System 80 - 860 Mk 2

The 860 Mk2 is the successor of the widely respected first recreation of the Jupiter-6 filter by System80 that was named Jove. It offers the same sound and some updated functions compared to the original Jove filter, which is no longer available. The filter brings a lot to the table, is only 10hp wide and can be operated in four modes: 24 dB lowpass, 12 dB lowpass, bandpass, highpass. There are two inputs each for audio and CV and another CV input for controlling the resonance - and the build quality is excellent.
The sound and behavior of the filter is very “Roland” - it feels home in more aggressive lead sounds and the resonance is really wonderful, yet the sound loses a little power in the low-end with more resonance. This is by no means a bad thing; in fact, it can be seen as a very musical behavior - plus, the resonance really blends in nicely with the original signal. And have you heard the highpass filter setting? One of the absolute strengths of this filter!

I am a dinosaur and am pushing 66 years of age. I started out with listening to my big brother and sisters music of the 50s. It was mono. Had a system with a record player and AM radio. Then the Beatles in mono and the invention of FM and stereo. So forth and so on. Now Auro object based surround with 2 layers of height. I first heard synths with ELP, then bumped into Larry Fast with synergy, and eventually Wendy Carlos. Long story short bumped into the Buchla system on a blog and now into modular. I did own an SH 1000 Roland monophonic synth and thought that that was complicated LOL. You guys with the modular units and all the patching, WOW. So many knobs and sliders and pads to remember, and the interaction between each one. But the music and sound coming from these wonderful machines is total bliss to my brain. I love classical and jazz, but fingers and feet can't trigger notes as fast as these modules. And the effects are enough to cause an eargasm. No really I just love modular and appreciate all you Modularnaughts like astronaughts explore and share with us mortals who can't afford the equipment or the time to get to pure nirvana with these toys. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting these instructional vids. You are a teacher of the future of music. Where is the limits?
