Same thing on my 2018 Tacoma, same idler pulley. To confirm I gave the idler pulley a shot of 3in1 lube spray, in the inside diameter of the pulley and it stopped squeaking. Don't use WD40 as the lube for this, it will make the squeaking worse. The 3in1 made the squeaking go away completely for about 15 miles.

I have two 2019 tacomas and both are squealing from that pulley , this must be a common part that fails on this truck then. Thanks for the video I’m replacing em today

My truck has 47k miles and the squeaking got to the point where I can't take it anymore today. Been squeaking since about 40k. Very annoying. Thanks for the video.

Update: I thought it was my idler pulley, but it turned out to be just the belt. My OEM original idler pulley had a bit of movement as well, but after watching this video and seeing his new pulley have some wiggle too, I decided to try just the belt and see if that fixed the noise, and it did. FYI, I had this truck at the dealership for an oil change yesterday (right before my first comment) and they tried getting me to buy a new pulley/belt with installation and quoted me at $470 in Midwest money. I even asked them if they could quickly change the belt and see if that solved it, but they would not due to the slight movement on the idler pulley. The service manager even demonstrated the movement of the idler pulley for me, thinking that was 100% it. I'm not saying the dealership sucks, but it just goes to show sometimes they have just as much of an idea of what's wrong as we do. However, if I was running a service shop I would have probably switched the belt out at the request of the customer. Anyway, I highly recommend trying the belt first before buying an idler pulley. Took me 15 minutes max, and I even took the old pulley off to inspect it before putting it back on again with the new belt.

@@Shocka1111still doing alright? I just started having a noise. It’s not constant. Only after the engine has warmed up and while accelerating. Sounds just like a bad belt but it’s not constant. Sprayed some water on the belt, and the noise went away for a good while but does come back. Hoping it’s just the belt but I may swap the 2 top pulleys while I’m in there

Thanks for the video. My 21 Tacoma has 2K miles to go before the 36K bumper to bumper warranty expires. Wouldn't that repair be covered under the 60K drive train warranty?

I do maintenance for a living im just annoyed because i have the timing cover oil leak and im waiting for the coolant to start leaking and now the pully along with uneven tire wear in the front end. Money pits. Lots of salt here too.

Dam.... working with a loaded gun with an extended mag...........hopefully you are aware of your surroundings by exposing that thing while your working on your truck. Gun retention is key, especially if you are leaving your weapon exposed while your working on your truck.

How do you know there is a round in the chamber? Also, the weapon isn't exposed - it's in a fitted holster. I've carried for years and years with a Glock 43 with an extendo mag concealed at my appendix with a round in the chamber . Cutting down trees, working on cars, remodeling houses, etc. If you have a holster designed for your weapon, it's completely fine to carry while working and going about daily activities. Do I recommend this for everyone? Definitely not if they aren't comfortable (like you).
