I think the definition rhythm and poetry for rap is very true for RM though. He's very analytical about language and very thoughtful about his writing. He was called 'the philosopher who raps' in some article a few years ago, which I think is quite fitting for how he approaches writing lyrics.

RM and Suga have known each other the longest, and Suga would never let a day go by without reminding us of that fact. So damn cute to be honest haha.. They really respect each other immensely. So I get the kdrama-ish scene lol. As for product placements, BTS are ridiculously on-the-nose about it. They really find the most hysterical ways to promo brands they have to promote. I think they just decide to exaggerate and have fun with it. I laughed my face off seeing the way Suga would just turn randomly with the product and break the fourth wall during In the Soop. He's brilliant!

But he said "I convinced myself" that rap is poetry on rithm.. Cause he was a good student, always loved to read, and poetry, so when he heard rap, as a young boy he was drown to it, and so that part of it too, the liricism... Now RM wrote a lot of lirics, and not all of them are, but a lot of them are poetry

there is and award ceremony speech that RM gave as respresentative of BTS where he spoke about the realtionship created between bts and army and about how we are both fans of each other. he said that bts is inspired by the stories armys share through social media or through letters that we send them and that many times, these stories make them reflect and produce great songs. i think this is one of many reasons why we have such a strong bond is because the love we give them as fans doesn't feel one sided but it is reciprocated through music and the kind words they always give (if you check, there isn't one single award speech where they didn't mention army and most of the time it's literally the first word they say). and its been so constant throught the years that it doesn't feel forced or fake (which a lot of people looking from the outside may think)

BTS are constantly promoting things accidentally. Jungkook was brushing his teeth on camera once and ARMYS figured out the brand. Those toothbrushes still sold out to this day. They were doing laundry once and ARMYS sold out the fabric softener overnight. So they been trying to cover labels and stuff a lot better in the last couple years.

36:20 RM was a poet before. That's the career he even considered. Then he was introduced to rap with one of its "fan-made" definition being rhythm and poetry and then the phrase got gentrified for sure, but that phrase is a major factor that resonated with him and made him shift to being a rapper. But that's definitely 2 separate art forms, rap comes from MCing and I think we all know that RAP isnt an acronym etc... But if you take a look at many of his texts (in BTS or solos) he definitely has a very poetic approach to songwriting. So it's just something that resonated a lot with him.

The Fair Trade Commission in SK doesn't play and BTS have a LOT of influence. Jungkook eventually resigned from his own brothers company because the SK FTC tried to go after him for wearing his brother's brand and "back door advertising". It's a whole thing. So yeah, every member is very conscious of branding, etc. (Plus BTS does have a current contract with Milkis so I'm sure there was a conflict. But in general they do try to pay attention.)

The strength of BTS music is very much the philosophical bent in their lyrics, and it comes from RM's way of understanding language. That is one of the main things that drew me to be ARMY. And as an academic whose approach is philosophical I appreciate the depth it has given to BTS music. Added to that is a sincere take on life. The icing on the cake is the camaraderie and normalacy they bring to the table as individuals. Not sure if anyone understands what I mean🤔🤪.

Ohhh good point, i haven't thought about how he could be new artist now. I remember how one artist got nominated as best new artist even tho they werent new so there was a conversation why BTS couldnt be since they fit the same exact criteria as that artist (except with more album sales, more streams and just more popular than the artist of course). I hope RMs album is gonna be nominated but I doubt it because it is in Korean and he is BTS. I really liked how both RM and Suga were really relaxed and smiley in this interview. RM was just so excited and ful of energy the whole time gesturing with his hands and moving around. I love how also both just shared random knowlage and facts to which both of them were like: "yeah i heard of this fact before" like it is general knowlage not a specific nishe fact hahahah As for color purple. For one concert back in 2016 ARMY put small purple plastic bags over their ARMY BOMBS (BTS lightsticks that are nowdays Bluetooth controled and can change color, but back in the day they didnt change color) so they shone purple as a surprise project for BTS (in one concert they even did a ranbow with the plastic bags, but we then decided that even tho it is cute and that most ARMYs will collect the bags for forever as memories, it is still wasteful plastic so we didnt do it anymore.. plus it wouldnt be a 'surprise' anymore and then we got upgraded lightstics). But yeah the member V on the spot came up with a speech of how purple is the last color of the rainbow and that it will mean he will love us for forever as the rainbow and stuff. And from there is became "I purple you" and slowly and organically it became out fandom color. It wasnt just Bighit chosing a specific purple and saying this is ARMYs specific color; it was ARMYs doing a random surprise project and because V responded like that on stage, and then because ARMYs loved it sooo much and kept talking about and kept using "I purple you" that the members also kept using it. And it just grew organically. So there isn't exacly a specific purple. But at the same time the purple that you see in the videos is a specific purple if that makes sense hahaha 💜

