There have been many "classic" versions of this tune done by many artists over the years (from Shirley Bassey to Tom Jones, and more), but, in my humble opinion, NOTHING comes close to the emotional resonance of Sylvester's version! Astounding and brilliant! It brings tears to my eyes, not only because of the beauty of his voice, but also because it was a such a special time period that will never be repeated.... It didn't matter who you were or what you were, everyone loved Sylvester...!!!

What a gifted artist Sylvester was!!!! It's great that we have all his wonderful recordings to enjoy over and over again! He was, without a doubt, among the best artists during the disco era. RIP.

Absolutely nobody, nobody sings this song the way Sylvester did or even comes close to the sorrowful and soulful way in which he rendered it. And, I've listened to them all. CLASSIC!

@Leenie367 This is by far, the greatest version of this song but also the zenith of all "disco" songs. Things went down hill for disco from this spectacular song onwards. The passion Sylvester brought to the song is perfectly matched by the sinuous dance arrangement. I don't care what type of music you like if you can't find the soul in this version you were born without a heart.

No surprise to Sylvester's great fans, but I'm shocked to learn that such a deep, underground sounding disco record made Billboard's Top 40 in its 7" edit! Wonderful!

@carlosmiller: you're very welcome! i graduated from high school in 1979, so i'm very much a product of that era. i can still recall dancing to an 11+ minute version of this tune -- on a hot and sweaty, jam-packed dance floor -- way back then, at what was a very famous disco in waikiki! it was a wild time for sure...! thank you for the nostalgic trip back...! d.

@ptownfreddy The song was #1 on the disco charts at the time and in 1979, that usually meant a decent showing on Billboard's Hot 100. Very strong sales due to the club airplay. It held its own even with huge songs from artists like Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor being released at the time.

Thank you for the good times Sylvester. You helped me on my way to being the gay man I am today. Whenever I hear your songs I smile, I laugh and I cry because without you and your songs I would not have the memories of great nights with fantastic friends, some of whom I know will be dancing on Heavens dance floor with you. I know that one day I will be there too and I won't need poppers 'cos I will be high on love and happiness when I get there. Thanks Charles for uploading this brilliant song. Take care. Love and Hugs CliveakaSpyda x

I loved this guy; just one hell of a performer. One of the biggest (and probably the most predictable) dance numbers that he did was ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKirr66BaZmYXdI.html ) You Make Me Feel. But what a lot of folks never knew was that at the end of the B side of the album was a gospel-infused reprise: ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/lYemtMWBZpecoKQ.html ) Unbelievable.
