The announcer doesnt know what she is talking about. Syd is always looking very intense at the start before the gun goes off. It's nothing new. I've been watching her since she was 16 when she busted out on the world stage like a shooting star. It makes me nervous watching her stand there before the gun goes off swaying back and forth like that with her focused zoned out look trying to block it all out. Once the gun goes off she is smooth and relaxed as silk. Watching her in that quick sway with that focused expression trying to block out her nerves makes me nervous as hell. If I had to gamble I would guess she follows some type of strict mental routine to block out a bad case of pre race jitters or stage fright. Once the gun goes off she is fine.

Jamaica keep boasting about running PB’s but haven’t broken any records but Syd is clearly running a much tougher race with hurdles and destroying records. Let’s celebrate this champion properly. The best part about Syd’s performances is that she isn’t verbally talking about not getting respected enough by the organizers or complaining about her sponsors. Sydney has a stranglehold on this event. She's had it since H.S. Once she got herself situated professionally her races are now starting to look like her H.S. n college races where no1 is within a country mile of her. When these athletes line up beside her they have to know they r going for 2nd n 3rd place. The same way every1 who lined up along side Michael Johnson in the 400m knew they were running for 2nd n 3rd n the same way the men who lined up alongside Edwin Moses knew what it was. This is not to take anything away from the other athletes in this field because there r some really good/great hurdlers out there but Sydney is head n shoulders above the rest.

@@netia2 for her to challenge the 200 record she would have to drop the 400 hurdles event and strictly concentrate on speed training events. Any event over 200m is the beginning of long distance endurance running which requires both speed and endurance. Sydney will never go for the 200 record as it will no work for her benefits. Believe me when I say she's holding herself back on the 400 hurdles, she could easily hit the 48 mark whenever she wants.

It was very nice to watch McLaughlin run her own race, which I think is something most athletes aim to accomplish. What I found a little off-putting was the cameraman's lingering in her face to disrupt her pre-race focus and the woman commentator's comment about her not smiling into the camera. I've watched this young woman for awhile, and the intense pre-race focus has been consistent. I'm rather surprised more athletes don't do the same.

This was ridiculous. That wasn't a bad field. Sydney is winning these races by absurd margins. You see those sorts of daylight margins over one lap races in high school, not in pro meets. People are talking about the open 400, but Sydney very quickly after focusing on it completely will dominate that event too. Sydney might need to move down to the 200 to remain challenged in her career. What an athlete.