Anyway, BTS is well known for free promotion for products they like, cause ARMY will dig out anyway. I still remember JK once asnwered fans online what healthy drink he was drinking (not sponsored, JK just done research and bought them), in the next couple days they were all sold out and JK compliant on live again that he couldn't get it from grocery anymore. The product maker found out and instantly sent 50boxes to him. 😂

  • @ZariDV

Dang. Sometimes you just casually drop nuggets that make me need to pause an think. You're right. It is technically possible for RM and maybe even J-Hope to get nominated for best new artist since they both released their first albums this year as fully solo artists. That would be aweseom. The way you describe the difference between the "rhythm and poetry" idea with how most people actually approach writing music is so true. In a way, I think it works for RM though. There is a poetic nature to how he writes. Especially when you start digging into the multiple layers of Korean culture and playing with both languages that he does sometimes to get the story across better. Or the ability to take a topic everyone has already done and use a unique concept to translate the topic through. Anyways congratulations on your new song!

Also, his level of involvement with many of BTS albums/concept/lyrics are insane yet seeing him been so humble & being low key make me want to brag on his behalf. Lol.

I enjoyed this a lot. There is a Suchwita episode out now with Taeyang, that's the third episode, and it's really good. I would love to see you do that episode.. YES, RM should get best new artist and album of the year, but I really don't think the Recording Academy will give it to him. He should be acknowledged though, with a nomination, at the very least. They have nominations as BTS for this year. I heard something about J-Hope's song Equal Sign getting recognized by the Recording Academy for Songs for Change category, but I don't know when or how, or if it's true.

Suchwita is fun, yeah the animation stuff is very common in Korean variety show I like how relaxed both of them are in this episode, sometimes when a member goes on a show solo you can see them being a bit nervous or awkward, this one is just comfortable to watch. The other two Suchwita episodes are nice too but this one is my favorite 😂 for obvious reasons. Ep 2 the guest is a famous Korean TV show host and comedian. And EP 3 is Taeyang from big bang who did Vibe with Jimin. Ooooh RM best new artist yes I like that, I hope he gets a nom

Milkis!!! Yeah, you KNOW they sponsored, when it's like that. I love Milkis and I BET they sold ton of it since. The BTS brand power is nuts. Redaction of the brand has to do with the sponsorship/Advertising/Copy rights I believe. If they are being sponsored by that particular brand, they can show the Name/logo but If they do NOT have that, they will not say any brand name and they will redact part of the name out. Otherwise, they have to pay that company fee for using their product on whatever it is... Apparently, it isn't necessarily true for KZread though. It is same here in America. Whether it's Movie or TV shows, if, let's say Coca cola is paying the promotion fee, sponsoring that program/movie, you will see the actors drinking coke products name an all. If they are NOT, it is turned to you don't see the name or they will pour it and you only see the liquid. Or if it's a Car, they will not show name of the car/brand/logo/emblem in a movie/tv shows unless they are paid by that company. I think it's just that in Korea, they kind of make it obvious, they just put a line through, cover up partial name... or says partial name... like co* cola lol we all know what it's suppose to be, but they didn't actually say the whole name so, I guess they don't have to paid them for the product name righit/copy rights... whatever it is. And yes the editing, inserting animations, CG's are very common among Korean programs.

