Sydney McLaughlin: HS Star To World Record Holder

Спорт

Watch more track and field documentaries here: flosports.link/3w1QTSo
When Sydney McLaughlin made the Olympics for Team USA as a sixteen-year-old in 2016, she became the youngest track and field athlete to do so in more than 40 years. The game-changer may become the best 400m hurdler the world has ever seen but right now, she’s very much still a normal teenager-most of the time. McLaughlin gave FloTrack a tour of her New Jersey high school and reflected on her past and future in the sport of track and field in this exclusive documentary.

It’s interesting to hear her talk about Dalilah being so dominant at the 2016 trials and then 2 years later pushing Dalilah to 2 world records. And now 5 years later she beat Dalilah at trials and set a new WR herself.

Genuine Superstar. Her last leg in the 4x4 just blew any chance Jamaica had out of the stadium. A lot of the American mens team should take a good look at her and how to conduct themselves. This woman could be anything if she stays injury free, hope she does so we can see her talent for the next decade. I will repeat it, " Genuine Superstar ".🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

For everyone mentioning her age, she was born August 7, 1999 making her 21 as of this upload date. However, this documentary was originally posted in May of 2017, making her 17 at the absolute oldest at the time. So yes, she was still in high school and this was her everyday life at the time of filming. “But right now, she’s very much still a teenager-most of the time.” Even the caption was copy/pasted of the description from when this came out in 2017.

I'm very impressed with Sydney, both athletically and as a person, especially when she said what her parents told her about being careful with what she says in public and dealing with those who approach her about her track exploits and celebrity status, just living with the fame and its inconveniences. My hope for her is to not only succeed in Tokyo at the Olympics, but, also, to not fall into temptation like other young athletes (illegal drugs to enhance performance, fall out of line with her regimen and slack off, etc.). Just be the best person God made you to be, follow your heart, and achieve your goals. Make your family proud, and your country proud. I think she's on her way.

Dear Sydney, Congrats on your World Record Breaking Run in US Olympics Trials. I wish to share my observation on you clearing the hurdles over the 2nd 100meters. Check your footing and clearing all the hurdles with your same leg will give you a much improved time in Tokyo, since you are aware now there is someone close behind your heels. All the Best to you. Raymond Malaysia

Sidney is mature well beyond her years. I hope she keeps moving forward but at the same time keeps that youthful, beautifully strong personality. Many young girls will be looking up to her and will want to follow in her footsteps. May she be the best not only on the track but also in this competition we call life.
