    I upgraded my x-pro2 to x-t3 over a year ago, because the lack of tilt screen and the viewfinder was hard to see in bright days... And the iso-dial was quite annoying too. But have to say that x-pro2 was more fun to shoot with than the x-t3 is. That's the reason I recently got a used X100V and it's absolutely brilliant! Tilt screen, iso-dial fixed and the evf/ovf is ok. And the most important thing: It's fun to shoot with.

    I sold my X-T1 and got a X-Pro2 in 2016. I prefer that the viewfinder is on the left side like it is on the X-Pro2, because then my nose won’t get pressed onto the lcd-screen 😂 Four years later I’m still using the X-Pro2 like every week. I’m very happy with it and I’m likely going to use it for another 2-4 years. For a X-Pro4 I wish they make the viewfinder bigger, like a X-T3/4 viewfinder, and put a X100V tilt screen on it.

    Great summary. Like you, my XPro2 is probably my favourite camera ever despite its quirks, and I was all prepared to get the XPro3. But after it was released and seeing all the reviews, I just can't justify the new, full price of the camera for the extra 2MP and a handful of changes. I don't deride the back screen on the XPro3, but like you, I've taken many, many photos just holding the camera and positioning it at odd angles and snapping the image. The one thing I really wanted is IBIS - very useful in less than perfect street situations. But as others have commented, I'd love to find out your night shooting techniques to optimize clarity while reducing noise. Your night images look great.

    Fuji was most likely distancing their cameras with the XP3. Before, there were only very small differences between the XT3, X100f, and XP2. Now, all three have their own niche in what type of people will buy them. What you see with the XP3 is exactly what sets it apart from the XT4 and X100V. It's up to the consumer to buy it or not.

    I find most of the people complaining about the screen of the X-PRO3 didn't get the chance to use one for an extended period of time.. If you do street, this camera is perfect ! shooting from the hip with the screen open at 45º angle is brilliant. It is a true street photographer's tool. That's why you have an OVF. It is not meant to be shorted from a screen. If you want to do so get an Xt4 or XS-10. Yes I enjoyed my X-PRO2 I think is a beautiful camera, the image quality, as you said is very good, it has something special in the way it treats the colours, but the X-PRO3 brings you much more in terms of highly refining your jpeg's, Classic Negative film simulation is beautiful and is the closest thing they have created that behaves like a true 35mm film. I also find it has better high Iso capability and crispness and the EVF is much better, brighter and bigger than the old one.

  • @erenjam

    @erenjam

    A lot of it comes down to how you shoot. As you said if you predominantly use the OVF the screen at the back isn't too important. I'm actually thinking of renting a xpro3 in to test it out properly in the near future!

    As the "pro" series it would be wonderful if Fugi would offer "LCD options": a flip out screen for photographers, articulating screen for bloggers. Maybe in the pro4 they will st least due away with the "drop down" screen approach. The flip out or articulation approach would both be more useful.

    Very different style of camera. Some love the X-T series cameras (DSLR-style) and some love the more rangefinder-style ones. I've used both and for me I really like the X-Pro2 because of the different camera shapes (fits into more bags), viewfinder placement, ability to use OVF and so on. But equally many really like the X-T series for stuff like: bigger EVF, better dedicated ISO dial and so on. I wouldn't say one is objectively better than the other so unless you really think you'd enjoy that rangefinder form factor (or the OVF) I'd stick with the X-T series.

    Rationale rationally presented, Eren. Agree about ergo and image IQ. IMO “genre” of why to upgrade or not has more value to viewers when posted close to new gear release date - more than a year ago for Pro-3. Likewise, a “still worth it?” vid lauding a cam that’s only avail used/demo is also a bit of a tease. Agree about rear screen anomaly - thought Fuji’s “big idea” was to emulate old film box label holder on analog cams. Some folks take “film feel” to such a degree they purposely use low capacity SD cards to emulate film frame limits. IBIS is a “must have” for me, so X-Pro not an option (have XT-4). Love your night images; would welcome more night POVs w/pics - hint, hint.😁 Timely YT thumbnail for this post - black mask in keeping w/your “trademark?” black tops.😷 Still waiting for those London fog pics you mentioned in prior post. The only reason I've stuck with Fuji (and my X-Pro-2) is how invested I am in the lens system. I tried the X-Pro-3 and hated it. I've been tolerating the Pro-2 but that is coming to an end. I'm on my third EVF eyepiece gasket because they keep falling of. The diopter is super easy to bump just taking the camera out of the bag. Same for the Exposure Comp. Battery life is the worst of any mirrorless system. And then there's that fiddly overly retro ISO/Shutter Speed dial. Just like the "flip screen" on the Pro-3, what were they thinking? With all that it's still a fun camera to shoot with, but it's only good for street and travel photography or hipsters who like the retro-style. If you have other interests it's just not the system for you. 90% sure I'm moving on.
