The importance of a competent router in your home or business environment has never been more pertinent than RIGHT NOW! Finding that sweet spot for your internet access needs of high bandwidth, ease of access, yet secure and multi-layered is a terrifically difficult middle ground to achieve. Alongside this, the less technical savvy user doesn't want to spend their days learning the intricacies of firewalls, port forwarding, encrypted authentication processes and micro-managing the privileges of their client user base. Synology's range of routers first arrived on the scene back in 2015 and in the years since has evolved into a decent range of solutions, all of which have been designed to make the arguably complex and technical subject of router management much, much easier. Still, we ARE talking about a premium/paid router solution when most users can get a free router/basic-modem from their internet service provider (ISP) with their data plan - so in today's review of the Synology WRX560 Router, we need to answer three main questions, 1) How does this router stack against the average free domestic ISP Router, 2) What advantages does this solution provide to the end user that cannot be found elsewhere, and 3) How does the WRX560 compare with other routers in the Synology device lineup right now? Let's take a closer look at this new WiFi 6 and 2.5GbE-equipped router and see if it deserves your data!

I picked up a RT6600ax last summer and am still enthralled with how awesome this device is. I am ready to expand to a mesh but unsure whether to drop an extra 130 euros for a WRX560 and WiFi 6 or saving a bit and picking up a MR2200ac but rolled back to WiFi 5 when out of range of the main RT6600ax. For what I would be doing in the satellite locations, I am sure WiFi 5 or 6 doesn't matter. However, I would be interested in your perspective. Maybe a video discussing pros and cons of setting up Synology Mesh with different routers?

Many thanks for your reviews of the routers, you helped me a lot to choose which router to purchase. I am now a very pleased owner of the RT6600ax. SRM is so easy to use and considerably better than the GUI on my previous Netgear routers. Again, many thanks for your in-depth work in the videos 😀

Does the RT6600ax support b/g/n/a/n/ac/ax like the the WRX560? Noticed some 2.4ghz devices like garmin watches worked better on the old RT2600 I used to have. This is after making sure RT6600ax doesn't downgrade that band in the options.

Do you have AVM (Fritzbox) in UK? If Yes, i like to see a comparison to a Fritzbox 4060. Which is a Tri-Band-System with lower Price.

Wrx560 on Synology website says it uses ddr4 instead of ddr3 ram. Is that correct?

I can't knock the software but Synology have got a way to go before I would consider them for infrastructure, they need to offer switches that can be managed by the router.

Need video based on security comparing intrusion prevention and attacks both from inside and outside for these routers and you can also compare it with Asus routers that come with AiProtection Pro

Can we place an ASUS wireless router behind these two routers and uplink on a gigabit ethernet port from the ASUS to the hard-wired ports on these routers? I want to put 50+ Wifi connected light fixtures onto their own dedicated router.

Can anyone explain the usecase for a single 2.5gb lan port lol? Seems niche. Fast server with multiple clients? Or ok I pay for 2gb wan but dont have the switching capacity to pipe that directly to any clients. Are we entering the era where wifi becomes faster than lan? Is greater then 1gig ethernet just that expensive? I was looking at a $500 Ubiquiti Dream machine that you would want an external switch for if you have 2.5gb or 10gb clients. Not to mention your AP would be limited to gb on that $500 status symbol lol. Thought this Synology would be the better upgrade for me. $200 less, comes with the AP built in... Guess Ill stick with my cheapo TP link until Wifi 7 is a hit and see if these prosumer brands can make something worth splurging on.

I have 2gig internet, so the 2.5 goes to the fiber “modem” which is really a transceiver.

Wifi will not beat a 1Gb LAN connection, the issue is LAN (Wired) is Full duplex (Send and receive at the same time), is not prone to interference while WLAN (WIFI) is Half Duplex, it can send or receive, it cannot do both at the same time. Easiest way to think of this is to imagine using a walkie talkie (push to talk) Vs a phone. Link speeds are different to data speeds due to Network overhead. Which is why you will find LAN switches with 2.5Gbe or 10Gbe ports, but even the RT6600AX only has a single 2.5Gbe port, which isnt an issue for your LAN (you can connect it to a switch with more 2.5Gbe ports) but in the future, if/when we get 2.5Gbe internet/WAN, then you will be stuck with only 1Gb ethernet LAN ports. In testing, ( i have 2 RT6600AX and a pair of MR2200ACs,) with Wifi Mesh between the RT6600AX on the 5.9 band I found that throughput wasnt very good. Due to the nature of the property I am unable to run Cat 5E/8 cable between the rooms (3 floors), so I then used MOCA 2.5 connectors as each room has a redundant run of Coaxial, this is not perfect as its not full duplex, but its faster than I was getting ). This might be worth you covering in a future episode, these are the ones I used and theyre pretty damn good www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08XP8MMFG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I hate the external antennas on the outside of routers these day's because they are completely garbage because they are not detachable. So if any of them break or get damaged in any way, you are literally stuck with having to buy a whole new Wi-Fi router. That's why I go with Wi-Fi routers that have nonbreakable internal antennas, but I'm finding out that Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac/ax routers with nonbreakable internal antennas are becoming impossible to find these day's. The Synology WRX560 is one such Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac/ax router that I bought off Amazon because of its nonbreakable internal antenna design. In fact, Synology WRX560 is the only Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac/ax router I could find that works with my gigabit optic fiber internet that has nonbreakable internal antennas.

theres no real excuse for these devices only having one 2.5Gbit port, especially given that Synology also produce NAS. Naturally you'd choose the 2.5 for your LAN, leaving any direct NAS connection only at 1Gbit. Not very future proof

Waiting in the tech field is the modt pointless idea. U'd literaly be waiting & waiting & waiting. 3080 ti? Wait for the 4080, wait for the 5080. Suddenly ur 75 years old & havent enjoyed 1 game/hardware.
