Syria, Ukraine, the Pacific: What feminist investigations reveal about current militarizations

In this lecture at the University of Auckland, Professor Cynthia Enloe discusses the politics of masculinities and femininities at work in Syria, Ukraine and the Pacific and asks how we can more effectively grapple with the causes and impacts of current militarising developments if we take the diverse lives of women seriously.
She also looks at New Zealand's recent deployment of troops to Iraq and our role in the region's conflicts.
Professor Cynthia Enloe is one of the most prominent thinkers in the field of international relations, and a pioneer in the sub-field of gender, security and international politics.
Her book Bananas, Beaches and Bases: Making Feminist Sense of International Politics, first published in 1989, has been described as "the most significant book in contemporary feminist international politics".
