I can't believe that you are actually 20. Your knowledge on photography and your really awesome photos make you seem much older in a good way. I am currently 20 years old and just ventured into film photography. Your videos definitely helped me get started and motivated me to go out and shoot. Hope to be as good as you one day!
I’m 45 and I think you’re doing an excellent job at your age. Wish I was more focus like you at that age.

Cafe du monde I’m also 45, and was thinking the same thing! When I was 20, I was into photography, but I definitely didn’t spend the time and energy to get good at it until I was a lot older. I was too busy being a 90s slacker I guess.

shannon palmer i do think the internet has a lot to do with how so many younger people are so motivated. Slackers still exist but the ability to share and consume creative so quickly and globally is a big factor. Imagine if everyone had the internet in the 80s.
What I really like about you is that you come off as super chill and approachable in your videos. You seem to be very passionate about photography without being pretentious about it.
It'd be great to see some digital stuff on your channel too. I think a lot of people find it easy to attribute your beautiful images with the gear you use to shoot them and the more you use other mediums (35mm, digital, etc) the more you tear down that misconception. Congrats on 100k! Really excited to see what's to come ✨💛

Best photography channel on KZread. You've inspired me to move away from portrait photography, as well as moving away from the films I learned to shoot on to expand my comfort zone. I look forward to your videos every time they post.

Photography is largely subjective. I like Willem's control and understanding of color but I find his subject matter (mundane, but colorful and evocative scenes in suburbia) uninteresting and overly reliant on being evocative rather than being compositionally striking/interesting (it's a trend that has spread across a lot of film shooters on the internet to varying degrees). While most of the famous KZread film shooters (eg. Verbeeck, NegFeedback, Matt Day, etc.) are following this trend, I still really love their content and learn a lot even though their particular style and brand of photography doesn't interest me much.

Love your answer about making money off photography!! For a while I felt so much pressure to try to find clients for the same kinds of portraits and it really took the enjoyment out of it completely. I’ve been working on projects just for me and it’s made me fall in love with photography again. People have this idea that if you have something you’re good at you HAVE to monetize it and that’s just not really how it has to be.
You and Linus have given me sooo much information about film photography. I really can't think you enough.
The right video to start my Friday! I totally agree with you about the major part that colours have in a picture, especially when you could have a lot of different shades depending on the film you shoot with.
I started with film, jumped into digital when it hit the market, and then went back to film. I have a D800 and a G7X Mark III which I use for video, but don't like how they look when shooting photos. I do love the X-Pro 2, which I got after using an X-Pro 1 for a couple years. When I was using the X-Pro 1, there were a few things which I wished it had, and I was quite pleasantly surprised with Fuji put those on the X-Pro 2. I will probably never convert fully to digital, believe it or not, I like locking myself up in the toilet to load my reels and developing tanks, I love setting the egg timer, and agitating every 45 seconds, and I love to see wet negatives with new images on them. However, my wife hates the smell of fixer, and rust stains in the sink.
I’m about to turn 32 and I’m perfectly fine with learning from someone who is about 10 years younger than me. Age doesn’t equal maturity and that goes both ways. You seem really mature as a photographer and it’s definitely possible to be extremely good at something at age 20. Will you mature in some ways over the next 10 years? Yeah. But that doesn’t mean that the work of your early 20s isn’t brilliant as it is. Keep it up man.
absolutely loving your videos.... thanks for the time you put into these.
I've recently started shooting 35mm and I can't get the same satisfaction and special look out of shooting digital anymore.
Be proud of your age. You have such an amazing body of work at 20 and still have the time and energy to keep it going as long as you want it. Not an issue at all. Congratulations.
I’m 21 and you’re already so much further along and better than I am! Love all you work and excited to see the things coming up! You’re a bit inspiration to me, keep the great things coming 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Fuji cameras are awesome. That 35mm f/2 is stellar for the price too. Great stuff, man!
Shoot the Fuji on 1600 iso and lift the shadows and compress the highlights in camera. Most film like settings you can get on any digital camera.

What do you mean in camera? Can you change these settings in camera?
@MartijnBaudoin
4 жыл бұрын
@@atidiaX Yes, they only apply to the jpg of course. in the quick menu there are settings so you can influence shadows (-2, -1, 0, +1 and +2) the same for highlights and color (I didn't even mention that) . I read manuals ;-)

I'm trying this on my Fuji but I'm a bit confused by your terminology. What exactly do you mean by 'lift' and 'compress'? Do you mean Highlights (+2), Shadows (-2) or Highlights (-2), Shadows (+2)?

To the person who was asking about how he gets photos to look SOFT: Willem did an earlier gear haul video where he talked about using Tiffen Black ProMist filters (1/8 and 1/4) that offer a nice softening to photos.

Hi Willem, it would be cool to see a bit of your (digital) editing proves in your upcoming x-pro video :)

Weird question, especially 2 years later - How much did you get the x-pro 2 for, and if you still have it how has the camera been long term. I'm interesteded in going for one, but still undecided between that and the x-pro 1

Thanks for turning me on to the Fuji. I’ve been shooting film for a while but after somehow not knowing this for ages, I found out the other day that film contains Gelatin. That being the case, I’ve been lamenting the fact that I won’t be shooting for some time, but seeing your shots on digital has pushed me past my bias against digital. Always loved your videos
Very good work willem, greetings from Colombia !!
20 years! That's the age of my son \o/ I am so glad you guy have time and ressources to do what you do. I love your work. Please publish more zines. Iwant to buy and support your work :-)
Totally agree about letting the lab scan your work. I worked at a pro photo lab 10 years ago. They have great equipment and people that know how to use it. Seriously, the people look at color all day and can tell when there is a color cast or something is off. I have a dedicated 35mm scanner at home and the only type of work I can match to what the lab gives me is black and white film. Color, no way. Plus like you said it frees up time. Lots of people seriously don't realize that scanning (like printing) is almost a art in it's own.
Those dark photos were great. My personal preference (doesn't invalidate yours!) is actually for darker night photos where the black is black, so these really spoke to me.
Love the Fuji x-pro 2!

Willem, Very much like your approach to your work. I've shot with the fuji x series for a while now with old manuel focus lens for effects and it's worked out well, mind you, I've been shooting for 50 years and still shoot commercially out here in San Francisco. Stay true to your work it will nourish you when little else will. Cheers

Oh, man. I'm 21 and just about 2 months ago y bought a Miranda Sensomat RE, and I'm just starting my way into photography. I really like your videos, they make me wanna shoot more and more. Greetings from Mexico.
@randallstewart175
4 жыл бұрын
Miranda is not a camera brand most beginners would use, but it is a goof choice. The lenses and accessories remain largely available. The lenses are quite good. The general lack of demand makes all things Miranda very inexpensive. The only downside in my experience is the use of banned mercury cells for the meters (which can be worked around) and that the built-in meters are often dead. Beware the model G; it was a clever design but flawed - the reflex mirror commonly jams during operation.
Please, Willem, do a video about shooting with the Fuji Xpro-2! That would be very interesting to see.
Fuji is amazing I have one in my bag and a 120 in my bag it's a perfect combo
