    The "AP" on the Hyperspace game's price tag actually reads "ΔΡ" and it stands for Drachma (Δραχμή), which is the old Greek currency. 3200 Drachma would be about 7 British pounds, if you're wondering.

    O.G. game boy was only 160 X 144 Game boy advance was only 240 X 160 with 256 kilobytes of RAM. Nintendo sure knows how to squeeze the most out of low powered hardware. But then we run into problems like Tears of the Kingdom chugging away because Nintendo also refuses to admit when it's hardware needs upgrades. Good old Nintendo, they're like my nonexistent uncle who still uses answering machine cassette tapes.

They are actually a quite traditional toy company selling wooden hand made toys like swords, shields and miniature castles and stuff. If you ever get to visit Berlin make sure you check out their store. It's located conveniently close to the city's centre and the main touristic attractions.

    Incidentally I don't think any german would fail to reconize Hava Nagila though. I grew up with that song, my parents learned how to sing/play it in school. While a lot of that is post war education making sure to make judaism relatable in order to prevent anything like the horrors of Nazi Germany happening again I'm glad that jewish culture remains a part of modern germany.

    This console came out at the same time as the Atari Lynx. *Think about that for a minute.* The resolution is marginally higher than a Sinclair ZX81 and the games are of comparable quality. In fact, the whole thing has an incredibly "early 80s" feel to it; not just the specs, but the amateurish feel to the games. It probably would have looked impressive in 1983; next to the Game Boy in 1990... not so much. Let's not even compare it to the Lynx. The packaging, artwork, everything about this screams cheap and nasty. It makes Jack Tramiel's shoestring marketing of the Lynx look positively extravagant. FWIW, I suspect Nintendo secretly funded this to make the Game Boy look better. (#) Hint for those who weren't around at the time; the ZX81 was *not* considered a red hot games machine even in its heyday.

    In 1991 a Game Boy was 160 DM with Tetris, the Game Master was 100 DM with a pack-in game. A Lynx was 200-300 DM, don't really remember, with Blue Lightning(?). A Game Gear sold for 250 DM with a 4-in-1 Cartridge in 1994. I think, the Super Vision was sold for 130 DM. The exchange rate with Euro was 1,95583, so just divide the prices by 2. That's without inflation, of course!

  • @wagonlee5443
    @wagonlee54438 жыл бұрын

    Pretty sure the unknown currency is Drachmas which was the Greek currency before the euro was introduced back in 2000 or so. The "game" today would cost around 8 euros or so without inflation adjustment.

    Hmmm, a system i haven't heard of, very interesting indeed. I know you mentioned it but the carts really do look identical to Supervision ones, as does the packaging right down the the little bags the carts are in, i wonder if they just bought the moulds etc to save money? If that's the case it's suprising they didn't just rebrand the hardware too keeping the games compatible. The system seems to have a number of game gear esque styling cues aswell, very interesting, i shall add it to my list of wants, curse you Stuart Ashen for wasting even more of my hard earned currency! And how did you miss the words "slide the game pack partridge" in the hyperspace instructions! good lord man, you're slipping After a little research i think the upright version you mention at the end is the Game Plus, it's software compatible but the plastic of the carts is slightly different so they don't actually fit, despite the boards being identical

    i am pretty sure that the supervision and the game master are done by the same company. a large number of supervision games are made by a company called bon treasure. while the game master was not released in america, it was trademarked by a bon treasure industrial co. ltd. a few game master games also bear a copyright screen crediting bon treasure. finally, there are indications that watara was actually just a brand name, since the only thing they seem to have ever done and/or marketed is the supervision hardware itself. maybe i’m wrong, but i’m pretty sure watara = bon treasure. hartung, just like videojet in france and systema in the uk and virella in italy, was just a licensor. they just happened to be the first ones to license it.

    Why in hand held gaming gods name does this require 4 double A batteries?!?! The tomagachi that came out a couple of years later used the same dot matrix screen...and ran on WATCH BATTERIES! The way this screen works is insanely simple actually, and this system most likely has no processor of any sort, it's all just signals going to sections of the screen and that's it.

    "Gourmet" that word, i believe airlines don't know what it means. Then again with all the air pressure your taste is messed up, so maybe airline food tastes good, on the fuckin' ground

    Yee Macghyee They actually design those meals with the altered tastebuds in mind. So apparently there is only so much they can do. Especially since they have to take various variables into consideration, like the enclosed cabin with no air flow (Those air nozzles do nothing!), so they can't have very aromatic foods since they can be nauseous in closed spaces. Though personally, I think they still smell quite a bit. I'm not big on flying... especailly in recent years where I've been actually getting airsick, which is a bizzare experience. I went from a little kid that would yell cowabunga on lift off and enjoying looking out the window. To a shambling mess ready to throw up at no given notice. Even if it is two hours after landing during a shuttle ride (Good thing I take some airsickness bags with me when I get off the plane)... where was I going with this? Oh right, food smell. The smell does not help at all with airsickness.

    I have had one of these since I was a kid, with quite a few of the games. I still have it though it only works intermittently now. I remember it cost $80 when a Gameboy at the time was $200. Hyper Space was actually my favorite game. Continental Galaxy and Space Castle were also good. I'm pretty sure when you finish Space Castle the completion screen says 'CONGURATION'. Bubble Boy is a playable Dr Mario clone, and Car Racing wasn't too bad. Go Bang is broken, there's a sequence you can play and the machine responds the same way every time which means you can't lose. Kung Fu is just dreadful. The Gameboy price dropped to $150 some time later and I remember frantically getting my mum to call around town and drive me miles to pick up literally the last one in stock. It was like upgrading to an Oculus Rift.