43:50 I don't know if someone explained it already but purple has become the official colour of BTS and ARMY in 2016 I believe when Tae (V) said the following words during a concert: "Everyone! Do you know what purple means? Purple is the last colour of the rainbow which means I will love and trust you for a very long time" Since then, the phrase "I purple you" or "Borahae" (in Korean) has become very special. Taehyung didn't expect his words to grow to this but we made it a special thing between BTS and ARMY. I don't think there is a specific colour code? At least, not that I know of

27:00 I totally agree, just make the music. Especially when you have a following of folks who love your music. Because they know you make genuine music. In a nice way, take advantage of that because ya never know when it all fades to black. It's hard for me, who has been a listener of music for over 50yrs, I've pretty much heard it all. Super long, in between and now less than 3 minutes in most instances. I wish the songs would trend back to 3.5-4 minutes in length. I think that's a good compromise. I understand the attention discussion and streaming concepts. However, things can change. I went to a intimate concert to see a female blues guitar player and each song was 8-10 minutes, that was kinda long but she was good, Melody Angel.

43:55 I wouldn’t say there is an exact shade of purple. I’ve seen them use various shades of purple in official merch. It’s kinda unofficially the bts and army color. Idk if you know the origin but let me explain just in case. It happened during a concert where army surprised bts with with what we call a purple ocean (it might have been called something else but I don’t remember) by covering their army bombs purple plastic bags (at the time army bombs didn’t change color) and V came up with a meaning on the spot. “I will love and trust you for a long time”. A little bit after that k-army started using the phrase borahae (I purple you) and then international army caught on until bts started saying it themselves. Since then it’s just been our color. It’s not official though. I’m not sure if it’s trade marked. Phrases like “I purple you” might be though.

Well they even sell out automobiles to the extent where a car model they do an ad for goes out of stock. The other thing is when bts does ads they go all out. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nmqt3LydeNXbhaw.html This is one example of a whole ass song shot in perfect music video style and lyrics about the car. BTS's hyundai ads are so extensive they have done more than one song and even full on vlog like videos. And even with smaller ads they put in their artistic creativity into it, so the government is always trying to get them to promote stuff. BTS were already Seoul (capital) Ambassadors for 6 years and last year they also became Busan (another major city) ambassadors after the government being behind them for a whole year cause not all the members were ready to sign the contract right away (there is a lot of politics around this how government milks the group. If you do any busan concert content, have questions around military or watch any other content where this all political history comes up I shall explain in detail). But bts are also equally giving and once they signed, they did many promotional videos for tourism and did a whole free concert in busan.

