System Update - 00 Error. Motherboard Failure?

So this is a system update. One morning I went to turn my system on and the Motherboard instantly throws the 00 code and there is no boot or other codes. In this video I troubleshoot the issue and fix it.

    Whats up Lee? Thank you very much for posting this video, it was the only one I could find specifically on the Asus X99-A 3.1 throwing 00. I, just like you came across this issue 3 night ago. Went to power on my computer which has this exact motherboard and a intel 5820K lightly overclocked. it powercycled over and over throwing 00 code. After trouble-shooting it to eliminate bad RAM, PSU, all other hardware interference, even a successful bios flashback, the outcome was still the same- power cycling and 00. I then purchased a used core 5820K on ebay and through it in. Same outcome. After seeing your video I'm convinced its the board. Unfortunately this specific board is hard to come by now, so I'll have to do something else. Good to know it was the mobo. Thank you for uploading this content.

    Same issues. Seemed random but it isn't. Crazy but the fix is just to apply a bit of warmth to the mobo. Either leave it switched on displaying 00 for 5-10 mins then reboot or use a gentle hairdryer setting from a distance. This mobo was eventually warm enough after repeated on/off cycles to boot.Same issues. Seemed random but it isn't. Crazy but the fix is just to apply a bit of warmth to the mobo. If not both!... I had the exact same issue, a 00 error code that's why I'm here, and after watching your video, I feel twice sad as I was before since my thoughts came true... Glad you saved your pc... Wish me luck for mine

    Sadly I've also got the same issue but with a recurring theme. Only ever happens when the PC has been off for a significant period of time and the room it's situated in is cold. At time of posting it's just started to get colder / started happening again; been running totally error free all summer. Once it boots however perfectly fine, it's just a question of getting past the Error Code 00 displayed on the motherboard. As previous poster mentioned applying some heat to the general area where Error Codes Display / M2 Drive is fitted (if you have one) using a hairdryer resolves the issue much as it makes no sense. Very sceptical of this but it works. If this happens to you before you start buying a new MB, unplugging peripherals etc using a hair dryer apply some heat to this area for about a minute. And prove a point, put a digital thermometer next to the PC with a notebook. Note when the error occurs / ambient temperature. You'll soon start to see a trend. Hope this helps as this issue drove me to despair for a long time. Certainly won't be buying ASUS MB again, zero official recognition of this issue and / or the fix.

    Just logged in to thank you for this. Today, first time in the morning, when tried to turn up the computer, the board displayed code 00; however the only difference respect Friday (when it was working just great) was a colder weather. Before reading your comment I wasted the morning trying to troubleshoot the memory and PSU and got convinced that the board was death. Then I searched for the error in KZread, found this video and got to your comment and then all made sense! I just went to the motherboard with a hair dryer and after a few seconds of heat, the 00 error went away and the board booted up just fine!. Thanks again!... but this worries me now. So, now I have to live with a hair dryer next to my PC?

    Had this happen to me this week, The DRAM led was lit regardless of the ram or positioning, I rebuilt the computer into a new case and power supply and the motherboard went to 00 after I did the first power test after finishing the build. I believe two of my standoffs had got stuck to the mobo screws and I think it caused a short, the standoffs were stuck to the screws and it came out of the case, I might have to RMA the case if the standoffs threaded or shaved the stand offs are on the case

I bought it a while back and finally got around to putting everything together, all was well until this morning. 00.........I have not looked into testing anything yet, thought I'd see what the web rats and trolls had to say. Luckily I have another 2011-3 system to test parts if necessary, but it is still a disappointment. Initially, I am also leaning towards it being the motherboard though.

    My Asus X99 Strix recently fried my CPU so since I've only had the system running for less than a month I sent both the motherboard and CPU back to the retailer to see what they say. It's a shame, I really like the way Asus' motherboards look but from the research I've been doing lately it seems Asus boards are fairly well-known for killing CPU's and having issues in general.

  • @LeeZavitz

    @LeeZavitz

    8 жыл бұрын

    I normally always spread it smooth and even like that. Before this mobo died I did the pea sized method. Everyone has their own way. Honestly it doesn't even matter that much. The pressure from the mono block would spread it. If you watch the video Linus did showing different methods of applying thermal paste there was the tiniest margin of temps. If I had that kind of time I would do the same test to prove similar results. Thanks for watching

    Jefferson my ASUS Maximus X Hero a few weeks ago had the same error code 00, it was the CPU, an i7 8700K. Because it was under warrantee I took it to the store where I purchased it from, who also checked it on one of their test rigs and they replaced it for a new CPU because they confirmed it was dead. SO, because you have checked everything else but the CPU, I would say it is the CPU. Tonight my other older rig, which has an ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger has also decided to do the same thing, and for the past week it has given one long beep followed by 4 short beeps during POST. It did this about 2 times at random, but it booted up fine. Until tonight, now I just get 00 with CPU fan running at full speed. SO, either my motherboard is damaged or the i7 7700k is dead.

    I'm currently having similar issues. Went to bed and woke up to my pc power cycling with the board saying 00, tried resetting cmos, messing with the ram, cleaning dust and checking connections but nothing is working. All lights are working, only stays on for a split second and no fans even start to move on it. The fans move on my graphics card when it's plugged into the board (only fans that move other than the psu fan). I noticed if I disconnect the cpu cable it stops power cycling and stays on yet the fans still don't move, would this sound more like a board or cpu issue?

    Hello guys I got the same problem with a Maximus VIII hero and an intel i5 7600k. I purchased a second-handed 1050ti. There was no gpu in operation for a few mounths before. When I connected the 1050ti, the problem came out. Then I started to inspect the RAM, restarted the booting plugged out the psz etc. Well before this problem I had faced with other Mb bugs in my life and it always helped, when I let my pc alone without power for the night, consequently I did the same. I removed the ssd hdd, only left the no.1 slot with 4gb ram, removed the gpu, picked out the battery and pressed clr_cmos. At the morning I switched on the power and let the mb under power till the the evening. I didnt risked anything, this time can be shorter. After these periods I turned on my pc and the mb started to work. Now I connect everything step by step and write if something happens

With all you put into it I would've barrowed a used known good low end £90 CPU to tes. Even a new E5-1620 new was under £240 (back then). Or if you saved to find out later as bits are now cheep. Hopefully you saved it as these X99's hold their resale if ends up good. Even for parts if complete w/ box. Nice build btw.

    ANYONE WITH ASUS X99 CHECK YOUR VCSSA AND VCCIO VOLTAGES ONCE YOUR LOAD XMP PROFILE. Asus boards load ridiculous amounts of vccio/vccsa which can kill your cpu. Also intel warranty is 3 years. Never run your cpu with no heatsink, use some metal object placed ontop if you need to quickly test it.

  • @KefirGrain

    @KefirGrain

    5 жыл бұрын

    Jolinator I completely agree with you and that also goes for Maximus X motherboards, mine does just that. And especially your last statement regarding never boot up without any heatsink on the CPU. I learned the hard way many years ago, when I put my finger onto the CPU without a heatsink to test an old system during boot up... it got that hot in just 1 to 2 seconds that it nearly burnt my finger tip. And that was a good CPU, so it's not as though something was wrong with it, which made it overheat. Imagine today's CPUs!!!! with billions of transistors. It's just not worth taking the risk, even if they do have an auto shut down when the CPU reaches the max temp.
