I have to say that Pep's tactical plan was on full display in that game. It's impressive how he was able to come up with a strategy that involved playing all four of his natural center-backs - Dias, Ake, Stones, and Akanji - in the same lineup. Even more astonishing was his decision to play Stones in midfield, a move that paid off with a resounding 3-0 victory. It's clear that Pep is a true genius when it comes to tactics and has a keen eye for identifying the strengths of his players and using them to his advantage on the pitch.

You missed the most important thing in the game, the change of KDB for Alvarez that completely changed the game. An Alvarez on the right helping Bernardo and being decisive in the following 2 goals, one taking the mark and leaving Bernardo's back free, and in the 3rd minute making a crossed pass towards Stones for Haaland goal, he also had his chance, and City could have scored 2 or 3 more goals if it weren't for their goalkeeper.

that was what i was waiting for him to analyze. the substitution was really what made the key difference in the second half. it made a lot of chances for city. bayern was divided in half when alvarez came in. two beasts up front in haaland and alvarez were causing problems late in the game. add up the constant pressure those behind them caused.

Very nice analysis. Pep showing great tactical versatility these days, Who would have ever thought 5 years ago he would sacrifice midfield supremacy to have a greater goal threat, use pressing traps to create and pick players at the back strong in the air and in the tackle so City could withstand pressure comfortably in a low block. This City team has many ways to win now - and a core of steel. Bayern a little unlucky not to score, but also lucky not to concede more at the end when the wheels fell off. Definitely a performance from them that flattered to decieve, but there was a moment when the game was in the balance. If Guardiola can teach Haaland how to drop into the midfield and link play this team will become unbeatable. Should be a walk in the park after managing to show Grealish how to defend, and Stones how to play pivot - the last one is blowing my mind.

It was a weird game to watch in that neither the scoreline or the xG really reflected the balance of play. Muller being subbed on and having only 10 mins of playtime was criminal. City were great with their positioning, spatial awareness and switches/passes and someone like Muller on the pitch would have a considerable impact to coach Bayern on the pitch. Nothing to take from City here, they played like a team and their tactics were on point and they were efficient when in possession. Kudos to city and hope Bayern bounces back in the second leg.
@MrSoumyaBanerjee

I doubt it would have made much of an impact. Muller adds very little other than tactical discipline and a high workrate nowadays, he was never a proper 9. Thing is, Bayern are limited in terms of attacking depth, esp since Mane has been a flop and Gnabry is incredibly inconsistent. Choupo Moting helps a lot as his hold up play and pressing are really good, but he was sorely missed today.

I watched the game twice now and I think this has been a battle of the defenses, which actually wasn’t bad from both sides most of the time (apart from the 15 min period of Bayern after the 2-0). And the key for MC was actually closing down passing lanes very effectively from 2 sides, not so much man marking, so Bayern‘s attacking was slowed down immensely and they had to rely very much on individual dribbling and long distance shooting. The same thing goes for City’s midfield/attackers, which ultimately forced so many risky decisions of Upamecano. On the other hand, Bayern was most of the time good at clearing the balls, but contrastingly they couldn‘t shut down the passing routes, because MC players moved very intelligently in between the spaces, which lead to a more threadfull impression overall. Bayern‘s strong 15 minutes in the 2nd leg came mostly from transitions, but City defenders are also individually world class. All in all, Bayerns offense wasn’t creative enough for such a strong defense and City‘s combination game is a well oiled machine. The only way I can see Bayern beating MC at home is by classical crossings for headers, a style of play which only Choupo is really good at due to his physicality.
Tuchel for parts of the 1st also was clever enough to implement a zonal pressing where his forwards would not take the bait of Pep taking advantage a midfield extra man, they were happy to let the back 3 pass the ball to themselves while not going forward, technically it was not terrible at all from Tuchel, but City have so much fire power in every position. The weakness of City has been mentality not capability, I hope Halaand is that difference.
Sweet revenge for Pep in this match, and Tuchel got some thinking to do for the home match 😆
Bayern sure is missing Lewa or a proper 9 today, Choupo would’ve been a proper danger man at the box, Gnabry couldn’t fulfil that role well

@@ogbonnasam9997 That's because Gnabry's positioning was nothing but shambolic. Both Coman and Sane are not really masterclass finishers (at least not in their current form) but if they had a 9 in to play to, it could've looked different since they wouldn't need to cut in that deep into the opponents box anymore and would take on the role of providers instead of finishers. The lack of a 9 has always been Bayerns biggest weakness and them missing out on a 9 in that match really showed that again

