XAOC Devices - Belgrad

Музыка

FULL TIMING LINKS/INDEX BELOW
XAOC Devices absolutely killing it with Belgrad. It's a unique approach to the dual filter concept with a great character that's highly influence by input level and the range of interactive controls. You can span the two filters but the sound always goes through both allowing you to create phase style sweeps on top of low passes or dual bands create formant style peaks and troughs. It also makes for a nice dual oscillator when self oscillating, takes to modulation like a trooper and is all round awesome. Go XAOC!
TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS
00:36 Overview
Sound, input level, span, cut off, resonance, balance, modes, audio and CV inputs, attenuators, XM cross modulation, SM self modulation (feedback).
03:07 filter types, sweeps and sounds
Double slope low pass, low pass + band pass, low pass with pass band notch, double notch, low pass + high pass, double band pass, band pass mode, high pass with pass band notch, band pass + high pass, double slope high pass.
10:08 sequence and nodulation
saw wave acid style sequence with a range of CV modulation added to all inputs.
15:32 Audio rate modulation
audio rate modulation of FM/cut off, resonance, balance and span. Vowels, formants and total awesomeness!
19:42 Tito Switch
XM and SM, cross modulation and self modulation. Added drive, character and grit.
22:24 Self oscillation / dual oscillator
Using the self oscillation with high resonance and dual filter core we can span and balance between two self oscillating resonance points for a dual oscillator style set of sines. With the Tito switch we can add cross or self modulation for more character and unique waveshapes and these sines also FM beautifully.
26:44 Modulation and mangling drums
Audio rate modulation, filter sequencing, looping envelopes and LFOs bend and twist a drum beat.

    Another inspiring overview! A quick question... I noticed that the Belgrad's output appeared to be inverted on the Mordax Data compared to the input signal. Is that the Belgrad's doing or something else in the chain? Thx!

  • @pe00000001

    @pe00000001

    Note that it depends in particular response. In general, all analog filters introduce phase shift that depends on frequency. It usually starts from zero at the lowest frequencies, reaches 90 deg at the cutoff point and is 180 degree above the cutoff point. That's where the inversion comes from. Hence, if you combine several responses (like in Belgrad) you have a combined effect of these phase shifts, depending on what mode the cores are in a particular configuration.

  • @laptopolist

    @laptopolist

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the reply. I understand that there will be phase shift, but in this instance the Belgrade signal was 180° out of phase throughout the demo, with offsets from that created by the processing.

    Hey Matt and pe. pe is spot on, there's several points where's there's no inversion. There's lots of modules that actually invert the output without us knowing. For the most part when it's audio we don't realise

    It is not really wobbly when used, it doesn't feel very solid but after a year of heavy use, it's still right in place ;) besides, you're not going to tweak it like crazy while playing because of the "clicks" generated when changing the modes... (unless your music is compatible with clicks of course !)

    Divkid always seems to use a wavetable oscillator for his demos, and i must also admit, i have thought the same before and asked, he used braid in a lot of his videos but this cloud terranium i must say is the business. I just got a Verbos Harmonic oscillator that i'm not loving as much as i thought i might, maybe its time for me to get a digital modules instead of my analog tendancies lol!

    I was going to say in the beginning that this Belgrade demo sounded a bit "cold", but that was the oscillator used. Still a briliant filter and a great video showcasing the module.

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey all, the first sound is a mix of all sorts, some analogue oscillators and some digital. The second bit with the saw wave is the E352. I use wavetables and digital oscillators for demos as they're just super handy sources to have to make things quickly. If I want some sort of DX style FM that's wave folded to make a bass line to then run through a delay I don't want to spend an hour patching that up before turning the camera on for the demo.

    In many demonstrations I've picked up the SEM quality. (which is a synth which employs the state-variable bandpass filter). You'll hear that quality here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i3-Ks8Z9mrLem7g.htmlm34s (specifically at that 1:34 mark if that didn't auto-place you at that spot). Regardless, I have ordered one! Thank you for your video as well. Thumbs up

    Interesting filter, unfortunately some opportunities were given away. For example, it is not understandable why there is not 2x resonance control for the two different filters. This would have made much more possible in terms of sound. Great video as always.
