This is Day 28 of Wifi and fast Broadband Hell for me. I've just deleted a whole paragraph of 'what I've done and tried' but it boils down to what I believe is a software error that gets set automatically when a person makes device changes. It's not quite bricked but it's pretty useless at the same time. So I'll have a look at this router and see if it's available here because I have brick walls and it'd be nice to have full wifi in my office. Actually that's a requirement! Yes. Very tempted!! Let's see if it's available in Australia.

It’s tempting for me. I have the Eero Pro 6 single in my apartment. It’s forgetting devices too often and performance isn’t anything special. I also dislike that you can separate the network bands. This one looks like you can. Your review is great. Another person, the guy from CNET who left names Dong has a really good website on reviewing routers. He gave this a 9 out of 10, which he rarely give out 9’s.

Hey Mark. By connecting the TalkTalk LAN port to the RT 6600 WAN port, you may have double-NATted yourself. In other words, NATting out from the RT6600 and then again through the TT router. This can make it very difficult to support UPnP or other inbound port-mapped connections. It also probably hamstrings performance since you are (a) capped by the TT router WAN port speed and (b) hopping from RT6600 to TT for every packet. Perhaps worth mentioning that you should adjust the TT router configuration to pass-through modem only (if possible). If your TT router is unable to do that, then replacing it with a simple modem (like a DrayTek 130) would simplify and speed up your setup. (Keep up the good work!)

Hello! Is it possible to sync files from the RT6600ax router directly with DS218 Synology Nas through the Internet without PC or MAC? Using the same quickconnect.to login maybe...

Friday afternoon just got very interesting. Looking at a router for our home offices at the moment. It seems to fit our requirements perfectly at a reasonable price point - and NAS capability makes it the perfect candidate.

So funny you should be talking about routers and wi-fi performances today, yesterday i spent the entire afternoon and part of the evening trouble shooting poor wi-fi performance on the Mac Studio; You see my provider rigged me up with one of their Wi-Fi Helix Gateway devices, which is basically a regular 2 band router that gets the provider's signal through a hard wired coaxial cable. My subscription plan is for the highest performance IINTERNET 400 (mbps) package as they call it. Right up until 3 weeks ago the old iMac was set up on the main floor 10 ft away from the Gateway and i would typically get a signal anywhere from around 150 to 350 mbps. But since then i moved my set up to the basement and although the performance dropped a bit i could on average get a 216 mbps signal on the same machine. But when i got the Mac Studio which i installed on the same desk right next to the iMac in the basement, i was shocked to realize just how weak a signal i was getting on the it, anywhere from 34 to 96 mbps, sometimes peaking at 143 mbps or so but often having complete interruptions watching You Tube videos. That's for download, for upload it is far worse struggling to get 4 to 4.7 mbps, last night it even reached an all time low of 0.02 mbps, while the old timer could reach around 45 mbps. Keep in mind theres an 11 year technology gap between the 2 respective wi-fi cards, The old one being capable of 450 mbps maximum, while the new one is rated at 2 Gbps max (I.E. 802.11n vs 802.11 ax max speed charts). I spent hours with Apple support and they had no idea why this was happening. They ultimately referred me to my provider. I spent another 2 1/2 hour on the phone with them with 2 different technicians. They didn't have answers either. But they did help me separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels, using their proprietary app. Because natively with this provider both channels have the same name (not differentiated in any way) allowing the computer to automatically choose the best channel for optimal performance. Since the old iMac was using the 5 ghz channel and had better performance than the Studio i figured i just had to choose the 5GHz channel to improve things, but i couldn't do it going through the O.S. Network settings as i was only seing one channel (the router's name). But even when i had the ability to switch channels. the performance only marginally improved a few mbps. Sometimes the little wi-fi icon appears weak with only 2 bars for the 5 GHz channel but yields better performance and vice-versa, sometimes the 2.4 GHz performs better. I find this troubling, seems to me the wi-fi should perform better on such an expensive computer, it should certainly perform way better than the old iMac that's for sure. Not sure what causes this: Maybe the aluminium casing"s thickness is somehow blocking the signal, or perhaps the heavy cooling system shields the whole computer from getting a strong signal, who knows. I'm not kidding Mark i could do a whole video on this issue and it wouldn't make Apple look to good. Maybe i should... Now about the RT6600ax, its performance seems quite good especially with your greater distance test, but i agree with you the NAS functionality is very very interesting" Great video as always, thank's for sharing.

Yeah, I would already have it if my ISP (att) in the US wasn't such a pain to work with. Reps on the phone don't get me when i say take your modem & router (one box) back, and see if my router and modem will be compatible. So looks like I'm let to rent for 14 USD a month, what a joke these ISP's. Great review and helpful, of course. I'm just jealous I can't set up what I want.

Most other routers with a USB port can create a NAS. The Apple Airports could all do that as well as a printer server. My now unused BT Smart Hub 2 has a USB port on and can be used with a hard drive to create a NAS. The Synology probably does it a lot better though.

@@MarkEllisReviews I probably didn't word by comment probably. I did really like your review, a lot more complete than Linus's. However, I thought the way you worded the NAS part of the review sounded like it was new feature. If I needed a NAS and router, this would be the way I would go as it's more budget friendly than a computer and router separately. However I use a 2012 MacMini as a server which works brilliantly. You could just plug your 6TB drive into your m1 Mac and use file sharing to turn the disk into a Time Machine server. Keep up the great videos. I do enjoy them. I like your honest headphone reviews - how they sound out of the box.

I do not care about backup, i do care about restore. Time machine and a separate hard drive accomplished this quite well. So for daily home and small business use this is very usefull. I would recommend an extra periodic offsite backup if you want your data to be somewhat protected against fires and burglars.
