregarding Eriksen as the pivot. Lokonga and Xhaka were stuck on two midfielders, and the other would be free as the pivot. Getting Odegaard to push up to press the 2nd CB just gave space in the midfield as no one picks up the pivot. Arsenal were down numerically in the midfield. Especially when Arsenal went a goal down, Arteta panicked. Taking off Zinchenko threw off the balance of the defense. At this point, calling him/his team a mini-Guardiola/City is kind of insulting to Guardiola. City tactically are much more composed than this. Even down, City stick to their guns, oftentimes they lose games this way (Real Madrid) as they don't create the chances they want, but its definitely a much more mature team than what Arteta is building. I'm still hung up on why Arteta got Odegaard to press the CB. Assuming he doesn't press, the formation is a 4-3-3. If Odegaard pushes forward, Arsenal is down a player in midfield. With this in mind, Jesus should press a CB, while the midfielders mark United's midfield, which should force the CB wide. The entire team then shifts to win the ball on the flank. Of course, the demerits to this would be allowing the opposite flank space, but it's better than allowing United to play through the middle. United's new style seems to mirror the Ajax of that one season. Extremely direct and progressive passes through the lines. In this game, the tactics won it. Arteta and Arsenal got it completely wrong in my opinion. Hell, even a mid block would've worked better.

Arsenal should be using 2 formations. 1 . When they are pressed, they should play 4-2-2-2 and when in possession, they should use 4-2-3-1. That is my opinion. I may be wrong

I don't actually think Arsenal is a good at defensive third. They are great at cycling the ball, the winger tucking in, the third man run, Jesus being the main attack link everytime for them... All this is good and they are a sublime on all this but look at the high line they played and how they defended to counter that. Absolutely horrible trackbacks.

If you want to win as a team, you dont necessarily pass to the best player by name. You pass to the player with most potential to score. Ronaldo isnt as fit as he was when he was in hie 20's . he's fading away and Im sure he's seeing his last 2-3 years of football.