Man City's performance today is like Michelangelo's art. 110% perfection
one underrated thing about naglesmann's bayern was that they knew how to controll a game. they didn't concede a single a against fcb, inter and psg not just because they were great but also they had luck. and sometimes you need that luck to win the ucl. for example look real madrid's last year campaign
@samuraibirds917
Жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as luck. A team either plays good or bad till the last whistle. Madrid was not lucky last year, they were superior. They conceded a lot of goals but they were able to compensate for those mistakes because of their elite attack. Nagelsmann was able to draw matches and keep clean sheets not because he was lucky but because he had better tactics. Pep is a master of the game and his tactics forced those mistakes in Bayern's defense. Luck is used as an excuse for those who were not willing to fight till the last minute. Fighting for every inch, every ball posession, every shot and every cross. You don't create your own luck rather you create your own success. The Madrid of last year was the definition of not giving up till the last whistle was blown.
@MrSoumyaBanerjee

Actually, I think Bayern missed choupo moting the most, his hold up play and pressing makes a huge difference. Mane has been an utter flop, Gnabry is very inconsistent and Muller is not a proper 9. Some takeaways from a Bayern fan: Nervous sloppiness, the lack of a No. 9 and Müller not starting were our downfalls. Tuchel reacted too late with his substitutions. Musiala, Gnabry, Mané and Davies are out of form (Upamecano was out of form as well, but his last games were great). Kimmich and Goretzka don't work as double pivot against strong opponents. Sommer was huge but we needed him to be tall at the first goal... Sané is inform again but lacked a competent playing partner (I thought that Gnabry started the game pretty solid but lost his momentum rather quick). The game was decided mostly on individual levels and City was superior in almost every aspect, which sadly didn't even need to be outstanding. This one was tough for tuchel with him still settling with the players …. 2nd leg very key to be very aggressive and take more risks😅
Completely agree with this. Tuchel has gotten a lot of slack, but that purely comes from the scoreline. How many teams actually go to City and get more possession. That's a result of the shape and the tactics and it's down to the players to then take advantage of that. Bayern were sloppy
Great work
Great content!👍
Excellent presentation.
The reason why Bayern got beaten with 3-0 -Ganabry was nowhere in pitch so Bayer was playing with 10 men against city -Upamecano is not up to his level as most of the time he was nervous and hoping delight or kemmich will clear his shit everytime. -Davis was good most of the time but he was lazy to track back. -Sane tried hard but he has no options rather then try his luck from outside the box as there was no finisher in the team.
Nagelsman lost his job for this...

I really wanted to see the centre back to DM instead of fullback to DM and he did it perfectly
Munich were just unlucky. It was a thriller, kudos to both teams. Nice analysis!
Bayern looks outmatched even since first half. They had some good moments but City was able to get out of pressure like it’s nothing, while Bayern players were running around getting tired (which was very obvious in the 2nd half). On the other hand, Bayern can’t build up from the back for the life of themselves. Their players were relying on dribbles too much but not producing anything. Bayern was dancing on the palm of City, and I would be surprised if this doesn’t happen again in the 2nd leg.

Clearly City was better. Though Bayerns back wasn’t really the issue, I would think; defensively they are top-notch, better than City or any team imo. Rather it’s the offensive upfront. Not to say Bayerns attacking players are inapt; Sane, Gnabry, Coman certainly are decent players - but still only decent. Their inability to create chances and keep the game upfront - despite good build-up from the back (that’s where is strongly disagree) - increases the pressure on Bayerns back, which will inevitably lead to errors here and there. Not to mention Bayerns recent change in managers. Putting on actually great players from the beginning like Müller and Mane might have changed things a little, I don’t know.

@@sebastianradlmeier8922 I agree with much what you wrote, but Mane has been an utter flop for the past 2 seasons now. Muller is technically lacking and is not a true 9. Bayern actually missed Choupo Moting the most, what they actually need is a proper 9 like Osimhen and a 6 who can provide cover for Kimmich. Goretzka, Gnabry and Mane have no place in this team.

5:41 The game was lost when Bayern was in possession. So true.
Pep probably the only manager to ever made few system for one single club and all of them work perfectly. 17/18 : possession english version 20/21 : no striker, everyone play striker 22/23 : 4cb in same lineup?2dmf? 4 behind striker can be another striker (alvarez), second striker,.winger or midfielder, pep can put anyone behind haaland
you are making me intelligent, thank you!

