Tekken 4 is such an aesthetically pleasing game. I really do appreciate how characters like King, Bryan, and Law have appropriate body builds and aren't absurdly buff.

Yeah Tekken needs a “change of scenery” so to speak with it’s character costumes. T6 kept the same dry outfits from T5 and I remember Harada wanted to keep the T5 look for everyone as their defaults for every new game including T7 and people were like “no”. So he changed it up for T7, but many of the new T7 looks aren’t really that great. King still has that boring T5 look/color scheme only this time with a cape. I would say the best new looks for T7 are Lee, Kazuya, Bryan and Xiaoyu. Everyone else have weirdly designed “try hard” outfits like Paul’s weird American flag costume, or Jin’s weird hooded outfit that seems to be connected to his pants like some onesy pajama. Feng and Leo with those weird chains hanging off their wrists, Nina with nothing but a torn wedding dress, I get that it’s a image to Kill Bill, but still not good enough. Most of it is just bluuegh!! T4 outfits still stand the test of time. The artistic direction of the game is just f****ibg great. God I miss Steve’s Hawaiian shirt with tape hands look, and Yoshimitsu’s insect outfit.

@@Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee That’s right, I forgot about Steve’s new hoodie outfit, which is his boxer entrance outfit. Yeah that one looks fantastic. But the really great outfits for T7 are very few and far inbetween and that’s a let down.

Also hwoarangs GI looks badass. Like most outfit they look straight from an UFC game or so, more grounded and realistic. They really need a redesign for the next tekken. Because combat is the best of the series but design is the worst

Yeah definitely need more Mexican flair. The vaquero look and long hair were the first time he felt Mexican to me.

I miss the creativity and interactions of old tekken maps :(

Quite a few of the Tag 2 maps had detailed backgrounds with stuff going on in them, sadly Tekken 7 didn’t really repeat that.

The problem about the stages were that they were either so small that you can hit infinite combos especially with bad wall splats. Then there was objects in the way that can also lead to infinite combos and sloped arenas. It’s definitely creative but it won’t work for competitive play.

when I was like 8 years old I had a ps2 with tekken 5, I always liked king but all I was doing was 10 hit combos. I still remembered all his 10 hit combos by heart since then

Kinda sad that in Tekken 7, most of all the characters are just limited to only two 10 hit strings at max. When I first played this game and picked King, I was confused in why the People's Elbow ender doesn't work in his 10 string -- only to realize that they removed it.

FahmiZFX because they're bad. Devs want the new players to practice juggle combos not 10 hit strings.

I'm also curious to see if Armor King becomes a mainstay after his immense T7 popularity. I love them both, so I certainly wouldn't mind.

Hope he does. No reason not to now that they are aware just how much of a fan favorite he is. Actually the coolest character in the game. (Leroy might have challenged for that position but unfortunately he became a plague.)

Of all Tekkens, in my opinion this one really deserves hd re-release the most. But through twitter I feel the team and Harada think the overall consensus is this is the most hated iteration, and don't want to show newer fans when the story was more rooted in reality. Real shame :(

Hey man, I remember during Jin's story mode you were about to fight Kazuya in like the penultimate stage, the VS screen comes up with Jin vs Kazuya, then the game transitions as if everything is still going as normal, but Jin is a no show. That blew my 12 year old mind, because I was used to Arcade being this straight line of fights leading to a sub boss fight with the bad Mishima on the penultimate stage and a fight against the big bad boss character on the final stage.

@@goldster100 That's true, he was. His ending is Dr. Boskonovitch putting him to sleep to give him a new cyborg body. I swear, in the arcade version of T5 you could equip a visible glowing robotic heart on Bryan but it wasn't present in the console version

@@Andrey3oo7 and it's still a nod since the Rock was at one point a part of the corporate as the Corporate's Champion and I believe the King would even refer to the elbow as the corporate elbow so the name works well

I love how relieved MainMan sounds when he realizes that he called the Straight Arrow correctly.

Even aside from his hitbox issues, there was always one anomaly about King in this game that drove me nuts: he is the only character in the game with a 9-frame 1 jab. Some characters like Steve and Nina lucked out and got super fast 8-frame jabs. Others like Hwo and Marduk got stuck with trash 10-frame jabs (plus Jin, but he was broken otherwise, so he doesn't count). So why was King alone with this distinction? We may never know...

Can you please re-visit Marduk in this game? Especially since you're getting him to TGP right now...

A few things you don't mention. Firstly, ff1 was -12 on block in this game, whereas in Tekken 7 it's safe (it's a homing move, and homing moves tend to be safe). Similarly, b1 (u/b1 in Tekken 7) is -10 on block in this game, while the move is safe in Tekken 7 (it is, like ff1, a homing move). Moreover, f4 (also a safe homing move in Tekken 7) is -11 on block in Tekken 4.

Ahh Tekken 4, one of the best soundtracks of the series, awesome stages with unique environments that wasn't flat a long with the characters being given some unique outfits... Good times

The physics on Bryan's jacket is quite impressive considering the game is almost 2 decades old

Tekken 8 should have staged with some obstacles in them again. That would be kinda sick.

The thing is, one player could hide behind an obstacle, and waste some time making the opponent either chase them around, or try to break the obstacle. "Oh, 5 seconds on the clock? And i have more health?" *hides*

He has a version of Marduk's f2, d1, 2. The animation is slightly different in that the second hit of Marduk's version is a hook, whereas with King's version, it's more of an overhand punch.

IRL the Mega Bomb is the Michinoku Driver.

@theMainManSWE are you emulating Tekken 4 when you play and record for KZread or are you using something like Elgato Game Capture recording off of the PS2? Does anyone know?

T4 is probably still the most creative tekken design-wise, but watching this reminds me how flawed & boring its gameplay is. A lot of moves were mad useless.

A lot of useless moves but the stages, music and nuts combos make it fun. I feel like the only people that consider it a black sheep are the competitive audience(which is crazy becuase the first 5 Tekken games are all broken)and Tekken 3 guys who still thinks it's the best becuase they played it when they were 8.

Do you have any advice on getting back into Tekken? I haven't played 7 in a long long time, was focusing on other fighters but they are all dead. Any tips or advice? I want to main Lei Wulong or Kazuya.

I hope T8 has stairs and objects in stages

3:10 1) It's actually b1+4, not b2+4. 2) King had this move in Tekken 3 and TTT1 (albeit without the crouch throw follow-up), and the original Armour King didn't have it in either Tekken 1 or 2, so it's not really accurate to describe it as a move pinched from the original Armour King.

This was the first Tekken game where King seemed humanized to me. He had hair and I learned he was Mexican. Before that, I thought he was a person with a Jaguar head lol

Apparently - and one should take adjudications as to the relative strengths of characters in the first three games with a pinch of salt, since frame data for those games is notoriously difficult to come by - King was quite mediocre in Tekken 3. He wasn't as lacklustre as he was in Tekken 4, though. Tekken 4 probably represents the low point for King.