Some have aged well and some haven't. I suggested it only to get you started since you show interest and unfortunately no unbiased (from both army and non army perspective) analysation videos have ever been released. Even this guy's target audience was army for a long time so keep that in mind. 4) since such politics are fairly new, armys may not have the most refined opinions on it unlike other areas. @@Jurnalist_ Context for the first link: In 2018, high ranking officials of the companies SM, YG, JYP, FNC, JELLYFISH and KMA held a meeting to discuss about enlistment period and alternative military services of Popular Culture Artists. Bighit did not attend that meeting. Yet, BTS was used as an example by the other companies to show the impact the group and thereby the industry has on the country. But the discussion got streamlined as the government had awarded BTS to be the youngest recipients of Order of Cultural Merit ( The highest merits from the ministry of culture sports and tourism) and with that came 'bts law' as the Military Service Act revised the law to postpone bts's enlistment until age 30. This law also came by so that their career wasn't hindered by military since based on 2018 figures, BTS economic contribution was at $4.65 billion per year. Also 2017 research said 1 in every 13 tourists came for just for bts. Ever since then BTS only grew bigger not just economically but with an exceeding soft power. The then government predicted the potential and bts gave them the national benefit that they put their hopes on when extending the age. Now, in many press meets, bts were asked about military. They always said they would go when time comes. So they weren't bothered upto mid 2021. The previous president 'Moon Jae In' was in total support for the group. That's how they became presidential envoys, got diplomatic passports etc. March 2022 was when elections would happen. So the opposition since 2021 found Moon Jae In's interactions a threat and started bringing up bts's military a lot more in media discussions. Fast forward, the opposition wins (the current president is a conservative) With respect to bts though it was straight painful to watch. The government used this topic and stretched the discussions. How? They began by talking about bts's contributions, it being a national pride and whether they should be exempted. Link 3: www.90daykorean.com/military-service-in-korea/ This article talks about who gets exempted as per law. But briefly: those with Olympic Medals, acclaimed classical musicians etc. You see how pop culture artists don't come into picture. Kpop sure was a huge factor of contribution to Sk's popularity even pre bts. But what was the standard? A billboard award? A Grammy? Their monetary contribution? Their soft power? The discussions became so wide spread inspite bts never pitching in for any of this. Some mixed opinions by korean general public, skeptical kpop fans etc: 'if more groups get billboard awards then won't so many in kpop start getting exempted and we will loose manpower', 'exempt them cause even foreign media recognizes their monetary contribution', 'bts is not the only talented group in kpop. Our idols all served in military. Its unfair bts isn't serving', 'what about men working hard on the fields and never getting recognised? Is their contribution to the country irrelevant?', 'if bts serves then it is an inspiration for all men in Korea' etc. Armys had split opinions cause obnoxious kpop fans ignored that their fav companies were the one who started this and would through petty insults. The Internet folks in the west found this as another reason to insult them by belittling their manliness. Some armys blindly supported the idea of exemption cause they started getting annoyed by the insults and it became a matter of ego. Meanwhile others like link below: Link 4: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5uBpa-anZCWZtI.html This link explains how everybody uses bts in general and how tiring it is for bts as artists and humans. In short the government just instigated talk but never had any intention in changing things. This was partly to get bts to do other public services without having the oppurtunity to plainly deny. Link 5: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJ2E2bGih7ieepM.html You may ask why didn't bts just say anything but that was because the public opinion was so futile. According to gov stats, 55-60% of general public wanted bts to be exempt but they got insults left and right from the rest which Jin addressed in his live. He talked about how it felt good to finally use the word 'military' and how the insults took a tole on them. This live was after bts put their foot down and said we are enlisting since we never asked for exemptions, via a statement dropped by the company the day after busan concert which was kinda savagery cause politicians where present in the busan concert and so much politics went on around that too but I will explain another day😭😅 if you read upto this, you have my amplified respect for being a genuinely good reactor... cause I put so much effort into this!

Jungkook came back the next week and basically scolded us cause he couldn't get it anymore. That small business won 2021 BRAND OF THE YEAR award all because of JK and Army, they've expanded internationally in a very fast rate due to demand. They do donate a part of their profit to the community as a give back in the name of JK/Army. It's called the Jungkook effect! But their rap is poetry ...comparatively speaking...There are actually several technical methods to rap...I believe some do it by mimicking others...And don't really know the technical side of what they are doing...While others clearly do know

I'm watching this vid after the whole fiasco with Jimin's KZread deleted views and billboard shenanigans, so i really doubt the grammy's will show RM any love. What is your take on this topic?

He won’t be submitting i think. So it won’t matter. But I also don’t see him playing the game if he does. So he will provide a great body of work for the fans and forget the accolades.

@@Jurnalist_ I agree. I think he understands how the game is played and he also understands he doesn’t need to play the game anymore. I love how he’s trying to help less popular artists get their name out there so that they can continue the fight on a bigger scale.

OH MAN! You gotta love their shameless promotions, they are so hilarious! Sometimes they're even more random than in here. They don't shy away from going extra with their sponsored products. That is why companies love them, and we laugh with them too. I remember when they just started, they didn't have any sponsors so they created fake ads for fake products skits, so funny. Another thing they did that was epic marketing was when they designed their own merch "Artist-made collection by BTS" and they made a show to sell them like 80s style telemarketing show, with them acting as the mc and models. Super cheesy, extremely funny. ARMY sold out everything in seconds. YES, FUCKING SECONDS! I tried to buy too. Damn you ARMY! Here is one of the shows kzread.info/dash/bejne/dqWX0cmqgrPKhbg.html