Q from the US: obv a manager/coach can communicate adjustments to the team at halftime. But how does a manager do this during a half of football? In US basketball, football, and baseball there are time outs (a limited number, yes, and usually used for different reasons in each of those sports, but still, a coach/manager can stop play to talk w players). Prior to a match does a manager lay out all the responses the team will make to changes the other manager could make? To all players? Or does the manager only talk to the center back, say, concerning possible defensive adjustments?
bayern quality of Nagelsman Overloading and fluidity in possession and pressing was modified to tuchel style of play.
Tactical geniuses 💙
Stones has been bossing his new double pivot role. I've missed Rodri's rockets. Ruben Dias was next level..... Haaland's build up play keeps improving I'm happy about that. Alvarez would be a star in any other team and I have high hopes for him, He could replace Kevin if he isn't fit in the second leg. All in all it was a good performance all round.
Silva and Akanji were exceptional in locking down their wing. Unfortunately Upamecano was targeted but overall city by far looked more dominant
Dias and Rodri were insane last night.
Tuchel’s tactics were not that bad but not good enough. Bayerns tried to have poachers (sane,musiala,gnabry) which played in central area behind the city’s midfield ,but they lacked of quality and chemistry,they didn’t connect to each other. City were comfortable in defense. Tuchel were obsessed with direct football .Comparing to Nagelsmann which is to keep the ball more intensively.
Now there's no need to be a tactical genius in the 2nd leg cause this overthinking by pep in 2nd legs is the reason we haven't won the champions League yet... You're a genius we just saw it in the 1st leg, now let's go back to the basics in the second leg, lets sit back, absorb the pressure and hit them on the break. #Alvarez should definitely start the second leg
Ruben DIas was MOTM though

I think Tuchel made some mistakes that weren't identified. There was a large phase of the 2nd half where Bayern went to 451 and that meant they didn't have enough forwards to effectively press City's back 3. City ran riot from this phase through the end of the game. The fluid front 4 of very redundant wide forwards created problems as they never got the buildup right and it was difficult for the players to pin down who was at fault and what to fix. Coman and Musiala were allowed to lose the ball from central positions a lot. I think basically Tuchel mis-roled a lot of the front 4. I also don't understand why Bayern never passed to Goretzka despite playing in a double 6. It meant Bayern always started play on the near flank to Kimmich and rarely switched play despite dominating on the flanks throughout the game.
Elite level indeed excellent play from pep 🔥🔥🔥🧠
It was a heavy weight battle of tactics but unfortunately this was the only outcome as the city players looked sharper, more fit and much much hungrier than bayern players. And also, majority of this group has been together for sometime now, so absorbing the coaches instruction is easier. Another problem is Tuchel likes to tinker a lot, him changing his back 3 and moving upemecano to the right of it destroyed all the good he had done. It was also naive of him to try and push for an equalizer, could've taken the 1-0 defeat and put it all on the line at the allianz arena. And the dude just likes changing things, did this at Chelsea and lost the dressing room, it's difficult for players to adapt in a game, especially if they didn't practice what you are asking them to do. This is not a video game, most of the things players do on a pitch is instinctive, and that's driven by habitual behavior that needs to be cultivated on the training pitch, not in a high level Tuesday night European games.
what is the name of the software used Where can we get the touchscreen you are using ?
Stones stepping out from CB is more technically better than a RB/LB stepping in cause of the distance to recover being much smaller
I'm just hearing about how good Bayerns tactics were in this game, but they lost 3-0 and it wasn't a mistake as you alleged in the video. I think you should go watch the game again Bayern was definitely struggling
Damn! That City set up was next level
THanks to this channel, I already know exactly what happened before I even watch the video..I'm just watching to have something to watch while I have my lunch...
For me whatever Rodri did yesterday was both amazing and dangerous. He was not a complete CB.
Your analysis was on point, Pep didn’t outclass Tuchel like many see it, actually Bayern played really well, but both coaches tactically neutralised each other, the only difference is that Bayern made more mistakes while City were more clinical.

what software are you using for the tactics board?
Im no tactical expert but Tuchel should have continued to play a back 3, Goretzka+Kimmich+traditional Bayern up the field pressing can be exploited easily by teams with a midfield as good as City's. Mane adds absolutely nothing to the team, they need to ship him and Gnabry off at the earliest and invest in Osimhen and a proper #6.

To be fair that was Barca team that didn't deserve to be in the semis. Messi quite literally dragged one of the worst CL Barca sides ever to a semi and almost got them through to the final in that first leg. City on the other hand isn't a one man army. Them choking isn't realistic with how good of a team they are. Don't even stress about it, Bayern have no chance unless injures hit very heavily out of nowhere which simply won't happen.
What software do you for analysis for your videos
How does Pep get an 8.5 out of 10, he deserves a 10/10 for the tactical set up play as well as identifying tuchels pressing structure not to mention peps tactics rewarded his team with a 3-0 win to have a comfortable lead at the Allianz for next week
Great 👍
I blame the bayern board, you are telling me that things were so bad that they could wait until the end of the summer? They might go trophy less this season. That's a Tottenham type move appointing a new manager at the most crucial time.
